Ability to change a characters Class

ClD3638986
Any chance in the future of being able to change a characters Class. We all have a main character we started with in the beginning, one that has all the skills, crafting, achievements, etc; that we wish we could change, such as DK to Templar. Since we can change allicances and races, why cant we change class. And why aren't crafting skills account based instead of character based?

Boy, do you play differently than I do.

Yes, I have a main character that was made in early access; actually she's one of 4 first characters I made. Two of them I decided would be crafters because this was BCB, before the crafting bag, and inventory was an issue. The first character I made was DK. Second was NB. Over time I made other classes, in other factions. Currently I have 18 on this one account.

Each of my characters is a character; not all of them have the same achievements, not all of them are going to get the same achievements. Not all of them are crafters, although all of them can craft for normal writs, for the gold and mats. Some of them will totally ignore dlc like Dark Brotherhood because it doesn't fit them. Of course, I used to play PNP D&D, so maybe I have a different concept of characters as characters, instead of generic account wide everyone can do everything.

If a character wasn't working for me, I deleted them and started over. Just switching everything wouldn't have worked for me.

I don't see why not. I personally wouldn't use it, as each of my characters is their class for a story related reason, but I can see why other players would want this.

The problem with this is that a character working or not working is not solely based on a players desire, but also based on buff/nerf cycles or general game design, not to mention the players tastes may change due to an MMO being a long term game "investment".

For example. My main (the one who has all the crafting motifs and patterns) is a sorc. I love the sorc, but I hate the pets (I did not always feel this way) and what I hate most about the pet is the fact health passives and a heal are tied to having a pet out. This forces the pet to take up a slot on each bar. I am having a hard time building this character the way I want them to play.

But secondly, the pet just gets in the way. This is not something I knew, or considered when I first started playing. But as time goes on I learned how pets in this game do not work as well as lets say they do in world of warcraft.

This is the character I started crafting on, learned motifs on, patterns, etc. But he is moving away from being my "main" because I dont like how the class plays out. But I am forced to play him in order to craft/make gold.

It is EXTREMELY, I mean it would literally cost THOUSANDS of dollars to rebuild a character to the state of a current one if you wanted to switch mains.

We also have to consider the 6 month period it takes to get mounts fully leveled up.

This game is unlike any other MMO I have ever played. In those MMORPGS I would absolutely 100% say NO to a class change, but in ESO it makes a ton of sense.

The other alternative vs having a class change, and IMO the way the game should be designed is to make motifs, patterns etc all account bound meaning any character on that account can craft them IF their crafting is leveled up appropriately. This pacifies the need for players who wish to "class change" because all of the expensive, time consuming stuff is not tied to one character. The mount issue would need to be revisited because frankly having to log in daily for 6 months straight to get your mount all dialed in is a bit overkill.

But I mean overall, I understand why people want class changes in this game. Its because we have sooooooo much invested into our "mains" that there is no option but to play that character.

They have to first allow to change morphs on the fly instead of spending money on a shrine, would make cyclying between pve and pvp a whole lot more easier.

I used to be against this, but since we can change anything else, why not?

The only condition is that if you change your class, you are NEVER allowed to post on the forums anything along the line of "ZOS is nerfing X class to sell class change tokens".

    Do we have a deal?

And crafting skills are character based because it's your character learning them and using skill points.

It'd be nice for sure. Necromancer didn't exist when I started the game with a Sorc. And I would have definitely chosen to main a necro. But the time sunk into my main, for motifs and achievements makes maining a new character a non starter. Sure I have a ton of alts I use to experience differing PVP experiences, but anything beyond PVP is a waste of time on secondary characters.

Now they have alliance change there isn't really a good reason not to add this. But then there also isn't a good reason not to add hair colours to the style parlor but they don't seem to want to do that either! :D

I would be against it if achievements where account wide ... levelling an alt doesn't actually take that long.

However as I have more than 40k achievement points on the only char that I play and would like to experience other classes then either:

    - give us the option to make achievements account wide on character creation (gives players the choice)

    Or

    - give us a class change token

Ah, it's class change and account-wide skills and achievements this week, I'd rather lost count. That means it'll be the turn of the auction house next week and a PvE instance of Cyrodiil the week after.

Sorry OP, but in addition to being wholly opposed to everything you say, I can never take seriously any proposals that are based on the particular circumstances and opinion of one person who claims they apply to everyone. They don't.

I guess this goes back to the "boy, you play much differently than I do" idea.

I make characters because I want to play them; whether they fit the current fotm or bis meta really makes no difference to me.

Before the Craft Bag, I split my crafting between my two mains; one got all the motifs first and did all the smithing/clothing/woodworking, the other got all the recipes first, and did all the provisioning, alchemy, and enchanting. Once the craft bag arrived, the provision/enchant/alchemy alt was retired from being a "main" crafter, and I started the long hunt to get all the recipes for the first main. My crafter(s) are maxed out, so I never have to play them again if I don't want to. I don't understand why you are "forced to play him" in order to craft/make gold. Forced to use him to do the crafting, yes, I get that. Forced to play him in storylines, I don't see at all. My original provisioner/alchemist/enchanter hasn't done any story content past Wrothgar. I'm actually considering deleting her and starting over.

Also not sure where the "THOUSANDS" of dollars comes in, to rebuild a character. It would take time and in-game gold to start over with a new character, yes. Where does the "thousands of dollars" come in? Mats are farmed; gear is farmed; attributes and skills can be reset for in-game gold, so can cp points. In-game gold buys inventory space. In-game gold can be gotten with time invested and no irl money involved.

Yes, it takes time to level your alt's riding skills. It only costs "dollars" if you want to buy the "money for time" crown store stuff. Or the scrolls/lessons show up in daily rewards, whether you need them or not.
