Hi all. I'm back since November 5th. I downloaded the Markarth DLC and applied it. That was 9 gig and took about 4 days. But then I got this as I tried to log on.

Error 500. [3:1:1396:0]
Data version does not match the client version.
Please make sure the game is fully up to date.

REPAIR

...begins downloading about 56 gigabytes of game data.

I won't be able to play again for three or four weeks.

After almost a week of downloading, my ESO launcher crashed. I had to run repair again. And I'm having to restart the download again. Last time, I nearly had 40% of it. I missed the last days of the Witches Festival, and now I'm going to miss the Explorer's Celebration, too. I don't know whether I'll be up in time for the New Life Festival.

When the Launcher crashed, it looked for a brief moment that the game would work. I got to the log-on screen from the launcher. But when I typed in my username and password, I got this message once again:

    Error 500. [3:1:1396:0]

This indicates that you may not have your game updated to the latest version of the game. First, make sure that you are launching the game from the launcher and not from the .exe file. If the issue persists, proceed to the following steps:

Why am I receiving Error 500 (3:1:1268:0) "Data version does not match the client version. Please make sure the game is fully up to date"?

I am indeed launching the game from the launcher. I did read the page at the link you provided. The recommended fix for the problem is to run repair in the launcher. I did run repair. Each time that I run repair, a 57 gigabyte download begins.

On the first attempt to download that 57 gig, a software crash terminated the launcher. I'd gotten about 40% of the data block. I had to start over.

On the second attempt to download that 57 gig, the power went off. I'd gotten about 6% of the data block. I had to start over.

The third attempt (involving five straight days of downloading) to download that 57 gig ended when the power went off about 25 minutes ago. I'd gotten about 31% of the data block.

I am currently downloading the batch of updates that were made in the past five days. When that is down, I will again attempt to use the launcher to log on to the game. If I again get an Error 500, then I will again restart the download of that 57 gigabyte block that the ESO software thinks needs repairing. It will take at least another three weeks to get all of that first block of data.

Okay. I did submit a ticket to customer support. I presented my problem as a download issue, downloaded ESO's Game Consultant, ran it, and attached the REPORT file. In the text box for problem explication, I wrote this:

After applying the Markarth update, on/about 2 November 2020, I tried to log on to ESO in order to play the game. From the log-in page, I was shown a box containing the message "ERROR 500. [3:1:1396:0] Data version does not match the client version. Please make sure the game is fully up to date." I looked up, on ESO's website, the prescribed manner to fix this problem, and I read that I should run REPAIR from the launcher. I did so. After "verifying" a large block of data (60+ gigabytes), the launcher began a download of about 57 gigabytes... at an average downloading speed of about 44 kbps, with gusts up to 140 kbps and with lags down to 10 kbps. I expected to wait approximately 15 days for the download to complete. About a week later, on/about 9 November, the launcher abruptly crashed, which might or might not have been due to a minor flickering of the electric power at my house, sufficient to cause the crash, but not lasting quite long enough to force my computer to reboot. I'd had about 40% of that 57 gigabyte data chunk downloaded. I rebooted my computer, ran the launcher, and began another REPAIR. I got about 6% of that same 57 gigabyte data block when the electric power flickered at my house, causing my computer to reboot. I again ran the launcher and began another REPAIR. This time the downloading continued until I had 31% of that same 57 gigabytes, and then, earlier today (17 November 2020), the electric power at my house flickered again, causing my computer to reboot. I again ran the launcher and began another REPAIR. This time, I didn't download anything more than a negligible amount of data before the electric power at my house once again flickered, causing my computer to reboot. I am currently at the beginning of my fifth attempt to repair my ESO game. Given the recent past, I don't expect success. I'm an ESO Plus subscriber, and so far I've lost two weeks' worth of gaming time that I've paid for. Is there any way you can help me restore my game files to a fully updated and playable condition?

I sent that in, and I was given a ticket number.

Yes, I can play PvE parts of the game. But I often have almost a second's worth of lag, which is too much for competitive PvP. So I stay out of Cyrodiil and Imperial City. And sometimes a world boss clobbers me when I'd have been okay without the lag.

Update. I'm still on download attempt #5, and so far I have 21 gig of the total 57 gig. Two more weeks without a power outage, and I'll be back in the game.

    The ticket number is 201117-006112.

I doubt that there is much that Zenimax can do about this problem. West Virginia (USA) has been an area of rinky-***, slip-shod construction for a century or more. When houses are built around here, you have to be careful that your contractor doesn't use wafer-board for roof material or way-too-thin, non-pressure-treated boards for your porch. With regard to the phone lines, some cheapskate contractor mixed aluminum and copper wiring without bothering with any impedance-matching networks. And the local ISP's never give you as much bandwidth as you're paying for.

So I'm amusing myself by reading fantasy novels and by writing stuff in my Mathematical Astronomy group on MeWe. If you want to know how to find the Keplerian elements and changes of velocity for orbital insertion for a non-Hohmann transfer orbit, or if you want to learn how to determine an orbit from four observations of an asteroid, or if you want to find the time-to-fall in a plunge orbit... stuff like that... then you can visit the group at

    https://mewe.com/group/5f577ea4f29b7f6d59ddfd2f

And, presently, the book I am reading is Black Sun Rising, by CS Friedman. It reads a bit like Stoker's Dracula, except it's on another planet, and there are monsters worse than vampires there.

It would be interesting to know if the ZOS launcher is smart enough to cope with files just being dumped in the right place under it (or dumb enough not to notice). In that case you ought to be able to fire up the launcher, start the download, stop the launcher, unzip the content of the game directory posted to you from someone in the 1st world and then fire up the launcher again.

Back in the old days before we got fast internet that's how we used to do a lot of installs, or by taking the laptop somewhere with fast internet because it was quicker to go there than wait for the data to come down the wire.

Too many toons not enough time

Yep. My ticket was closed because I didn't respond. I don't see what I might have said that would have been helpful. The problem was caused, somehow or other, by the Markarth update, which made my client version of ESO different than the data version of ESO. Once that had been done, I was in for a long, long period of downloading ESO's data files. No help from Zenimax is possible at this point.

This has happened before. I forget exactly when it happened, but at some point ESO was updated such that the latest version of Flash that my old computer was able to run was not sufficiently high to continue playing ESO. I think that I had version 11, and version 12 was required. That time, I spent $1500 buying a new computer, which could run Flash 12.x, and THEN I downloaded the entire game to that computer. I uploaded an image to this forum showing a wee little Starship Voyager trying to cross the galaxy in order to get back into Federation space within the lifetime of its crew. It was a metaphor for how long it was taking me to download ESO's data files though my slow connection.

Hm. You know... I'm doubting that this time the failure involved the electric power. It happened while I was asleep, an hour or two ago. When my electricity goes off, a security light that runs on batteries always switches on at the side of my house. That security light is currently OFF. So it probably wasn't a power flicker this time. It was something else. And that something is likely one of those OS updates that, when it's done, reboots your computer whether you're ready or not.

By the way, the exact length of this data segment is 56964.77 MB.

I report the failure of attempt #6 to download the 57 gigabyte data segment through the ESO Launcher. I had downloaded 38% of the data when the failure happened. At 22:45 UTC on 7 December 2020, the electric power flickered at my house. My computer had to reboot. The download was broken.

And so begins attempt #7 at 23:25 UTC on 7 December 2020. Estimated time to completion is 15 days (based on the average download speed of the previous attempt). If all goes well this time, I may be finished with this download on 22 or 23 December 2020.

I edited because the real downloading hadn't started yet. The Launcher was "verifying." And I edited again because I misread my wall clock. I want to start the time when the 57 gig download begins. This time the data segment has a length of 56964.76 MB.

That is a good suggestion. I may be able to buy one on Amazon and have it shipped to me. In fact, I already have a battery backup: my monitor is standing on top of it. However, it is old and today it functions only as a socket multiplier. It doesn't supply current anymore when the power goes out.

I've never had this much bad luck before with downloading ESO. I did the original downloading in 2014, of course. And I had to redownload everything when ESO began requiring Flash 12, and my computer could only run Flash 11. (I had to buy a new computer that time; it cost me $1500.) But the downloading was successful in only a few tries.

Anyway, something odd happened this morning about 8am EST or 13h UTC (approximately, I didn't see exactly when it happened). Overnight, I downloaded the first 2% of the big 57gig file. Something happened to reset the download back to the beginning. The computer didn't crash. The launcher didn't crash. The electricity didn't go out. But I lost the first 2% of the file that I had downloaded during the preceding 13 hours.

So, technically, I suppose you could say that I'm on download attempt #8, even though I can't pinpoint the time at which it began.

Awesome, hope you get that UPS, I'm rather sure it'll save you many times in the future too. ^^b

I'm not entirely sure what you mean with Flash 12? Was there an update that made the Launcher requiring Flash 12? Or do you mean the shift from Direct X 9/10 to Direct X 11? Was that around ESO Update 12 maybe (One Tamriel)? Adobe Flash Player wouldn't require a complete HW upgrade I think, but rest assured it was a good investment.

Edit* What I can think of is perhaps Direct X 12 which is only available in Windows 10 and up,( and might have require a HW upgrade maybe?), but ESO doesn't use DX12. In any case, again, the games you have that do use DX12 will have better performance for the most part with DX12/Win10 anyway, so good there too!

Good luck to you again any way! =D

It happened again! Just now, at 21:10 UTC on 8 Dec 2020, my download progress (8th attempt) hit 2% and then, suddenly, that progress went away and the download restarted from the beginning. I don't know what to do now.

Ah, yes. I had Direct X confused with Flash. Thanks.

After my Launcher, for some unknown reason, discarded the first 2% of the progress that I had made on attempt #8, I rebooted my computer before beginning attempt #9.

Attempt #9 to download 56964.76 MB began at 21:33 UTC on 8 December 2020.

I don't know whether I'll get past the mysterious 2% limit this time, or, assuming that I do, whether my connection will hold up for the required 15 to 19 days for the download to complete. It is possible that these technical difficulties will make it impossible for me to continue playing ESO.

I've been a player since the game started in April 2014, and I've been an ESO Plus member for most of that time. I have the Loyalty Tiger. I have 12 characters championed with >1300 CP. I was in the process of collecting all the crafting stations in Tamriel for one of my houses. I really liked playing Rissa Manyclaws, cleaning out Elden Hollow I and the Vaults of Madness and Crimson Cove solo. And stealing soul gems from that Nord guy in Belkarth.

Rissa was nearly invisible in stealth when she had her sneaky armor sets on. An NPC might see Rissa, or might not, if the NPC walked straight into her. But mostly she never got caught stealing.

    :disappointed:

Try flushing your DNS cache: Open a Command Prompt by pressing Windows key or klick the start button on desktop, select find or search and type Command - it should present you with a hit called Command Prompt so double klick that. In that little command prompt window type:

    ipconfig /flushdns

And hit enter. When it prompts you that the DNS cache has been flushed, close that windows and restart the computer.

Also before you try again, have you checked your Firewall setting if the ESO Launcher and ESO64.EXE are checked to be allowed passage through the firewall?

In Control Panel there's the Windows Firewall, starting it you should have an option for "allow a program or functions to pass through the firewall". You can brows to the ESO Launcher program location ( i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher\Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe) and select the add button when you find the Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe.

Do the same for the ESO64.exe (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client\eso64.exe) and select Add when you find the file.

    Now try it again.

I cross my fingers and toes for you and Rissa! ^^/

(A suggestion could be to clear clear your ESO game directory, but since it seems you are "only" downloading the "mandatory" update I wouldn't do that at this point. If you do that it'll be an even larger download to completely re-install the game. Had you'd have that UPS it could have been an option, but not now.)

Edit: corrected the ip command to ipconfig, ipcfg was wrong.
