Domus Phrasticus terrible design mistake

DOMUS PHRASTICUS (Elinhir in Craglorn) design is completely wrong!!! What????

The interior area don't fit exterior one. It looks like interior is from some other building. For example, if you look at the facade, you will see 2 windows at the 1st floor, when inside you have only one. Also you can see attic there, but, well, no real attic exists!!! The central window at back side of the house's 1st floor has 3 sides outside, inside you see TWO sides window totally out the center of the house!

Outside the house is way more larger than inside. The list of errors goes on and on...

Its like ZoS asked to one design team to create the facade, another one the interior and both teams despised each other so much they created completely different houses just to embarass the other part!!

I pay 295,000 gold for it. Yeah, its not real money but I spent a lot of my time hard working to get this virtual amount of gold.

I ask ZoS some REAL explanation regarding this flaw -- NOT the "oh, the original owner was a crazy person, so the house' architectural design is magically crazy too".

I read that other houses have similar design mistakes, so I see a very serious problem of visual development here.ugpxisr1fjbj.jpg

Every house has such mistakes. Even buildings originally created for a town like the furnishings store in Solitude. Zos doesn't pay attention to detail.

    1. u can see the house before buying? [snip]
    2. zos will never change a such old house cause it would destroy many houses of older players and *** them off

This has been brought up before. ZOS has never done anything about this, or any of the other houses with similar issues.

Furthermore, with each update, they keep releasing more houses with mismatched interiors. This is true for player housing just as it is for any other structure in the game.

There are some houses with really minor issues, like the Redguard homes and the Original Khajiti houses. (The ones from Elsweyr are utter garbage on this front, except the inn room which is mostly fine.) Some Orc homes are fairly OK too, but do tend to have mismatched window placement. As a general rule of thumb, the bigger the house is, the less likely for the interior to match the exterior.

Some issues can be fixed with careful placement of furnishings. For example, I have Domus myself, and have done extensive reworks on the exterior. I've covered some windows, created some new windows, and added a backing for the fireplace on the first floor - there is a window outside where the fireplace is inside. I also created a new fireplace on the second floor, covering the window, since it made zero sense for there to be a window where the chimney for the first floor's fireplace should be.

I also made a faux trap door to the third floor that is obvious from the outside, as well as a faux door to the area under the stairs. There are windows on the exterior where the stair is on the first floor. I pretend this faux door leads to the bathroom of the house, and thus did not build one for it. Which helped a lot, since I wasted all my item slot budget for a bathroom on fixing the issue with the wonky architecture.

In the end, Domus is one of the less egregious homes in the game, it doesn't mean that the devs at ZOS are not at fault here, they totally are. The interior of Domus, and other homes with such issues, should be fixed to match the exterior. But ZOS, just like Bethesda before them, doesn't give a rats ass about such tiny details, so don't hold your breath.

Keep this lesson in mind for the future, and carefully inspect these things before committing your gold. That's about all one can do really.

    1. I'm not blind. I bought the house, and i'm NOT asking for a refund.
    2. Its a serious problem, and [snip]. Its not MY fault, or any other player. We pay for a good graphically correct game. We pay, ZoS should deliver.

Agreed. There are glaring issues with most homes. The art and style of the game suggests that they in fact employ an art director, but for the life of me I can't figure out how this stuff gets past them, and even worse when its brought up or pointed out, nothing is done.

Imagine buying a burger or a car or something and the manufacturer being completely silent on issues you bring to their attention. Only in the video game world is the customer not valued.

What becomes more annoying is that almost every superficially symmetrical house turns out not to be as soon as you start placing items.

I believe one of the biggest problems is all the house are just models of different homes throughout the game. Doesn't seem like much was changed in the layout when housing became available. For example, the house the OP is mentioning is, as far as I can tell, and exact replica of a house in Cheydinhal, minus the second story having a major hole in the front. Ebonheart Chateau is an almost perfect copy of (if I remember correctly) the exact same model as the bank in Mournhold. The Daggerfall Outlook is just a cookie cutter of Wayrest Castle, besides the trap door to the coast. I guess my point is a lot of the things we see, from the mounts and pets down to the houses, are just regurgitated models from something we have had since the game first came out. I don't let this deter me from buying every single house I can with my gold, but I do understand the frustration.

I put two Orcish platforms (large rectangular platform/floor) clipped together to make a wall upstairs that hides the window where a chimney should be instead. Also makes it a 2 bedroom house which I wanted so it works OK.

Negotiating the outside with the inside? I'm guessing its a split townhouse, you have neighbors on the right side (when looking at it from the front) who are dead or very quiet. You just skip choosing your own door in the lobby and get placed in your side of the building. Hand wave the rest of the architecture away with magic I say, and try to enjoy the rest.

If you're showing off this house, unless they own it too, people are unlikely to call out these inconsistencies and focus on what you did with the place.

Unfortunately, this is an old house (old content by now). Nothing will change.
Before you buy, you can buy and test the house on the PTS.

This is how I discovered many issues with it, and gave up on buying it. I liked that it has a wall with a tower, but the wall is split in half by an invisible wall, plus there are many annoying small things like that. There are better options, some even free if you take part in events/have certain DLCs.

My impression is that regarding houses (player or not) there are two teams working on them... one does the exterior and the other does the interiors. Sometimes these don't match at all (so yeah, it's all magic). Even in Solitude there are plenty of such examples. This feedback hasn't been addressed yet.

I'm afraid this feedback will never be addressed. Perhaps exactly because most of these botched designed house are here to stay, ZoS has little or nothing to say. I'd like to read some kind of acknowledgment, though.

Besides, its not only the houses which has design problems. Some furniture too. I sent a feedback regarding this very obvious design error (image bellow) from Seat of Snow Prince throne (antiquary lead). I asked ZoS, please, to fix it asap.

As you can see, the toon is completely out of the seat. I have about 10 of theses thrones put aside because they look like really bad.

ESO is a amazing game, beautiful, the scale is astonishing, and most of it is a work of art. But those details are really a bummer to me. ZoS nailed it on large scale; but not so much in some specific design details.g68z0lprm2ss.jpg
