Vateshran Final Boss - Can't be burnt?

I'm just doing this on normal to get a feel for it and the final boss was giving me problems, specifically trying to target those tether idiots through a wall of giant skeletons, so I switched tactics/gear and decided to try and burn her before I got to the first portal stage, because that is also giving me trouble, i.e. pressing X like a lunatic to interact with the portal doesn't always work and I just die in a dribbly pile of ash like a fool. TWICE I've burnt her down - she's literally dead, but she doesn't die, she still goes into the portal phase and then gets her health back rinse and repeat. Also I've come out the portal phase more than once and the tether boys are already there, literally right on top of me and I'm dead. This last attempt the game just froze and dumped me out, so before I put the PC through the window, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Is it the case that you can't skip the glitchy af mechanics? Or am I just a ***? I'm seriously quite sad right now, because there's no way I could deal with this on vet, if the mechs don't even work on normal, I'm telling you now, I'll have a nervous breakdown. At least with VMA I know I'm just not that good, my problem with this is that it just sucks how can she still be going WITH NO HEALTH. Omg sorry.

    the faster you burn the boss the faster they come yes but less ads

    It's set to not be burnt in one go so you need to do the mechanics, idk what's hard to understand about that.

    ...Okay. Here we go. My experience is in vet, so apply what is applicable:

    1) Can you burn through the add phase and get her to 10% or less to activate portal phase? Yes. You'd need to have 50k+ dps consistently and survive the colossi hits--unless you can run in circles quickly to avoid their hits.
    1a) Is it viable to burn her to 10%? No. A shade tether mechanic with 4 colossi + adds up would almost certainly ruin your circling of the area to survive.

    2) The boss fight works like this:
    Phase 1 - Damage boss to 10% or less while dealing with add spawns. Once she gets ready to explode the center, grapple to an island and press X over the portal (you don't need to be frantic about this because you know where her health is at).
    Phase 1.5 - Complete the portal you went to. While you are in the portal, the boss heals her health up to 100%. The moment the mini boss dies, return through another portal (it's in the same direction as the main area on the map) to prevent her from healing anymore. Obviously, the faster you return, the less health she'll regain. (You can target and kill chained colossi in a portal to give yourself an edge when you return, but this is largely foolish.)
    Phase 2 - Repeat Phase 1, except you now have to deal with the mechanic of the portal you went through (Random lightning strikes, minotaur volcano spots, or flame add).

    You do this 3 times (killing the boss 4 times) to win.

    3) I have never experienced the shade tether mechanic while coming out of the portal. That shouldn't happen. She always telegraphs it with "Minions come forth" or "Surrounded by darkness" (or something along those lines). Perhaps you're not hearing or reading this and are getting caught off guard.

    2) Stack the adds if you can and burn them. Drop single target dps for aoe dps.

    3) If you have a problem surviving the flame adds after you kill the fire mini-boss, go blue-green-red portal. If you feel you can take care of flame adds during the fight, then go red-blue-green portal. Red boss is the most difficult to kill and because of that, it's the one that gives the most health back to the boss. It's easier to have a boss with 40% health and 3 mechanics to take care off than 65% health with the 3 mechanics from portal bosses active.

    4) When inside portals, try to stack adds on mini-boss. You wont waste time on adds that way and they will let you focus on mini boss.

    5) Make sure to have strong shields and self-healing.

    Awesome tips, thank you! I didn't realise about the added mini-boss mechanics, I wondered why it was getting more and more chaotic lol. Next time I'll read a guide BEFORE I go in.

    Yes, after you finish a portal mini-boss he drops a mechanic into main boss fight. Flame mages are the most dangerous for me since their spell causes huge damage and you have to bash them (interrupt) every time. If you dont kill them, they become an army. Make sure to leave none of them alive, stack them on boss and other adds and burn them all together.

    You can, but you on top of having 45-50k dps you want some meaty aoe cleave, pick up the hp orbs from red arena and run ring of the pale order.
    Then you can just facetank everything with 30k and over the top self healing without having to use a healing skill.
    I farm the arena on vet and I just ignore the chain and aoe burn everything on top of the boss while pushing her to 10%.
    So definetly doable, but needs a proper setup.
    Again picking up hp orbs from the red arena makes the fight a lot easier.
    And pale order ring also.

    Should also add that lightning staff heavy attack builds just walk thru this boss like it's nothing, since you can heavy attack the boss and your aoe and tri focus passive will take care of the adds for you.

    Regardless pale pale order ring makes the entire arena much easier, and since you don't have to spend time healing/shielding yourself you also gain more dps, even if you sacrafice a 2pc monster set to run the ring.

    You can burn her without ever bother to do the tether mechanic (even without orb buffs). What you need is a good amount of cleave damage. What you do is that at the start of the last boss, you aggro all of the shadow colossuses, and once they´re on the middle together with the boss, you drop whatever AoE ultimate you´ve and make sure it kills the colossuses. After that it´s full focus on the main boss to push her to 10% HP. At that point all other adds on the platform will disappear and you´ll have to go out to the smaller platforms. In there, you try to kill the mini bosses before the main boss is put outside of execute range (25-30% HP). Once you´re done with a miniboss, execute main boss back to 0 and repeat for the remaining minibosses.

    This way you never have to deal with the tether mechanics or any substantial amount of extra adds.

    Thanks so much for all your tips and advice! I'm feeling more confident about it now. The final boss came as a bit of a shock as I pretty much waltzed through the rest of the arena. Up till that point I only died because I spent too long paddling in the lava trying to get the stupid achievement :lol: I'm going back in, wish me luck!
