What do people expect?

gazzboydeb17_ESO
I truely do not understand all the negative feedback and reviews (Angry Joe the most recent) surrounding this game.
I have been playing the game for 2 weeks, maybe only a couple of hours a day and I'm only level 16, but I am absorbing every detail of this game and loving it!.
I actually like the graphics, MOST of the voice acting the story, the combat.
Does it feel like an Elder Scrolls game? - I think it does
Does it feel like an MMO? - Yes
Are there issues that need addressed? - of course, but I have faith they WILL be addressed.

I am slowly taking my time to enjoy this game. I am in absolutely no hurry to get to level 50 and beyond - it's about the journey, not just the destination.

I know there are so many others that feel the same as me, other than all these reviewers that play the game for a few days and then get upset because it's not a multiplayer Skyrim, which it never was from the start, and was never advertised as such.
What were they expecting? I sure as hell don't know.

Whatever their expectations are, complaining about it not living up to them on the New Player Questions forum is somewhat less than a productive use of time.

I mean for me, if I truly don't enjoy doing something I do the logical thing: stop doing it and walk away

I expect chocolate and coffee. Make it happen.
Every time someone swears, it gets replaced with three asterisks. There's only one three-letter swear word that I know of. I read that in the place of every set of three asterisks. It makes for some amusing sentences.

Different people have different opinion on this game and they are of course entitled to their own. I think for Joe's case is that he maybe putting TESO too high of an expectation.

For example, he described TESO graphic to be 'passable' which to many other mmo players look gorgeous, perhaps due to the graphic mod that he might be using while playing Skyrim, I mean if you ever try ENB graphic mod on Skyrim it does look much better than TESO coupled with tons of addons that enhance your characters.

I do agree that the quests in this game isn't really group friendly; I've grouped up with many people during my course of leveling my character up in TESO and many times I felt kinda surprised when things that have been done by my group mate don't really count on my quest progress...

The imperial race is another thing that imho should have been part of the game instead of having to pay extra to gain access.

The bugs in this game, while some are pretty heavy and almost game breaking are another factor, not to mention the duping exploits but of course these will get fixed soon.

In summary, I am happy that you enjoy TESO. I believe that Zenimax will strive to make TESO better(I don't think Bethesda will let this game fail too) and I can't wait to see it happen :)

TESO Fun-fact 1: It takes to kill 119,050 mudcrabs to reach level 50
TESO Fun-fact 2: There are 61 million items in the game
TESO Fun-fact 3: There are 40,656,000 different weapon variations in the game

I haven't found a recipe for that yet. But since I hit 50 prov in three days by looting everything that wasn't nailed down (and maybe a few things that were <.< ) I am sure I can figure something out.

I like both of these comments! As for me I expected little and got a lot! Thanks ESO for the hard work and putting up with all the grief!

OP...you are right. I think the Game is good also. I keep playing it...that is not the issue.

What than are the issues... it is this:

Unless players point it out publicly, the obvious bugs in the game will maybe not be taken seriously by the Developers. Read: Maybe.

The silent majority never changes anything. Indeed, many of the silent majority might be absolutely disinterested in the game, after all, it is just a game (prove me wrong on on this if you can).

Most of those posting (in my opinion) care enough about the game to say something about it.

There needs to be an outlet (the proverbial sand-sack to hit) for frustrated players. The forums are this Sand-Sack. The Forum-Moderators know this and that is why they are so patient with us.

And yes, the forums also serve as announcement platform for the developers and; yes, sometimes the poster even share some good ideas.

So you see... it is not about what People expect...it is what you expect. From reading your post I understand you are happy with things... Good for you...however, there are people who are not happy. There are people who actually think that things can be done better. I am one of these people and that is why I am posting.

Have a nice day...and have fun with the Game...it is a good one.

Outstanding post! You discribe exectly how you can play and enjoy the game.
I never understood people who's only goal was top level, get everything at once, and if they didn't within a week.....they whine?

I have only played 1 char so far. Started on early access and I am "only" level 22. I RUSH home from work to play. I haven't done that since the Everquest days. (Like 10 years ago).

@gazzboydeb17_ESO - You get an awesome. Your Q&A is exactly what I think also.

@Chirru - agree with you on continuing to post places to improve the game. Players should not remain silent. Of course, being constructive in such comments would go a long way towards making them notable.

As for those players who rush to level... It's a play style. Some of us can't understand it, but I'm sure those players are thinking much the same thing about our play style.

Here here! People expect too much out of the gate from every MMO nowadays because they've all played WoW which has been polished for a decade! I think ESO has one of the richest and most polished launches we've seen from an MMO for quite some time.

For any decent competing MMO to gain a foothold in this market it will need a user base that is dedicated to making it a good game. We continue to see mass purchase of new MMO's and mass departure within 3 months. As a fan base we have a self-defeatingly low patience level. We want a change from WoW but we don't have the patience to let any MMO get there. If you're wanting a WoW polish, balance and quality, it won't come overnight. There aren't any studios out there with $1 billion in revenue, 10 years experience and millions of subscribers as a resouce.

This game is too good already to let it go by the wayside like so many others. If we continue to support ZOS in fixing the bugs and making adjustments to improve the in game experience we'll have an amazing game that will last us for years to come.

not to mention we could use a break from the near monopolistic market share of WoW. A lot of their innovation in that game came from incorporating User Add Ons as standard game features anyway.

I agree completely. I've never understood the appeal into a rush to max level. I want to take my time and enjoy the game. This, coupled by the fact that I only get time to play 3 or 4 nights a week, and I don't want to neglect my single-player games, is why I have yet to crack even level 15 on either of my two characters, even though I started with early access.

I expect the same from games as I do from any purchase I make. That is to get value for my money. I'm still on the fence as to whether ESO is providing that.
