If you have the Elsweyr chapter, The Sugar Bowl Suite at Nortern Elsweyr, Rimmen is the most convenient inn room. You can pick it for free on a char who has not yet got any other inn rooms or buy it for few k gold. You can fast travel there for free and wayshrine is just out of door.

Suggest taking few minutes and learn to use boats and carts. Boatswains will get you to most zones for free saving a lot of legwork. (Few zones require questing for access.) It's also possible to port to another player.

Details of the game (skills, armor sets, numbers, etc.) change frequently and drastically. Detailed advice more than a few months old is likely to be obsolete. Guides to content (dungeons, trials, arenas) tend to come out when the content is new, so for that you likely need to look at the old stuff. Otherwise, check dates.

And while we're at it, the single most confusing word in the game is "veteran".
    • Its current main meaning is that it denotes the more difficult mode (as opposed to "normal") for dungeons, arenas and trials.
    • One of its two previous main meanings was that what are now the "2" versions of eight easy dungeons used to be called the "veteran" version.
    • There also used to be a way to level past 50 into "Veteran Ranks" (abbreviated VR).
    • There's always been a minor additional meaning in that "Veteran" is a rank you can achieve if you level up in PvP.

    Don't rush.

You only get a "1st experience" once. Don't waste it.
Eso is a beautiful game, enjoy it.

Take your time. Don't rush to the endgame - or you'll frustrate yourself and others.

And when you think you're ready for veteran content (160cp+ please for max gear)
Please read up on the guides out there so you learn the mehcs before you go in:)

I guess that is about the best advice for someone who enjoys questing - it is and stays fun, if not rushing through the levels. Those rushing to end game content will experience the open world and quests as far too easy . but that is not bad design of the game, but due to not playing an RPG as an RPG, but as an FPS.

This said, if someone wants to play PvP, I would advice to use a different slow paced character for quest content, and grind the PvP guy to level 50 in Dolmens - seems most do it like this, who want a quick access to PvP content. Questing with such a character isn't fun though - for that to enjoy, you need a slow paced adventurer with normal gear .- as in self made.

Remember that this is not an Elder Scrolls game outside of the title. Freedom of choice does not exist. Game performance/bugs/balance aside, attempting to create a character with any form of cohesion by max-level (Regardless of how meta/hardcore you want to be) will require you to grind through weeks/months of mindless or even legit afk content to achieve that goal. And if you DO want explore endgame, expect to be railroaded into 4 specific builds that all utilize the same playstyle, no matter what class you pick.
Also, despite being an MMO, don't expect anyone to actually talk or make friends outside of hardcore endgame content, because there's literally no incentive to do so. In fact, most content in the game becomes even more mindless and boring as you add more people, so most players would rather solo anyway.
Finally, if you enjoy questing and want it to be more than reading a book with some walking in between, you'll have to be sure to deliberately keep your character weak after about level 20 to avoid blowing over story bosses in 2 seconds.

TLDR: Find a different game that's worth your time.

It is exactly like an Elderscrolls game on "normal" difficulty - it was never any challenging on "normal", but a role playing experience - just like ESO is as well. If you play it outside of this difficulty setting, you experience and play a different kind of Elder Scrolls of course, more challenging and combat oriented - but ESO is more like TES games on "normal".

My advice? Figure out WHAT you want out of this game first.

Solo? It's honestly great for solo. Right now it might be the best other than a single player game. Not everything can be solo'd but much can, even veteran dungeons.

Groups and friends? Can do that too, especially with guilds. Some platforms may be better than others, but that could also be "mine is better than yours " rivalry.

PvP? It's doable. It's often buggy but it's doable. Despite it always having issues PvP stays alive throughout the years(and on the forums 😛 )

Crafting? TONS of it. It will take you some time to learn all traits on gear. And while I personally think 9-9 crafters should get more bonuses, it's worth it. Many different styles of gear, weapons, furniture etc. You have to find the "blueprints" to it all first. Hunt them, quest them, steal them, buy them. Which leads to...

Cosmetic? Do you like to decorate houses? Gear? Mounts? It has it. Know that it can get expensive in time and real life cash though. With you being new any lto you missed you'll have to wait awhile(literally years sometimes) to get an outfit/house/mount. Customer service used to help if you've missed it or just started but they've recently changed their policy to not take your money or help customers with LTO, so you wait and buy when they tell you to. So know it's doable but no longer a good game to catch up on if any LTO are your Interest.

Play the markets? That's always a hotbed of discussion. Auction house doesn't exist here and traders are restricted. Many will just join a trading guild or two to sell items. Some don't bother and sell in /zone chat or not at all. Remember this economy is years old. You can do it if you work within the established system(example paying dues, taxes, etc) otherwise it's meh.

Many other bits of advice here I won't delve Into(traits, training mounts etc) I'd just say figure out why you want to play and then see if it's worth it. Everything is doable here, if not always worth it (for me it's being able to solo. I played EQ for years and they hated melee solo. I DONT have to wait to do anything)

    Good luck!

Based on this thread, I would say avoid this forum for awhile. The sodium levels here are a thousand percent higher than the actual population. Unless they're harcore Cyro PvPers then I'll give them that. Cyro PVP is broken during peak hours. At the very least you have to remember that this is the internet where people who want to complain are over represented and yell with the loudest voices. Once you've been playing awhile you can dabble with the forums as you'll be able to tune out the crazy negative bias that is the internet.

There is a metric ton of help available to you via YouTube. Make sure to keep up on your trait research at crafting stations. It takes a long time to complete and you will regret not starting early. You want to focus on the divines, impen, infused, and well fitted for armor. Precise, infused, and sharpened for weapons

Some people will try to buy your crafting materials in chat. They are probably scammers always confront the prices with "tamriel trade center".

Ask an experienced member of your class in your guild for help. Ask if you are ready to do veteran dungeons before starting.

Activate mage, fighter and undaunted skill lines before doing anyting else.

Save your gold and invest first in increasing your bag space and second your mount speed value.

Do all story content in order. Zos want you to start in the most recent dlc zone. Don't do it.

Until level 50 you have a bonus intended to assist new players. Immediatly past level 50 you strangly get... weaker. Don't rush the game leveling.

And last but not last. Fishing in this game directly impact your damage and survival in general. No group will ever accept you if you don't diligently complete your fishing akivements before proceding in the next zone.

New players are expected to be below lv50 / cp160 so their gear drops are disposable anyway. My advice would be to vend white drops, research traits or decon all other sub cp160 gear you don't wear to level crafting skills. ESO+ subbers also could take a habit to harvest nodes one passes by and later refine raw mats to drop tempers which are rather valuable in trade. Collecting good low level gear for levelling alts later is tempting but will cause more inventory management pain than it's worth.

Also if one has ESO+ / bought Dark Brotherhood DLC and is not roleplaying a good char, I'd suggest doing DB as early evil diversion. Shadow Rider passive alone is sufficient reason. Assuming one does not find murdering innocent and not so innocent NPCs disagreeable. Steal every treasure you can and sell to fence, it's significant income for a new player, bounties are low for lowbies and levelling Ledgermain skill early helps to get into art of pickpocketing. Crime does pay in this game.

    1. Legend upgrade weapons only.
    2. Legend jewelry is marginally better than Epic; hence, Epic works just as good as Legendary.
    3. Tamrial One scales your power; Hence, you gain bonuses at lower level than max level in PVP and PVE content can be defeated without constant item upgrades except weapons.
    4. Deconstruct everything your not collecting.
    5. Find a friend to craft Epic glyphs to rapidly learn Enchant.
    6. Collect 1000s of Provisioning mats THAN craft large batches. The inspiration is rewarded at the time of crafting e.g. it doesn't scale downtime same way than doing it in smaller batches over different recipe levels. Its a provision shortcut.
    7. Do daily writs on ALL characters. Earn easy gold but each one has a chance for Epic or Legend upgrades or surveys.
    8. Do learn all Blue motifs and special event motifs on all characters; this improves your reward for doing the daily writs.
    9. Kill sheep for stolen guts etc. to gather bulk items to fence or so; volume gains more Legermaign gains than quality of the item.
    10. Higher Legermaign improves your chance to find Epic and Legendary stolen items.
    11. Starting zones have shops, you can run a circuit to locking merchant boxes that gains stolen items, gold and Legermaign points per locking.
    12. Learn to Light Attack after each attack skill; this is called LA weaving that will improve your damage output.
    13. Learn how to animation cancel via block, dodge roll, LA weave, etc.
    14. Do not buy from guild vendors; always check quest rewards before spending gold there. You can often find zero cost set items by finishing them.
    15. Do daily Undaunted dungeon quests for keys and Transmute stones.
    16. Completing dungeons on veteran difficulty will raise Undaunted faster than normal dungeon runs.
    17. Stacking Health under current mechanics and proc sets will deal good damage and improve your survival playing solo or in BG/Cyrodiil/IC.
    18. Heavy Armor is choice in PVP;
    19. Report toxic players to ESO;
    20. Use Internet Etiquette; don't be a problem or reason why someone leaves the game.
    21. Use any Streamers build videos with a grain assault; they have good knowledge but its up to you to integrate the knowledge into your own play style.
    22. Be mentally prepared when ESO breaks your builds or characters: simply use your wallet to express your disapproval than posting here that often goes ignored.
    23. Know that ESO has many employees trolls on the forums that down scale serious issue points.
    24. Don't join large guilds.
    25. Don't join guilds that don't offer valid benefits to you e.g. paying dues where you don't gain anything that helps you develop your character or builds.
    26. Meet like minded people and join their guild to play together.
    27. Use discord; voice chat is much better than typing when your in dynamic combat situations; plus, you'll feel more part of the guild and within your small group of play together friends.
    28. .....

First, don't read every advice in the forums as if it is the "golden rule." You will see all sorts of advice that range from boycotting ESO to trying to plan for endgame when your lvl 1.

Here's my advice: just do what you feel that fits YOU. You can play whatever class or race you feel like. If you like questing, then take it at your own pace. If you like PvP, then try it out.

If you love Elder Scrolls lore in general, then nothing should discourage or force you from enjoying the game and its content. You don't have to follow a "correct way" to enjoy any game. You are not responsible for other players and their feelings toward this game or their ways of playing. Don't let anything take away your personal enjoyment of playing ESO.

I better say it again - if you like questing, then don't rush leveling. Questing is fun if you aren't strong and have just self-made gear like a young adventurer would. You don't need to grind certain skill lines - they come all naturally, when you regularly upgrade your gear by crafting it yourself, learn the traits from gear you find, enchant your gear yourself.

And when you are level 5 or 6 - look at your fighters and mage guild - you should find crafting teachers there, which enable you to do daily crafting writs - it's your source of income, when done regularly. Craft food, you can buy recipes in any guild store. And you get them as well from crafting writs.

Don't forget to join the fighter's and mages guilds, and if you have DLCs (TG, DB), then become a member of them as well. If you really want to have fun exploring rather than running from waypoint to waypoint, stay away from add-ons. People will tell you, that you need them - but none of them are required - I removed all those I had, because the game became a nightmare, with m eyes glued to the mini-map, running from marker to marker - that was not adventuring, but being enslaved by add-ons.

So, my advice is the DIY path, learning the game by adventuring and doing stuff. If you join a guild, members might offer you to craft gear for you or provide you with special sets - be grateful, but reject it - the danger of not having fun in the game by being overpowered is there, if you like adventuring. You can do it yourself - ah, and join ESO+ - it's worth it for an adventurer.

If, on the other side, you want to be a competitive pvp player - forget about all i said - my suggestion is for people who want to have an immersive experience in a role play world - end game player value normally nothing of that at all - and do what I do in years in a matter of hours or days - mindless grinding, and when they reached end game, it is mindless grinding again.

Follow the main and faction story lines, starting with your faction's story line. This was how the game was originally designed. Dont start with a DLC because you will miss many "easter eggs" that refer to earlier encounters that you have missed by starting with a DLC. The leveling will be quick and you will be lvl 50 before you finish the first story line. Don't rush through it - a lot of effort and thought went into the lore.

Start your researching early and feed your mount daily. Enjoy.
