I've always found that to be a really bleak perspective. I mean, yes, all the component pieces have been used before (if we warp the definitions far enough), but that doesn't preclude the possibility of something new and unique.
Now, there is an issue with people using The Hero's Journey like its a coloring book, but that's a different problem.0 -

Obviously it's not a 1-for-1 "lift and shift," since Falstaff was actually part of the nobility, and Hal wound up ordering the execution of one of his former carousing-mates after he became king (for pulling the kind of stuff they would have done when he was a drunken, wastrel prince).
