It’s time to update movement animations, character models and spell animations

I actually like most of the animations in this game and prefer that they are somewhat simple and less flashy than some games...

The ones I don't like are on the Warden:

    - Cliff Racer should be changed to Ice Wraith for Magicka (and do Frost Damage)

    - Scorch would be cooler if there was a bit more animation of the bugs doing something rather than just appearing and disappearing. Deep fissure should also do some sort of elemental damage.

The whole Morrowind theme is so passe now... Warden should get some updates to fit with the game in general.

I definitely think cliff racer needs to be redone. Not only is it super slow and the mag version's morph sucks, instead of a wraith I'd just be happy with some sort of normal bird. That definitely goes with what you said on the Morrowind theme.

I also agree scorch needs to be a lot cooler. It's a shame they made the whole path animals or it could have been some kind of grasping vines or something. The bugs are yawn inducing..

When I read on other MMO sites about ESO one of the big complaints I see a lot from people who have tried the game are that the abilities and combat are boring or not fun. The rest of the world really looks great but man..some of these skills and animations need some serious work because they just feel blah..

Edit: I just wanted to add, I'm not talking about adding over the top flashy anime type light show abilities with huge weapons. I'd just like to see well thought out and animated abilities that have some impact feeling to their use. Not simply done templar jabs over and over. That ability could look and feel so much better.

100% percent agreed. Why do the "wild tamers" (npc wardens) in falkreath dungeon have way cooler animations for their warden abilities? Their version of scorch is way cooler. Instead of boring shalks, they have a Haj Mota that basically travels a km half burrowed to f you up.

Any time someone criticises any aspect of the graphics in this game including animations, movement and skill effects etc - and especially when they compare them unfavourably with MMOs like WoW and FFXIV - I wonder what platform they're playing on and with what machine specs and settings. Then I wonder what they think the changes they're looking for would do to performance.

I like the majority of animations in ESO with two exceptions: the silly hobby horse movement of mounts and that long hair “in the wind” looks as if it has bacon grease pomade so it moves as a whole unit. Quite silly

I enjoy the game but honestly it just looks so cheap, dated and cheesy in some areas. An overhaul in movement animations, character models and spell animations would really help this game out in my opinion.

I know this isn’t FFXIV, WoW or whatever other MMO and I don’t expect it to look like those. But at the same time this game looks really dated in these areas.

Just my opinion and something I wish the devs would consider.

Movement animations in TESO are very bad xD

Combat motion is terrible, it should need improvement..

Personally, I think the animation work is very bland and actually bad for todays standards. We needn't talk about effects and stuff - that's different. If you compare to any 3rd person games where your characters feel grounded, believable, all movements seem smooth, ESO seems just like a prototype game where the animation department did not start any work but used some temporary animation data to present their idea of the game. It is not what I would expect in any product in 2022. But to be full on honest here: Animations have not been pretty in 2014 either. If I remember right, Last of Us 1 released 2013? Those animations alone are so very far beyond what we do have here in 2022, there ain't words to describe the gap.

So of course, I would LOVE new / improved animations. Some clothing physics - whatever. Making ESO prettier would go a long way. Especially, if there was a way to smooth weaving. In regards to effects? I think the engine has trouble with some alphas. So .. guess they needa step carefully there.

Anyway, having a more beautiful game to look at, especially in the age of streaming, could go a long, long way.

The only major thing that looks dated to me are the mount movement animations, especially horse type mounts. They look stiff as a board

The main thing which is dated here is this thread. Looks like it has gotten like 2 necros throughout it's lifespan,

    Hi there,

Since this thread is rather old, we're going to go ahead and close it. Please keep in mind that sometimes it is better to create a new topic, instead of replying in one that was posted a while ago.

    Thanks for your understanding.
