Possibility of returning character (some spoilers from original main quest)

We've had Lyris and Sal return with recent years expansions who are possible sacrifices. What do you think the chances are of the next one having the return of Varen?

I'd prefer Abnur and I think he is a more possible option. Prophet is too tightly tied to the Planemeld story.

From the dialogue with Nahfahlaar in the end, bolding is mine:

Player: And Abnur Tharn? Did he escape the destruction of the island, too?
Dragon: I do not know. The battlemage was weak, exhausted, but he refused to give up. He wanted to save you. Save this land. I lent him enough of my power to accomplish that task.

That's not a "no" or "it wouldn't be possible". And we had quite a lot happy reunions in this game. Including totally dead people. So I'd gladly take some uninspired "I just opened a portal the last moment" explanation. I have more hope for him than for Darien, tbh.

Btw, that got me thinking. With all the magic we have there definitely should be the way to find out if someone is dead or alive, no?

At this point, anything is possible. If they want him to come back, he'll find a way.

With the current team's disdain for established lore and story continuity, anything's possible. And if it really is Skingrad / Colovia, then either Aquilarious or Tharn would be likely candidates to help sell new content.

Also, Lyris said she was going to Skingrad, so we might see her again, too. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a reunion of all five companions, Mannimarco included. Heck, since The Worm King and Molag Bal are no longer buds (and since half of us released him anyway), there's a good chance he's now working with one of Bal's rivals...... Dagon.
