The game is having hdr problems again. Sometimes i log in and i dont have hdr enabled so i am forced to relog to enable it and that’s aside from having to relog if the game crashes.

I've been having this issue for about 4 weeks now.... Start playing and the colour/contrast and brightness saturation is terrible.
The only way I can prevent it is if I clear all saved data before playing...
    Its annoying!

Yeah its pretty annoying and i realized it because it happened when i was switching between crafters could tell the difference. And to prove that it wasnt using hdr i press the info button on my remote from my tv and it tells me if hdr is being used or not and it was off. Then when i opened the game back up it would be on.

Huh? This is news to me. Do you only play ESO? I’ve been playing multiple games in HDR since day one on my PS5 (not ESO, thanks to its unplayable state), and it’s not drab at all. Do you have an HDR-compatible TV?

HDR definitely works on PS5, it's actually active in the menus, unlike on PS4, so you don't see a shift when you enter the game like you used to. If anything I'd say that HDR color actually has more pop on my PS5 than my PS4 Pro. Blackreach caverns look amazing.
Also have been playing Division 2 where that improvement is very noticeable.

Same, HDR is amazing on my PS5. Currently about to finish Spider-Man: Miles Morales and my jaw has literally dropped multiple times while playing the game due to how utterly gorgeous the HDR colours are. I’m guessing it’s @LadyLethalla ’s TV. I’ve got a Sony X800H which isn’t even a great TV for HDR gaming compared to QLED and OLED sets, and it still looks stunning coming from an old 1080p TV.

I play on a Samsung Q95T QLED. Sometimes the game looks amazing, other times its terrible and too dark - Actually Nvidia have released a new driver 460.97 today to fix HDR issues so that might help. Then you shouldn’t be any having issues with HDR on your PS5 whatsoever. You have a great TV: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900e

Are you sure you have HDR enabled, both on your PS5 as well as your TV? Have you tried using a standard HDMI 2.0 cable, and not the HDMI 2.1 that came with your PS5? Have you tried games other than ESO? You should have noticed an improvement over your old PS4/PS4 Pro, and if you don’t, that’s worth investigating.

I'm using the non Sony, gold plated HDMI cable that I used with my PS4 Pro. Only other game I've played is Immortals Fenyx Rising and with that one my TV screen keeps annoyingly flicking on and off but the colours are vibrant, so...
When I play ESO the PS5 settings say "HDR is not supported on this device"; I haven't checked it while playing the other game.

Then that is most likely an issue with your TV settings, @LadyLethalla . Try this: https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/7bbv1w/psa_sony_4k_hdr_owners_enable_enhanced_hdmi

It’s an older post, but I’ve seen other PS5 users reporting that after they manually enabled enhanced mode on the HDMI port connected to their PS5, their HDR issues were resolved. If that doesn’t work, there are other suggestions here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2020/11/27/ps5-not-playing-4k-hdr-properly-here-are-7-things-to-try/

You should 100% be getting beautiful HDR with your TV. If you’ve tried everything and still aren’t getting HDR, then you might have a faulty console. I don’t have any flickering on any game I play, and HDR is always on.

Edit: Also, test with Astro’s Playroom (you get it for free with the PS5). I know for a fact that you should be getting beautiful HDR colours with that game. Also, Astro’s Playroom is an utter joy, a must-play for any PlayStation fan, and you’re missing out if you don’t play it.

Edit 2: Furthermore, make sure you’re in game mode and that you’ve got the right HDR mode enabled. On my TV, the best option is Auto or HDR10. When I set HDR to different modes (or, of course, when I turn it off altogether), the image becomes washed out, which is most noticeable in reds.

@Aurielle thanks for your assistance but it didn't work. :( I ran through every setting on the TV and changed to everything recommended, as well as changing over the HDMI cable to the one in the PS5 box but I still get the message "The resolution is set to 1080P because the connected HDMI device doesn't support 2160p/HDR".

From a 2nd article linked at the bottom of the Forbes piece, "It seems that with all affected systems the ‘Color Format’ section says YUV420, whereas with systems that work fine with 4K HDR from the PS5, the Color Format sections of the video info screen says YUV422 (HDR) for people with TVs that carry HDMI 2.0 ports, or RGB (HDR) for people whose TVs carry wide bandwidth HDMIs that support v2.1 features."

-> my PS5 shows the Colour format as YUV420.

So... having failed to find anything else useful I think I probably need to call Sony.

That sucks, @LadyLethalla . The only other thing I can suggest is to make sure you’ve tried every HDMI port on the TV (on older models, only certain ports are for HDMI 2.0), and that you aren’t connecting through any audio receivers (i.e. hook the PS5 up directly to the TV). Some people who were only getting YUV420 HDR resolved the issue when they connected the system directly to their TVs and not through their soundbars: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/jtzpak/hdr_not_working_in_yuv420_4k_video_format_2/

Edit: Regarding HDMI ports, I looked at rtings’ review of your TV again and you should be using input 2 or 3.
“This TV supports all of the common input signals. Only HDMI inputs 2 and 3 are capable of showing 4k @ 60 Hz @ 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 color, and only when 'HDMI Enhanced Format' is enabled. 4:4:4 color is supported in both game and graphics mode.”

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900e

Also, make absolutely sure that you’re in game mode and don’t have any cinematic colour settings turned on. Your HDR options will change sometimes depending on what picture mode or colour mode is enabled. On my Sony TV, game mode and “Standard” or “warm” colour settings give the full range of HDR options, Ideally, both your TV and your PS5 should be set to “auto” for the HDR mode if your TV supports that, so that it will automatically select the best HDR mode.

But if all else fails, yes, call Sony. I don’t doubt at all that ESO’s HDR could be acting up as per the OP’s complaint, but your issue definitely sounds like a TV settings issue, especially since your PS5 is telling you that it’s outputting 1080p. It’s likely not your PS5, but that also is a remote possibility if everything’s good on the TV setup end of things.

@Aurielle no I don't have a soundbar and yes my TV is on Game mode etc. I think it's connected on HDMI port 4 so I'll look at that later.
    Thanks; appreciate your efforts :)

No problem, I hope you can get it sorted! It would be horrible to be one of the lucky few who has a PS5 and not be able to play games in glorious 4K HDR 60 FPS.

@Aurielle I couldn't believe it when - after changing the HDMI port to 3 - the PS5 went into HDR setup when I turned it on tonight. Glorious colour!
Thank you SO much, really appreciate the time & effort you put into your responses. <3
