Let's say I start some PVP

I'm level 50 with a CP of about 138 at the moment.

I'm interested in PVP but if I go hurtling into a Battleground, what's going to happen to me?
I wont have amazing gear and stuff and truth be told my CP needs a bit of improvement before I can begin collecting items and sets.

I just fear going in and all that happens is I get clapped by super powered players 😂

BGs has no-CP mode right now so you dont need to worry.

There is a no-CP campaign in Cyro too.

If you start with pvp create a new character and do low lvl battlegrounds. Or else you will regret it above lvl 50 pvp is really frustrating for new players. Below 50 is very forgiving

You don't have to worry about CP in Battlegrounds. But you will need good gear and a build tailored for PvP to stand a chance. But there is only way to learn - and that is to do it. Just be prepared for a lot of death because you likely will be capped by super powered players. I have friends who were near traumatized by this game's PvP. haha

It's brutal. And deadly. But if you go in with a carefree attitude - realizing this is just a game - and are prepared to simply ignore all the trash talk like hate whispers calling you trash etc. it can be silly fun.

I'd recommend getting to CP 160 first. Pvp without sets (CP10-159) is horrible.

Get to CP160, and then get ready to feel very humbled. You're not going to know the meta (how your class works in pvp, how other classes work, how to read opponents, what are effective strategies right now) for a while and it's going to hurt.

There are going to be things that feel really unfair and cheesy because you think you didn't have a chance to counter an opponent's strategy. To be honest that happens sometimes especially this patch, but a lot of the time the issue is that you just don't understand the counters to their approach; it's much better early on to assume you're the problem and not the game. Do your research and try to implement the counters that you find.

It means that CP points in no-CP modes are disabled. It doesnt matter if you are 130 or 810.

You will most likely be absolutely mauled. Get a little better sets and get a bit of survivability. And stick to it. PvP is really fun but at first you will die constantly, since it is so different from non-PvP.

Best advice I can give you is try to stick to the back of your team at first, and roll dodge away and heal up when you start to take a lot of damage. It´s easier to learn when you´re alive.

Take a XP scroll and use the x2 XP with the Cauldron at the moment and grind up to CP160....
There's a huge learning curve with technique, but you honestly can't compete with the cheesy sets out there at lower CP.
Every once in a while a genius super player will smash you (and everyone else) to bits, but 80% of the time it's down to how much cheese. If you get the same meta as everyone else you'll survive longer to learn....

BG pvp was introduced years after the game released, & no cp for the very fact pvp was never intended in a small scale competitive arena format.

Players wanted an esport in a mmorpg that is in no way built for it. Way too many variables for balanced arena pvp.

Result - Endless complaints and balance swings.

Premade, no premade...cookie cutter fotm class specific builds every patch.

Watch any popular BG pvp streamer...not many left...a whole lot of complaining about balance, premades, lousy elo~rank system, etc...

Don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself & you will see.

Go to Cyrodiil if you want to pvp the way this game was intended. Relax, have fun, & complain about performance at times.

BG is without CP, and there is no-CP campaign for Cyrodiil as well, so your low cp does not matter much there. As of gear, you can start with crafted gear until you get to cp160, but you definitely will need two full set. Build your character for sustain and survivability first with attack power only secondary behind those, so you not get killed in seconds and can actually try to learn how it works

Usually if you get someone sending you a hate whisper calling you trash it's almost always because you've either killed them or they couldn't kill you no matter how hard they tried. As a total noob with unoptomized gear you'll probably die a lot but if you start getting hate whispers it means you're actually doing something right.

Expect to die a lot, and try to not be upset about it. Going to no CP in Cyrodiil and try to find a guild that's friendly to new PvP players will also help a lot. That's at least what I did when I ventured into PvP initially. I died a lot. And tried to figure out what I had to change and improve.

And it will help you to reach the gear cap, cp 160, since at that point you can start to truly invest in good sets which will make things easier.

I would suggest trying out Cyrodiil and sticking to defending keeps. Death in cyrodiil means nothing so its a good way to dip your toes into pvp without dragging down the team, and you can use the people around you as a safety net. A lot of times fights in cyrodiil end up with two front lines clashing, so its good to learn how and when to push out and throw some ranged attacks, and when to fall back into the safety of your teammates. Roll dodge is huge in pvp, you become virtually invincible for a short time, so use that to your advantage and also know that players will try to target you due to your lower level, so bait them into range of your team.

Try it, you have nothing to lose.

This is a good advice for a mag build. For stam build it's a bad advice as bows are useful. Do you need advice of how to not die to snipers and players cheesing venom+venom?

I agree with the recommendations to start in Cyrodiil first. Go in and type LFG and get in a large group. Follow the crown, and observe and contribute as much as you can. You'll get a feel for what's going on pretty quickly.

If you start out in Battlegrounds or Imperial City, you will die often, and quickly. This is usually the make or break point for new people. Some get frustrated, walk away, and never look back. But if you go into PvP knowing you're going to die a lot, it's a lot easier than expecting to win right away. Like anything, the more you practice, the better you will become.

I would suggest investing in a lot of health and resists to start with. Reassign your CP to put more points into critical resistance and player damage mitigation. Impenetrable traited gear helps a lot, too. Focus on survival at first, the damage will come later. Like someone said, you learn more by staying alive than by being dead. But study that death recap screen, and see what killed you and why.

Everybody starts out as a noob.... even the best. Stick with it, and you may an elite PvPer someday. Only one way to find out!

I would advise against joining a large group in Cyrodiil because the learning potential in large groups is not that great.

Instead, I would advise learning by failure. Simply copy a build you like from another player (there are plenty of builds on the web) and try some Battlegrounds or Cyrodiil on your own.

I believe you can learn the most from joining a PvP dedicated guild. Most (not all) players in such guilds know what they are talking about when playing PvP. And most (not all) players in such guild are very welcoming to players who are new to PvP and willing to learn.

The hardest part of starting PvP is the learning curve and frustration curve. At first, you will feel like you are jumping into a dark pit of frustration and learning nothing. But as you play more, you will start to see patterns and understand PvP more, and the frustration will become less.

BG's tries to match you up with with similarly-experienced players. Everyone gets wrecked at first. Just embrace it and learn as you go.

Watch YouTube videos of PvPers to get an idea of what the strats look like.

When you're in BG's, pay attention to the players who are doing well and try to copy them. You'll notice that at least 50% of success has nothing to do with your killing power.. it's about proper positioning, knowing when to push, when to retreat, etc. Pay attention to those things and the rest will come more easily. If your team is scattered, then just pick a teammate who seems to know what they're doing and follow them. If you're stuck on a team of stealthy NB's then just afk til the next match lol.

Get to CP160 whereupon you can invest in gear that will keep it's value. Start by duelling players with similar CP.

If you decide to PvP ( battlegrounds or Cyrodiil) just try and stay with your group. They might protect you.

i've been playing for years and still get smashed very quickly, but I still have fun. The best thing you can to to help stay alive is learn how to maneuver in tough situations.
