is there double drops going on right now? Or does it happen at random?

Double drops are during Orsinium event and apparently that does not happen this year.

The Orsinium event usually happens in August and appears that they skipped it this year. So no double maelstrom drops for the foreseeable future.

I dont know, i dont go there often and always just get one weapon, like a dagger and thats it.

If you get a dagger you will ALWAYS get something else with it.

MA weapons fill two slots, so if it's a dual wield they will give you both at once (dagger, axe, mace etc.)

Yep, what @Stanx said. You'll either get a 2-handed weapon like a bow, staff, or greatsword/battleaxe or you'll get two 1-handed like dual daggers or sword'n'board.

@mocap Orsinium has been in August the past 2 years (ever since events became more common) but yeah, you're right; the one and two year anniversary events were in November. I think they've since shifted November to be the Undaunted event.

There is no Orsinium event this year. The next events are: 1) Undaunted at the end of Nov, 2) New Life in mid Dec, 3) MidYear Mayhem in mid Jan, and 4) a Morrowind Celebration combining both Vvardenfell AND Clockwork City DLCs.

With the ever increasing amount of DLCs expect to see more events that double up previous zones such as Northern & Southern Elsweyr together. The calendar can’t fit all of these with their own in addition to other events.

They changed that drop mechanic a few years ago. Before that you only got one item, whether it was a bow or a staff or a dagger, etc. Now you get either one two-piece (bow, staff, two-hander) or two one-pieces from the same set (dual wield, sword-and-board).

Most likely because they want folks buying Markarth and focusing on the new solo arena drops.

If its any help... i did normal maelstrom today and from the final boss I got:
Maelstrom weapon
Winterborn weapon
Para bellum jewellery

That is a normal drop.

You will get extra wep drop (gold) if you get on leaderboard (with your class). Its only once per week, wep will be mailed to you Sunday evening. Since every class has their own leaderboard, it's easy to get on it with less played classes. With warden or dk you only need 3-400k score and you get it even if you have no vitality left and use sigils and take an hour. With meta and easy mode classes like NB and sorcs you may need better score.
