RESOLVED: What is up with all these new trading guilds? Very shady business

So I dont stay long in guilds cos sooner or later I get suspicious of their strange goings ons or weird shannanigans..Let me explain...

Very New trading guilds with trader already in place but when you look at its new recruits there are not many to support s trader epecially since most are low level players. Some dont even care if you sell or not...im confused how they operate , yes they may have a couple of investors but what is the driving force behind the guild?

I imagine the eso trading guild platform to be something like this: a giant octopus whose large gigantic bloated body is the big Mega or monolithic guilds, top bidders, traders, movers and shakers lol
Then all the smaller trading guilds are its tentacles only this octopus has a zillion of them growing each day.....

Are these new smaller trading guilds just tiny mutatious tentacles of the gigantious body of mafia octipus head? I'm kinda having nightmares about how all this works....there is something deeper or rather something sinister lurking in the deep....its shady for sure. Sometimes when i join a new guild it's like deja vu...I swear those people were in other new guilds i left.....

Any light shed on this topic would be appreciated

And for those that will tell me to put my foily hat back on...." I am not paranoid, just scared of the giant octopus"

    i don't know and i don't care, tbh.
    something something gold selling, probably.
i'd be curious, though, to know what exactly is happening.
    any whistleblowers?))

For me asking recommendations for a friendly trade guild from my non-trader-guild guidies, applying to one, listing my *** priced to sell and asking for advice in guild chat when I need it worked fine. The one picked has a weekly fee (small even for casual me) but also trader in a popular spot and helpul members. I've had no symptoms of acute paranoia yet.

Try to find a guild that suits you instead of applying randomly.

I once joined a random guild just because i was asked to. Nice enough guy as the guild leader but no action except he felt compelled to fill the chat box every day with a play-by-play account of everything he was doing in game at the moment.

I don't join random guilds any longer.

Not all are tentacles or part of a conspirancy. Three of us were officers in a larger trading guild and left (for reasons not assosciated in any way with our current guild). We made a small social guild, first rule fun...we wanted to enjoy the game again.

Some people from the old guild joined us later and we recruited new players to the game, vets who just wanted a place to chill, etc.. We wanted to offer a place where everyone felt valued and welcome. Some months later we are over 250 members ( a lot of members bringing friends of theirs into the fold and some recruiting). We now offer learning trial runs, dungeons both vet and learning, pvp night with our "Paws" team, we have a yard sale, auction and raffle by member request, do random free giveaways. One of the officers loves to help people with dps and gear, another loves to help people learn to make gold, others like to run fun events, and some event/competitions with valuable prizes. We always wanted to offer a "full service" guild to those left out of all the others and we are doing it!

We asked our members if they would like a small trader somewhere, not a promise weekly, but one that the guild as a whole could afford WHEN we could afford it. No mins, no dues, nothing required except a positive helpful atttitude toward other members of the family.

So, it may be rare, but there are people out there who aren't part of the conspiracy, who aren't elistist or power hungry and are honest people who just want to have fun and help others do the same.

    No, let me explain.

Every suspicion and moment of paranoia you've ever experienced is justified, and those behind it all are aliens.

I don’t know how you could see a conspiracy in that — I mean, to posit a conspiracy theory wouldn’t you need to have a plausible purpose or motivation? Traders cost a LOT of gold and there is no benefit to having one if sales are inadequate.

Now people might branch off from a full major trading guild to start a new chapter as it were and so I could see them having the financial backing to get a trader right off — probably a calculated loss because having a good trader is a reason for people to join the guild but it seems like it would be unlikely to pay for itself early on.

I feel I'm qualified to answer this question as the leader of a social guild who has maintained a trader for the last year or so with less than 100 active players...

Trader bids are indeed expensive as heck. Some locations aren't though and can easily be won by less than a million. I'm part of two large trading guilds where I make the most of my money flipping things, even going as far as to buy cheaper things from my own guild members on our store and listing them in one of the big places to make a 10% profit or so. This combined with 18 writ characters leads me to making a few million gold per week and if need be this is enough to dump on a trader bid and win. More often than not, other officers help me and other people from the guild chip in which means that we get to spend some serious gold on better places and can have a high selling week now and then. Anyone looking at our roster would wonder how we pay for it, but all it takes it a few generous members. If I weren't buying anything else though I could definitely pay for it myself every week.

I'm pretty sure he is a FB friend of mine also. Feels compelled to post everything he is doing all day. Hey look I'm taking a door off of a shed, hey look I just went to the bathroom!

My main guild is a small-ish social guild and we try to get a trader every week but as of late, we're having trouble getting anything for less than 1 million, even if it is way out in the boonies.

A social guild I am in has managed to get a trader the past two weeks. The first week I'm guessing our inventory was a bit lacking as I had close to 60% of the total sales for the week. This 2nd week looks like overall we are going to sell a lot more. Part of the reason behind the social guild not having a great inventory is their members interested in trading are in a trade guild. Their higher end items tend to go to that guild. The social guilds get the mid to low worth items and even then it takes a couple of weeks before players think it worth the effort to put those items in.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

The top 20 or so trade guilds in PC EU are all directly controlled (he is the GM of 5 big ones) or at least heavily influenced by one single player. I don't know if I can publicly name the guy, but if you play PC EU chances are you know who I'm talking about.

Yes ...reason why i explained that there are guilds i joined that said thei did not care about their members making sales which i found very strange for a new trading guild.

I made the octupus analogy to make my post a bit more fun ...some people understood that...thank you so much. You explained it perfectly and you didnt judge me, you understood exactly what i was saying. I can't thank you enough!!! 😊😊😊

Hopefully one day making gold via trading vendor will not be gated via guilds/other players.
