Great Dark Stag looks nothing like the picture

Title says it all. I was actually kind of interested in purchasing it by looking at the advertised picture which is a nice blue colour, with bright glowing red eyes

When in fact all it is, is just a regular black Stag with regular non-glowing eyes. What the hell ZoS?

I have to agree; it looks like it has a lot more texture in the picture than I’ve seen on it in game. I presume it’s there but the surface absorbs too much light for most of the texturing to be visible in most circumstances?

That must be its photoshopped social media pic.

Yea that picture is definitely from the website so it's hard to compare it to how it looks in game. The graphic settings the OP has might limit some of they glory displayed by the websites picture. Also, since it is a picture from the site, it is going to look more aesthetically pleasing as it will have been touched up to look as good as possible. Either way, definitely disappointing it doesn't look as good as the OP was hoping, or honestly, as good as it SHOULD look.

If it's anything like Sanguines black goat (and a couple of other pets), the eyes only glow at certain times.

You mean, like in full daylight like the media pic?

I've had this for a long time. The coat does have a blue hue which can be seen better in some lighting conditions than others. The eyes do glow--sort of. They don't emit a halo of light, but they are definitely bright in the dark. It's more like the kind of glow you see on the Hollowjack armor, as a point of reference.

For 4,000 crowns it should damn well look exactly as advertised at all times.

In the advertised picture it is clearly daylight and the mount is still very blue with obvious glowing eyes with a halo.

My settings are maxed so there's no reason for it to look as different as it does.

I'm disappointed at how blatantly obvious the difference actually is compared to the advertised picture.

I'm just going to put this here for reference:

Creating a false or misleading impression
Businesses are not allowed to make statements that are incorrect or likely to create a false impression.

This rule applies to their advertising, their product packaging, and any information provided to you by their staff or online shopping services. It also applies to any statements made by businesses in the media or online, such as testimonials on their websites or social media pages.

For example, businesses cannot make false claims about:

the quality, style, model or history of a product or service <---- (FALLS UNDER THIS CATEGORY)
    whether the goods are new
the sponsorship, performance characteristics, accessories, benefits or use of products and services
the availability of repair facilities or spare parts
the need for the goods or services
any exclusions on the goods and services.
It makes no difference whether the business intended to mislead you or not. If the overall impression left by a business’s advertisement, promotion, quotation, statement or other representation creates a misleading impression in your mind—such as to the price, value or the quality of any goods and services—then the behaviour is likely to breach the law.

If you're mad about buying it then you do know you can preview these things first? I agree things shouldn't be falsely advertised, but you can't complain about wasting 4k crowns when you had the option to see it in action before buying.

I tried using the same favourable conditions to take these screenshots. It's really close, but the eyes are the most obvious - they just don't glow like the marketing image does. The first is using the same source lighting as the marketing image. The second is just a full-on lighting to try to get the fur to match.

My GF has the mount, she has had it for a couple years now. She loves it. I was going to show her this one which looks like a slightly retextured version of hers with the grey/white areas and heavier glow in the eyes.

    Nope...same mount. WOW

Actually, it’s at night, but the exposure time is so great to make visible the details of the stag, that everything else looks like full daylight!

Really nice screenshots! :) I do feel that at the price of 4k Crowns that the shading should be tuned to show form and texture better. Even compared to the elk in the background of the first shot, something just looks... off to me... I was next one of these stags yesterday and it seemed to me super black, reflecting unnaturally little light.

Actually, to me, the most alarming thing is that they're still charging 4k crowns for a really old mount.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to be contrary. I try to offer insight on how a mount performs in the long term when I've had it for a while. Correct, it doesn't look quite like the product photo, and sometimes those photos are touched up waaaay too much. Someone in the art department should do a little less.

I would also like to add that when I bought it aeons back, my expectations were managed by the fact that I had seen it in game before I saw the product picture. I got exactly what I expected. I could imagine the disappointment if you hadn't previewed it or seen it first.

I think you need to run your own Reshade filter over the game to get those effects. When I look at official zos screenshots it always strikes me that they have applied some reshading on the image. I like to do that myself (well liked, been a while now since I tried it actually), but I just dont understand why they dont try to integrate that in the game then, like make it an option for people to enable whatever filters zos is using themselves?

What the heck is wrong with that poor thing's knees? :o If you have foot inverse kinematics on, turn it off! (settings/gameplay) I'm sure it would be much happier standing on a slight incline than having its leg bones twisted every which way to make each hoof flat on whatever surface it's standing on!

Other than that, the eyes sure don't appear to glow at all... but at least they're not smoking or burning like the eyes of some other mounts and pets. Does anyone actually like that?

You could ask for a refund if you feel you were misled and don't want it after buying it.

Bought it because it does not look like the picture... after checking it in-game it looks better in full black. Always preview the items in-game before buying.

Ever since I bought the dwarven spider mount with a gem in the front, I always assume it looks different in pictures. As that gem was supposed to be glowing, and it wasn't glowing in-game(still love it though).

Tbf, is it any different to those food companies that make their food look somewhat edible only to find out in rl that it's a soggy mess?

A prime example of this are the fast food companies. McD's make their burgers look juicy and succulent, with crispy lettuce. What you get is a sorry looking burger and what looks like days old lettuce (not saying it is days old, just looks yuk)

If you don't like what you got and feel that advertising was misleading - ask for refund (try to avoid karening) and learn to preview.
If you don't like the price - don't buy it.

    Simple, yes?

Haha, that's the exact reason I bought it, too! I really liked the full black-out look it had going on. It was an alternative to the Gloom Wolf for my characters to ride around in Cyro.

But, yeah, never go off the marketing images. And manage your expectations. Both - both would be good.

Both are ugly, but the advertised stag is basically an HD(R) upgrade of the end result in game. This is very disappointing especially knowing that they can deliver great looking mounts (in loot boxes).
