Where can I buy basic recipes?

Ilkuul
Ilkuul
Maybe this is a noob question, but the advice given in the Provisioning writs is to buy unknown recipes from chefs and brewers. But I've been visiting the chef and brewer in Vivec City for several weeks now, and never once have they had any food or drink recipes for sale, never mind the ones I'm looking for. I've only occasionally been able to buy them from the Guild traders, because they seem to specialise in the more exotic/advanced recipes.

Is this a glitch in the game, or is there something I haven't understood?

Yep, just been to the chef and brewer in St Olms, Vivec City, and they have recipes! So it looks like the latest patch did solve the problem.

It's a bug at the moment. I've seen people say they can purchase them on different toons; could always try that and bank it for your provisioner.

Thanks for that suggestion—I'll try it.

What server are you on? If it's PC NA or PC EU, I'd be happy to buy the ones you need for you. Which ones do you need?

Oh wow, that would be great! The two I'm looking for in particular are Baked Potato and Banana Surprise.

Oh wait — sorry, I'm not PC: Mac. EU server. Is that a deal breaker?

Pc and Mac use the same servers. I'm on PC/Mac EU right now, just need to switch to my main to buy those. My @ name is same as here, you can whisper me right now.

Sorry, trying to reply, but I'm not too good with the chat/whisper system, and I seem to have blocked the chat box! Trying to say I'll mail you the gold. Really appreciate that!

Have you mailed them? No new mail yet, but maybe it takes a while.

Yes, I mailed them a few minutes ago when I whispered you. You might need to take a wayshrine or visit the Outlaws Refuge to help speed up mail delivery to your inbox.

Thanks! Got them now. I'm not too familiar yet with how mail, chat, etc. work, and I somehow jammed the chat box so it wouldn't receive any more text! Had to log out and in again.

But thanks a ton for your help. I'm trying to send a reply, but struggling a bit with that too. Do I enter your address as @SeaGtGruff?

Lol, this has been a learning experience on several fronts! Managed to send my in-game reply now.

Again, thanks a lot for your help.

Yeah, mail doesn't necessarily come to your inbox immediately, the game checks for new mail every so many minutes, but you can force it to check by changing zones, which includes going in or out of your player housing, going in or out of an Outlaws Refuge, or traveling from one wayshrine to another in the same zone. Anyway, you're welcome!

@jhodges89b14_ESO - If you're on either of the PC/Mac servers, I'm on right now and can buy them for you, just let me know which recipes and which server. I'm on EU at the moment but can switch to NA easy.

Thanks—that's a very generous offer. I'm hoping today's update will solve the problem of chefs and brewers not having any; but if not, I'll be happy to take you up on it!

That bug is still there - I made a new character yesterday and was quite surprised that neither chefs nor brewers had any food or beverage recipes on offer. Unfortunately those are as well those recipes, I didn't store with my other characters. Well, let's see if it will be better after the patch then.

Honestly spending 1000s on mid-tier provisioning recipes at chef/brewer is a noob trap

Provisioning levels so fast, just buy a few tiers of recipes from guild traders, power it up to 50, then get the level 50 writ recipes from guild traders for a fraction of what they'd cost from chef/brewer

Well, I need those few which are used in writs - I have plenty of the others, but for doing writs, those level specific ones are required- and I didn't keep them with my other characters, because they could be bought at chefs and brewers. It's a bug, because the description and explanation by the crafting teachers still say "can be bought from chefs and brewers".

Whilst your approach is possible, I don't want to do it like that - I prefer a more natural development of my characters instead of grinding. To me the game is everything between level 1 and 50 - so I'm not in a rush to ever get there. And because I'm doing it like that, I need all the writs required in between, not just the master writs.
