When should I start spending serious resources on crafting vet gear?

Hey guys,

I'm about to reach veteran and have been hoarding my improvement reagents for now so I can start prepping for endgame content. At what VR should I start making this stuff? 5? 10? I'm wondering when it's worth spending your resources because we're supposed to have VR 11-12 come in with Crag. What are your thoughts?

I think at VR1 is when the gains start slowing down considerably. The difference between each veteran rank is very small. You could probably ride a nice crafted VR1 set all the way to VR10.

i just make a new set of green light armor and staffs for each veteran rank, won't bother with better gear until i hit VR10, might even wait until Craglorn and hitting vr12, depending on how much higher tear improvement items i can find.

In Skyrim, i started working on my character's crafting (smithing, alchemy, enchanting etc) as early as i could.

I am applying the same technique in ESO, i invest in crafting as early as i could. When i finished half of Auridon (Zone 1 AD), i had well over 70 honing stones, pitches etc.....

Now i am in zone 3 (Greenshade) and have so much fine improvement materials that i am upgrading my gear to fine, selling some (making money) and so on.

I would save the blue (superior) and higher harder to get items for improvement for later things you actually want to use (like a full set from a special crafting station for example).

    Green/Fine is where i would stay......for now.
mDKs still need a lot of love!

When you're having trouble doing what you want to (combat-wise) in-game. Equipment is a means-to-an-ends, that is all. Though having it look nice is an added bonus, though I'm sure you don't worry about that too much
If you can be anything, be kind.

Upgrade your weapons to do the most dmg, save them for vr 10. difference between a vr 1 epic weapon and a vr 10 is around 30 dmg.

I made VR2 armour and weapons (mostly purple) because of cosmetics. Now at VR4 I still feel comfortable with that gear and maybe at VR5 I will replace one staff. That's it. If/when I start feeling that I die too often, I will upgrade my gear. Chances are, it will not be needed till VR10.

You can look up how much stats improve here: http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Equipment
The difference even between VR1 white and VR10 legendary greatswords is only 50 damage (110 vs 160)

I'm VR3 right now. I've been crafting a full new set of armor every VR so far, upgrading it all to green since I have way too many honing stones. I've also been crafting new weapons and shield every VR and upgrading those to blue to get slightly better damage. That's probably as invested as I'm going to get until I hit VR10, then I'll consider upgrading some stuff to purple/gold.

Are you guys still seeing some purples drop in random loot for you? I was pretty satisfied with my drops and quest gear pre 50, and from what I'm hearing I can probably make due with that stuff until 10 and then bother to craft there. Does anyone disagree with that evaluation? If so, why?

Note: I am usually healing in dungeons so I haven't felt like weap was terribly important. Agree/disagree?

Once i got the 'non crafted sets' I wanted in Vet version, I then upgraded those as I was not going to replace them.

What rarity level (color) are the Vet level set pieces when they drop ? Do they start at purple or green or what ?

On my way to V4 completing all quests in the V1-V4 areas I did not find a single purple item. Probably bad luck :) As for the quest gear and random green/blue loot, those would be more than enough for leveling. The only reason I crafted my own gear (V2) is cosmetics. The only reason I upgraded it to purple is also cosmetics (darker colours, the blue version was still too pale for my taste). If you don't care about cosmetics as much as I do - do not bother with crafting yet. In dungeons I am a healer as well, I have one green V2 crafted staff with defending traits and I will replace it with something looted if I ever find anything better. Did not feel any need for that yet.

Awesome. Sounds like I'll just hoard my orange/purple mate for raids :)
