Am I the only person unable to solo elites 5 levels below me?

Heskey

Hi all,

My first character is a Level 17 storm calling sorcerer with a 2H mace and heavy armour. I've just finished Glenumbra and was mopping up the 'Elite' world spawns.

However, is it just me that finds myself regretting engaging solo against a level 12 or 14 elite, promptly finding my backside being handed to me, with no stamina remaining to dodge or run away?

PvP and trash I can take on no problem, but elites several levels below me are a nightmare. Is this normal?

It's normal for me, but I don't know. I've failed to beat Crow Mother with both a Sorc and DK at level 10, but I've seen people in Chat saying they've soloed her at levels 7-8.

Remember its all on the build and tactics. I had a whale of a time with Doshia at level 9 (DK), changed my setup and approach (followed that suggested by fellow players here) and beat her. Good luck.

It happens quite often. I really wish that grouping were allowed in all those forced solo quests.

I was also having a hard time with Crow mother, then I grouped up with someone else and killed it (templar here).

Get silver bolts from the fighter guild skill tree. Great for interrupts and knock back on undead. Its really handy as it uses stamina. In my opinion, you don't want be using all heavy and mace. Some will argue that heavy is fine but a mace uses stamina and you will be spreading yourself too thin at early levels between magicka, stamina and health. I would use a staff until you get the weapon swap and put your points into magicka. Use food to buff your health or magicka but watch out for overcharged skill if you use magicka buff.

The games designed so you can use any weapon on any build but being a jack of all trades, master of none isn't good.

I'm no jack of all trades, the character design is that of a DAoC-style Thane.

I'm a 2H, heavy armoured warrior with a little bit of lightning magic; offensive melee DPS with a magic twist.

It varies. Some bosses are incredibly Over-powered in their damage-outputs.[Ahem, River Edge trio in Malabal Tor needs a nice nerf-hammer] Others are more balanced.

So yeah, hard to say. It really depends on whom you are fighting, because they all have different stats and damage-outputs.

Well I've put most my points into magicka and some into health, none in stamina, use 2 pets, 1 morphed to heal on low health and the other tanks. I'm storm calling for primary damage. I use light armour, 4 pieces and 2 heavy. Am Breton, use Bone armour spell. I also use a staff. I haven't had issue soloing any of those with the exception of 1 that spawns skeletons that she heals, forget her name but its around level 27.

Edit: Forgot to say that my faction is daggerfall.

As a sorcerer who also uses a 2h weapon and plate armor, all I can say is I would have a hard time soloing any of those if that was the only thing at my disposal too.

I do use several pieces of light armor to help with magicka regen in slots less noticable, like light armor pants that look leather, a hood, belt buckle, sometimes shoulders.

However, when soloing world bosses in higher level zones, I weapon swap to my heal staff and have both pets out for damage and occasional tanking, and can then usually solo any of the solo bosses as I heal my pets.

Could it be that I'm following early game tips of wearing a mix of armour, and using a mix of skill-line abilities to increase the XP rate of them? There's not much synergy between my abilities; I've been using:

Crystal Shard (Opener) - Dark Magic
    Charge (Opener) - Two Handed
    Thundering Presence - Storm Calling
Endless Fury (Finisher) - Storm Calling
Unstable Familiar (Pet) - Daedric Summoning

Whilst wearing 5x Heavy, 1x Light, 1x Medium

Should I forget raising as many skills as possible and just focus on what 'works'?

Yep, you can just about forget soloing group dungeons, even if you're twice the level of the dungeon. :D
