Receiving goods from guild merchants

This is not a bug report or anything like this, just a suggestion... When we buy something from a guild merchant, the game should not oblige us to change zone... And receive the stuff via the engine's "social" mail services as an attachment, which has nothing to do with the actual game lore/context/rpg factor! Would it be technically feasible to simply get the goods we buy at a guild merchant, dumped into our inventory? If only there was some pony express coming to us to deliver what we just bought, it would compensate for a lack of technical feasability.

fun fact the first time you zone in and do your shopping itll automatically send you a mail when you get the mail tab.

its only if you empty the mailbox and continue shopping do you need to zone for faster mail

anyway it could be improved on the technical aspect of it I would support

I don’t want items dumped directly into my inventory. I don’t always buy things on the character I want them for. I’d rather just leave them in mail until I get to the character I bought them for.

Seems to be a bug or something but yeah it can be annoying it seems to be with mail in general though I think I only seem to get it in more busy zones.

100% agreed. And you don't need to change zone to receive your stuff, just to be a bit patient, it'll come eventually B)

Electronic mail hasn't been invented yet. In my day, when you mail ordered something, it could take weeks to get it. That said, I've never had to move to a different zone to receive mail from Guild traders.

That'd be the main issue actually. Having to zone out after a 1st transaction has been taken out the inbox is weird. It should be feasible to repair that functionality, but anyways... There are other bugs that would need to be addressed before this "inconvenience".

It's not a bug, and every email server or app I've ever used has worked the same way.

For instance, if I'm looking at mail on my iPad it doesn't check for new mail until I close/reopen the app or switch mail folders. In MS Outlook you can usually tell the computer how often you want it to check for new mail; I think the default might be every 15 minutes, or something like that.

To be honest, I'd rather have to wait 15 minutes to get any new mail, or force a mail check by changing zones if I'm anxious to get something I'm expecting to receive, than have the server devote any extra CPU time and memory resources on keeping my mailbox constantly refreshed.

Sure it's not a bug, just an inconvenience. Although this is not SMTP nor IMAP mail protocol, I understand that having the engine check the "inbox" every 5 seconds or so would put more strain on the CPU. A button allowing us to do this instead of changing zone could be a solution.

...on the CPU, and especially their server for constantly sync all players.

That sounds like a good idea-- as long as players don't sit there spamming the button for whatever reason (anxious to receive some purchased item, deliberately trying to put a strain on the server to crash the game on other players during PvP, etc.).

They could make the button have a 30 second time out. They control every step of the process so preventing that kind of thing would be pretty easy, relatively speaking.

Might work that way for you. Doesn't for me. I always have to change zones.

Pro-tip: ducking into the outlaws refuge or one of your homes counts as a zone change.

it wouldn't work because then you wouldn't be able to by any unique items such as treasure maps if you already possess them

I don't see the relevance in regards to changing zone in order to update the inbox (whatever you've bought or received from another player and/or as a gift from the Crown store). It's not (and should not be) related, or am I missing something ?

That would do it... In fact:
    1. When would such button be used (unless a bunch of stooge would want to try spam the mail server with such requests into some DoS) ? Mostly after buying something, in lesser events when you're waiting for some COD or attached item from another player.
    2. Server and CPU strain? Actually and in regards to the usage of that above mentioned button, the current system would put more strain on the server + CPU, since when you buy something you need to completely change zone (let's be honest: how many are always waiting for the 10+ minutes to pass by?): not only for a mail update, but also for many other scripts, textures and objects, players and NPCs etc. And often twice, especially after buying stuff while crafting or inventory management in Vivec for instance: where changing zone is an imperative, for something unrelated to zoning that has to take place never the less... Thus even technically, having a button would make everything more efficient including on their server charge.
