Antiquities question

might be a dumb question so forgive me. Does dbl exp this week and exp scrolls count towards scrying and excavation skill lines?

I'm going to say no. "Double XP" refers to XP from killing things, doing writs etc. The "XP" you earn from Scyring and Excavating is it's own class, probably so it's *can't* be doubled.

    You're right, @CaffeinatedMayhem.

Scrying / Excavation level-ups use activities in those skills only.

Antiquities is much less draining if you're always scrying at the maximum level possible. Don't keepo grinding the same blue and green over and over! Go around to different zones, get different things! And once you can scry purples, start doing so!

Judging from the OP's reply, I think they'd like to get the skill level up on multiple characters. Possibly for the treasure chest passive.

However, this is an MMO ... where a grind is baked in at every corner. ;)

I have 4 max level antiquarians, please tell me again how hard the skill line is to level?

If I didn't get leads I would just ignore the whole thing. But when I see that gold level reward expiring and me at level 6. I grind for about 30 mins and barely see the bar move. I just want to smash the keyboard.

At least they could have made it quicker or more interesting. Scrying is super trivial so far with the skill points invested. And I guess gold leads are more difficult but I expect they are just deeper so less turns.

    Certaiy not engaging.

I had a gold lead on PC EU that I happened to see was due to expire in 24 hours, so I decided to grind to level up. It took me a while, but I was finally able to scry the lead just before it expired.

I think I had a lot of gold leads expire on PC NA because I wasn't even trying to kevel up and wasn't paying attention to when leads were going to expire. I finally did level up enough to do gold leads, but I'd already lost all of my gold leads so it didn't do me much good! :)

It would be nice if there were an option to receive notifications when a lead is getting ready to expire, like 48 hours ahead of time, then again 24 hours ahead of time, then again 12 hours ahead of time, or something like that, to help us keep track of which leads we're about to lose if we don't hurry up and scry them. But if so, we should be able to toggle the notifications on and off, as well as choose the number of hours before expiration that we receive them.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

Like fishing, wherever possible antiquities is best leveled casually as you wander around doing other things, rather than pursuing it as a single objective that must be maxed out as quickly as possible.

Where in my reply did I say it was “hard”?

Grinds are often not hard ... they’re just time-consuming. Especially if the intent is to get multiple characters fully maxed.

Go to some small zone like Artaeum and dig up (scry/excavate) green and blue treasure leads until lv5 scrying. Then dig up green, blue and one time purple 5K treasure at each zone until lv7 scrying. Then either grind rings &cet. or just play the game and you get showered with furniture leads, which will get you to lv10. Its not hard. If it gets boring do something else for a while. If your leads expire, you can find em again later.

Yes. However, with this skill line leveling it up on a second character takes more effort as the purple lead in each zone that is gained from doing the basic green and blue is a one time deal.

I leveled it up on a second character and it was a pain.

People feel pressured into grinding it intensely because they get gold leads that expire after a time.

That is the problem. I mean why do they have to expire anyway.

There is an add-on called Display Leads that organizes leads and their expiration dates a lot better than the native UI.

I don't know that it has a notification feature, but it's easy enough to check once a day or so. You can definitely see all the leads you currently have together with their expiration dates all on the same list, and if I remember right, you can sort by soonest expiration date.

Is there any reason to level this on a second character? I thought leads were shared per account?

Many people want the level 7 passive (the seeing chests better one) for lots of characters. And I'm leveling it on nearly everyone not for that passive, but because it's a lot of fun. And money.
