Solo Mode?

AndlatAndometi
Good day fellow adventurers!

First off, I usually don't post in forums so this is somewhat a first I think.
So the question is, why is there and would it be a good idea to have a "Solo Mode" setting in game which would instance you whenever your approach a worldboss, dark anchor, enter a delve or public dungeon? I know this isn't in the theme of an "MMORPG", but there's a fair amount of people that do play mostly solo (as do I on one character). And whenever I do play solo I find it rather annoying when you're on your own and then one person shows up and another and so on. Though I am aware that this might cause some issues with the servers (you never know), and there is potential for botting since people can just go somewhere on their own and farm stuff with no-one to report them, but then again whats the point in botting in eso?
This might also be "healthier" for newer players, so upon entering a delve there won't be a cp 810 rushing through it (kinda ruins the fun).
Anyway there's probably a lot more to say, but I'll leave that to the discussion.
Just to clarify: This is a mode you can switch on and off, not a permanent thing.
(If it's a bad idea, just say it's a bad idea 99.74% of the ideas I have are bad ideas)

I like the social experience of an mmo, even if some others don't understand it.

But the key aspect of things like world bosses is that you should dynamically meet people at them from time to time and join in.

It would definitely make farming overland sets a lot easier. But not a major issue I think. It's also worth noting that a cp160 well geared player can solo most of these bosses easily. There are some exceptions that are tricker though.

A solo mode that would create unique instances for individual players would significantly increase the ammount of hardware required to run the game, hence increase the cost to run the game. The increase would not be small as the instance would not be just for a dolmen since that is not how the zones are designed.

Being it would have to encompass an entire zone, a new zone would not have dozens of instances but likely hundreds, if not thousands of players chose to be in a solo instance.

Add to that, Zos does not create additional servers because they want their worlds to feel full of characters I doubt they will design a setup that would allow a player to play alone.

    Everything @idk said.

Solo mode isn't a terrible idea in theory, given how solo friendly the game already is. But the server strain it would create would just plain be too extreme to ever be implemented.

I figured as much, though it made me curious how solo'd instances for quests work (the harborage being the easiest example)
Didn't consider new dlc's being released, so that makes it a pretty obvious no go.

I do get the social aspect, but on EU a big portion of the players don't really speak English, so that doesn't really help much when being social :s (that's a different problem though)
It was more about pushing the limits of one character by itself, on it's own. Not really to have an easier way of grinding.
To see what you can do at what level without cp's and with some crappy gear.

Though @Idk made some good valid points why it would be a pretty bad idea, regarding the heavy lifting the servers will have to do. And if magically somehow they find a way of making it work, the world would feel more empty which is definitely not healthy for the game.

Eitherway, I guess my best bet is playing at odd hours :D

Dolmens can be solo'd. It's a challenge but it's doable, especially since the Dolmens do adjust to your level.

WB, in my opinion, should be World Bosses, and need at least a few players to beat. If they were easy to solo, why would they be called World Bosses ?

You can play 98% of the game solo. If you want 100% maybe don't play an mmorpg.

This would be nice but I can’t see them adding this. Delves should definitely be a solo instance though imo because there’s nothing more annoying than showing up and seeing someone’s already cleared everything out and the boss is dead.

Sorry but whilst I understand what you are saying I have to disagree with you. Yes it is annoying when someone comes along just as you are about to finish soloing a dolmen or world boss and joins in enough to get credit for the kill, but then that is the risk of playing an MMO. It isn't a solo game.

And then again, those players that joined in at the end who may have been passing may not be able to solo wb or dolmen and just got their achievement for the one you were doing. They might not have made your day but you certainly made theirs.

No need for a solo mode really. As a lonewolf stalking things in an MMO world, I practically prefer to engage those world bosses or anything overland contents sololy. Most of the time, I am soloing those world bosses anyways; of course, except during new DLC releases or events that involve world bosses. I don't mind really; whether soloing it or in a company of an army already camping out there during an event.

Instances like the Harborage are very small in comparison to a zone. Even the solo areas that line of quests as well as the Mage and Fighter's guilds quest bring us are very small. In all these cases there are very few players doing these quests.

it is mostly main zones way more populated, there are zones that rarely you can see other players doing your quests. the same way world bosses and dolmens are pretty much solo there, but still somehow as group difficulty - this is the place for testing character's capability.

entering dungeon (not delve) you play it solo even if it is 4 man dungeon but also difficulty in it is for 4 people (character has to be way more progressed) and after that comes also soloing vet dungeons to test your limits  .

as game difficulty is more casual, after progressing your character and finding your build most of the game becomes soloable.
