For new players in Eso who played WoW

Hi everyone!

I'd like to share a tip for new travelers in Tamriel, who have a lot of experience from games like World of Warcraft.

Elderscrolls online is not World of Warcraft. You can not even compare the two because Elderscrolls is a completely different game than WoW.

If you expect to find features and gamestyles in EsO as you are used too from other games, you may found yourself disapointed.

Elderscrolls is a new type of MMORPG with its own features and mechanics.

From my short experience with the game since early access, I can just say "Enjoy the game!". Play every level, every skill, as it was the max. Explore the world and mechanics by "playing", not by "grinding".

For those coming from other games, trying to keep an open mind for mechanics changes seems to be the most beneficial mindset when learning the game. Whether WoW or another game, people tend to assume that so-called traditional MMO mechanics are that way because they have been found to be the only or best way to do it - there are other ways to do things. Be prepared to learn those other ways.

And first and foremost, have fun. :)

I think the OP said WoW because people who played only that (or started with that) often think that is some sort of golden standard, while with people who played let's say AO, AC or EQ you might get different reactions

Yeah. After playing a certain game for so many years, WoW or otherwise, it becomes very easy to think of their mechanics as an addition to Newton's laws or something - just the way it is. It can be a bit jarring to see things differently.

As someone who has years upon years of playing MMORPGs, I can safely agree with the OP. ESO can not be compared to any current day MMO out there. It does have a few things like some others that are now long gone, but if you are use to WoW, this will be a new breed of gameplay.

For me, it brings back some nostalgia of my old EQ days before Roleplay servers came into be and before the graphics engine overhaul brought on by the moon kitties. Where the world was open, you had to pay attention, and getting lost brought about a new adventure.

Unlike so many MMOs of today, you don't make lvls by grinding, but by the story and exploring. I went from lvl 6 to lvl 7, by simply exploring, rummaging, crafting, and forging.

Enjoy ESO for what it is and have fun!
Because from my knowledge, there is no true comparison.

I'm so glade they broke away from the WoW model I'm loving this game just because it's not like wow.

The genre itself is breaking away from those mechanics, thankfully. Mostly via ability management, PvP mechanics, and use of instancing. It is refreshing.

I have to say that it's already been a much better community. Less whines about features from wow not being in game and I have even been in quite a few public groups that works great!

I think patience is a good trait to have. Let them fix the bugs......the "right" people already seams to be increasing!

If you can't do something yourself. Try finding a friend. It works here!

I started out in a wonderful old school game called Nexus TK. The play style was jarring and extreme when I left that for WoW. I got used to it and had fun. Now that I have left WoW for this.. I am having fun. You cant compare and I love it. Moving on is a wonderful thing..

This is actually a sentiment directed more towards Elder Scrolls fans I would suggest. People coming from other MMOs, such as myself, are playing ESO specifically because it is different. Why would we pay so much for more of the same? Makes no sense.

However, there's a hardcore of TES fans who are playing this because they want it to be TES VI and are totally closed to the notion of things being done another way.
