So what are your hopes for next year (Spoilers for Tes 4 plot and next years most likely theme))

Many of you might not even played Oblivion but many of you might have and I was one of them that was the game that introduced me to the Elder Scrolls after all. Some of you might know Elder Scrolls because of Skyrim and how that was a very successful product for Bethesda. You might think Eso is like Skyrim online or successor to Skyrim. In reality its really the successor to Oblivion. Development for Eso started in 2007, development for Skyrim started in 2008.

For some reason I strongly suspected next year will be Cyrodiil, its clear, now that next year will be in fact Cyrodiil and it will be the Year of the Imperials and by the looks of it,.
Zenimax did something on the pts, I'm wondering if this was an honest mistake, or to give hints to us. On first week of Pts, they had another chapter thing in the crownstore, though it had no icon or anything, it was called the Bad Lands but according to another thread, the French version translates to Dead Lands and if you know your Tes lore that is Mehrunes Dagon's plane of Oblivion.
Models for a unique kind of Daedra and Mehrunes Dagon have been datamined and in some way Dagon may play a role in next years storyline.

For those that don't know this Mehrunes Dagon has played as a major antagonist or has assisted the antagonists in Arena, Battlespire and Tes 4 Oblivion.
In Arena he might have aided Jager Tharn, in Battlespire he was behind the whole story there. Tes Oblivion is where Dagon's direct hand and invasion began assisted with a mad elf. As for Tes 4 Oblivion that seems to be where they are drawing next years themes from. The spoiler down below is basically the main themes and spoilers from Tes 4. Where next year will likely draw from, not only from the main stuff but potentially the dlc and expansion as well.
For a more gist of what TES 4 Oblivion was about, The Emperor and his three sons were assassinated, The Emp was voiced by Patrick Stewart and he basically does a pardon or allows you to be free. As you and his blades escape through the sewers you get separated then join back up then the Emperor gives the amulet and tells you to find his last son. Basically the deaths cause the dragonfires to weaken and go out.
Dagon's forces and allies the Cult of the Mythic Dawn then invaded causing the Oblivion Crisis that caused major destruction in Tamriel. The Mythic Dawn and Dagon's forces destroyed Kvatch you find the emps *** son Martin who was voiced by Sean Bean, and well basically closing Oblivion Gates and dealing with the Mythic Dawn and getting the amulet of kings back. Dagon is able to at the end fully enter Mundus, Martin sacrifices himself and seals the barrier between Mundus and Oblivion permanently to prevent something like that from happening again. Though Daedra can still manifest avatars and be summoned they can no longer mass invade or come to Tamriel in their true powerful forms.

Knights of the Nine, this was the dlc that introduced a Divine Centric storyline and introduced the Pelinal stuff, the main thing was retrieving the Divine Crusader Relics and helping the Ghosts of the of the Knights of the Nine priory, while also stopping Merida's Daedric Forces under the command of the half elf half divine, Umaril the Unfeathered. Though Merdia's direct involvement in these events is not clear. But her forces served under him and its unclear how involved Merida was with this story but I'd imagine she knew about it or maybe orchestrated it.

Then we had the Shivering Isles, the Hero becomes Sheogorath's champion and ends up ending the curse placed on Jyggalag and the Champion does this by taking Sheogorath's place and mantling the Prince. The hero doing what other's who attempted to Mantle Sheogorath had failed to do and that is defeat Jyggalag and by doing this ended the curse. Then the Sheogorath you meet in Skyrim is actually the former hero of Tes 4 and anyone that played this storyline would know that.
Its all but confirmed next year will be in Cyrodiil, we will be seeing Skingrad for sure, and I also suspect we will be seeing the University of Gwylim in game sometime next year as well. We will possibly be seeing both Bravil and Leyawiin as well.
So next year will be Imperial, and they did something that confirmed what I thought would happen if they were going to do a full Imperial theme. I strongly suspected that this year we would be seeing the Imperial version of the New Life because of my suspicions I had about next year. Turns out that came true as the pts has a new quest unique to them. So yes Imperials are indeed getting love for the New life festival and hopefully lots of love next year with the Cyrodiil content that is coming.
So are you guys excited for this? Are you guys ready for Tes 4 Nostalgia?

My hope is the same as it has been for the past year and 9 months or so: Bosmer as a playable race.

Because they aren't in the game now.

Proper Argonians would be nice, too. And some devs who are even just slightly familiar with the lore.

Taking stealth away from the Bosmer is like taking magic away from the Altmer, making Nords allergic to mead, or making Orcs pretty.

Regardless of our guesses on the local and what the "theme" is, I think I speak for most that we want a well written and produced story. Without a good story who cares where it is located.

ESO in general is already a gigantic rehash of TES IV Oblivion's plot. Replace Mehrunes Dagon with Molag Bal and Oblivion Gates with Dark Anchors, and you've pretty much got the picture. Then you add in the Imperial City's quest, and you've even got the Dragonfires and the proto-Blades.

I'm hoping for more Imperial lore. If ZOS decides to crib from Oblivion's DLC, I really hope they do somethinf like Knights of the Nine. It give a lot of depth to the TES Aedra who tend to get a lot of "generic good deity" treatment. LOL, no, Kynareth expects you to "respect" nature by letting a bear maul you, Zenithar will let you destroy yourself in despair if you don't honor Kynareth, and Stendarr will curse your descendents for generations if you kill a beggar while wearing his gauntlets. The Aedra don't mess around.

So I'd like something that explores an element of the lore previously left mostly untouched, as opposed to "Vestige, save us from another world-ending, kingdom-breaking crisis!"

I think something with the Aedra would be so interesting, like some have said. Like the Aedra or an Aedra comes in and helps a broken part of Cyrodiil maybe from another daedra attack or akaviri attack but it’s kind of like “are the aedra here to help orrr...????”

My hope is the same as yours...not expectation... I did NOT say expectation.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

People have been eluding to skingrad being the next DLC because of stuff mentioned in the markath quest. I would like for there to be some more PvP content even know I am a PvE player so if they added skingrad as a new spill off PvP region I would be happy with that.
Though logic would be that we get some dlc in DC areas. We haven't had any content there at all but lots of content in the other alliances.
TES6 is in development and rumours are that it will be hammerfell, so I imagine ESO will want to avoid using the same area as TES6.

Considering how many areas ZOS has left it’s going to be hard to avoid hammerfell. I think ZOS needs to do it soon, before TES6 drops... which is rumored to be 2024-2025.

Never played obilvion but I do like to lookup lore about tes. So I now a little.

Battlespire: From what I know its a tower proving ground for mages? Would be a good location for an arena or trial.

Shivering Isles: Would be nice to have this as a zone. I really havent ever been here apart from the eso mages guild story and the one quest in tes5. It would be nice to go there as sheo is one of my favorite princes. Dont know if they would do this with an imperial themed year just because it was a dlc in tes4 but regardless its on my list of places id like to go.

Imperial crafted furniture: Last I knew this wasnt a thing in game. I tend to gravitate more towards the elven things in game but I think the imperial players should get some crafted furniture. Which to be fair if they do a cyrodil or imperial zone, would be hard to not do.

Ayleid goodness: As I said above i tend to gravitate more towards elven things. Would really like if they added in some ayleid stuff. They could give ayleid there own official motif, as they did with moamer who both previously shared ancient elf as a motif. Perhaps make it part of antiquities for the zone. Ayleid player home, I dont think we have an Ayleid themed home yet ingame. Furniture, a few more ayleid themed furnishings could be cool.

Battlemage skill line: I dont know much about battlemages but heard it was basically onehanded and magic. That has been a weapon skill line Ive wanted in eso from launch.

I am not excited for the next chapter. I was excited for Greymoor and took a blow to the face on release day. And the year before was just as bad. So how could I possibly expect something good this time?
Story-wise, Clivia's whereabouts are still unknown, aren't they? Maybe it's time to build a council for the imperials.

^ This. So far quality of storytelling has been declining (even if I still somehow enjoy it) and number of "deus ex machina" twists with characters (that "no matter who and how dies we can always bring them back" stuff) is disheartening :(
Wonder if we ever see again Orsinium level of story quality.

    I'd settle happily for
    - responsiveness fixes (both keyboard response and all the desyncs that are currently making some group content really bad)
    - sorting out the incredibly slow ticket processing
    - finishing the long promised fixes to the really slow character loading
    - dragon sounds that don't go on forever (still)

    over any new content.

Edit - oops, I misrembered some lore! I was really confident I'd remembered too! See the insightful comment below from @ectoplasmicninja for the correction.
If we are getting some Mehrunes Dagon, as the character model suggests - I would LOVE just a little bit more lore expanding on how he was a chief to the Dreugh back in the last Kalpa, before he destroyed almost everything. It establishes his credibility as a world-ending threat, and I can't be the only player who wonders what the Dreugh were like when they were the dominant intelligent species on Nirn.

In an ideal world I'd love to go to Dagon's realm and speak with a surviving Dreugh from the last kalpa, it would be like meeting the last Dwarf as we did in the original Morrowind.

You're mixing Dagon up with Molag Bal. Bal was the chief of the dreugh in the previous kalpa, the Ruddy Man, and it was his carapace dropped in the world and donned by a child that gave rise to the massive battle with Vivec that created the West Gash and all of that.

Mehrunes Dagon on the other hand was possibly created by the Magna Ge to be a god of hope and revolution (according to the Mysterium Xarxes) but we have seen much more of the darker side of revolution when it comes to him.

Interesting. So what if Mehrunes Dagon is motivated by a good purpose and the Divines are just the bad guys in the story, that we have been serving all along ? That would be some interesting twist.

I honestly do want to see a Divine centric storyline and a more Knights of the Nine like theme would be epic. A divine centric storyline exploring the Divines and their lore and well their personalities and quirks and all that.
Problem is Zenimax is actually restricted by Bethesda when it comes to the Divines. Apparently only Bethesda is allowed to really work with the Divines for some strange reason.

As for Dagon Mk did a very interesting thing with him and Alduin they could also explore.

Oh wow, did not know that was true. I've always wondered why ESO has been so fixated on the Daedra/Tribunal with no Aedric involvement. Makes the whole story-line of ESO feel incomplete, coming from TES4 as my first game in the series.

More Aedric stuff would be ace! Loved Daedra and all that but would be nice to see the other side of the coin as it were :)

Also if going to a Daedric Princes realm it has to be a chapter in its own right, would feel like it being sold short/not feeling right if just a small DLC zone.

I thoguht the Aedra are in a similar position to the Warhammer 40k God Emperor of Mankind. Creating the world put such a strain on them they exist in a very weakened state and can't do that much aside from the occasional intervention or granting of power to a mortal champion.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.
