I'm reading this forrums for years , but this year was the worst year regarding the scammings ! So many people are scammed and the GM dont take any action. It is sad ! I've been scammed a month ago , and still didnt recive the gold back ! And Im sure that person who scammed me did a lot of gold from other naive players. Its funny how fast GMs reacts on this forum to tell you "you've been warned" , "that is against zos "bla bla bla , and how slow or never act in the actual game which we play and write here about our experinces ! I'm very disapointed about you Zos ! Thanx GOD you've been bought by Micro !
Ps:I still wait that good damn gold !

It's generally better to join some group on discord that specialises in selling crowns. They have reputation systems going on so scammers tend to be weeded out and if it's not enough for you there are middlemen that can help you with a transaction for a fee. I spent few million gold on Crowns this year and never got scammed.

What was your case? Were you buying from a group, guild or some rando advertising in zone chat?

If you constantly keep getting scammed, it is not ZOS' fault but yours. They might return your gold once but it is not guaranteed because it's not their blame.

Crown selling is never risk free. It was never intended to be used like this. It is always risky and no one recommends it yet people do it.

Next time buy from a trusted seller and not from a lvl 10 person who sells cheap in zone chat.

if you buy crowns from a random player in zone chat you do so at your own risk, as a GM of a guild there is very little we can do other than ban the scammer from the guild and warn others about that scammer. there are a few things you can do to safe guard yourself:
    1. join a crown exchange Discord
    2. Always insist on a middle man
    3. Record the Transaction to use as evidence

As a GM we are not responsible for refunding lost gold, most GM's take their role very seriously and we are held accountable if we allow members to scam or use exploits ect (as per the new TOS)
And Just like ZOS (speaking for myself) GM's will not always tell you what has been done.
I am sorry for your experience but clumping together all the GM's and making them scapegoats for your misfortune is not the way to deal with it.

I think they meant GM as in ZOS GameMaster, not actually the GM (Guild Master) of a guild, given the context of the OP.

You know.... you haven’t specified HOW you got scammed. Was this a crowns for gold gifting exchange gone bad? Someone panhandling? Your failure to use the COD system when trading with people in general? Someone price gouging? There are a lot of ways to be ‘scammed’. You seem to be purposefully vague in order to gaslight folks into “ Grrr, bad ZOS, grrrrrrrr!” and getting them to agree with you..., however if you have been scammed more than once perhaps some self reflection is in order? It is Honestly hard to tell if you have had it happen once and think it is on an uprise based on other people’s anecdotal evidence....or if it has been a reoccurring problem for you directly. Which begs the question, could you have taken more steps to begin with to help secure your transaction or, barring that, at least then provided ZOS with more to go on.

At the launch of the gifting system there were advised guidelines folks were asked to follow in order to help protect themselves. There was the launch of systems like Tamerial Crown Exchange Discord to help establish safer practices and help vette people. Does it happen? Sure, now and then. However if you followed the guidelines, submitted a proper report with evidence and account name + date/time Info, and did not just jump on the random stranger in zone chat with suspiciously cheap rates.... then perhaps there could be something else amiss in how you issued your report? Manners and patience go a long way towards getting help. Additionally, being on the gold side...the fictional currency, you will likely be a lower priority than someone on the RL money investment involved crown side of these transactions. Which is reasonable.

Something you may not know about the help system is that it works on a ‘longest wait time’ system. So if you submit a ticket, and then continue poking them about it, you are effectively resetting yourself to the bottom of the Help pile. If you don’t keep your cool and come off rude or impatient, they are under no obligation to help you recoup your losses from a system that is technically a ‘use at your own risk’ set up. Have you taken into account timing and potential workload complications for the helpdesk? Such as working from home difficulties or a potential increase in help tickets they have to slog through? High traffic delays happen around Events, large Updates, Content releases, etc all the time. It could take a few days to get that reply or it could take a week or two depending, And helpdesk has different divisions, each dealing with different types of issues. Something to keep in mind any time you need to contact ZOS with any sort of help ticket.

As the GM of two guilds, one of which being a large housing guild that sees a LOT of crown/gold exchanges as a result of our guild obsession, I can say that I have not seen any uptick in instances of scamming that could not be directly traced to people not following the established safety guidelines. Not even with sale transactions being up due to the new crates launchIng, a normally higher risk time each quarter. A good rule of thumb is to stick to folks you know or established exchange groups and to remember that if it sounds like a deal that is too good to be true, it probably is.

The problem is that there are currently quite a few limited-time offers on the crown store. Discord crown exchange services are overwhelmed and cannot deal with all the demand. Scammers benefit from this situation.
I too want to buy an item that will be gone in a few hours and cannot find a secure way of buying it with gold.
Doesn't matter, I'll live without the item, but I understand that many are falling for scammers right now and that scammers are thriving.

(I've been scammed ONCE and refunded by ZOS, but I never expected them to. They have no obligation to do so and they won't do it twice).

Yep, for over a year I bought crowns for gold no problems. I got relaxed... got scammed myself. Lesson learnt.

The email from Zos CSR was disheartening tho, and I guess they won't be taking any actions. So, that is why the scammers will keep scamming. At this rate, just create a gold for crown vendor in the game and be done with it Zos, or implement a system that moderates gifts for gold in game.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

    I got scammed too recently.

The amount of money it would take to develop anything to facilitate crown store trading would make itself back within a month by the support staff not having to chase this up.

I just got told it is being investigated, this was about 10 days ago. Heard nothing back since. I know this guy has scammed many, just by viewing the forums and some people name dropping him. I don't see how reviewing a transaction can take 10 days, perhaps this guy has scammed half of tamriel or something.

I feel like this thread needs a good story.

A guy in my guild struck up a random discussion with someone in game, just zone chat stuff. The person mentioned Greymoor and my guildie said " I don''t know I don't have it". The player just said "Oh, wait a minute" and my guildie thought nothing of it until a few minutes later when the player gifted him the DLC.

Don't know who you are or even if yor read the forums, but I'd like to thanks you. For giting the DLC to a stranger and reminding me that there are many more GREAT people who play this game and there are scammers.

I don't use the Bethesda online store to buy ESO crowns and chapters and ESO+. Instead, I use the Steam store to buy them. I'll check to see whether the Steam store allows gifting, but I thought it does-- although I've never bought anything in it for any account but my own, so I can't say for sure.

I don't think he was asking you, but rather the person who told the story of a stranger spontaneously offering the "Greymoor DLC" to another stranger ingame. But since Greymoor isn't a DLC and cannot be gifted via crowns or anything, the story looks pretty fake. Too bad, was a nice story.

But you can still gift it using the store of whatever platform you’re using. I’ve gifted a chapter to a friend, and my husband gifted me the latest chapter as a pre-order. Just because you can’t do it through the crown store doesn’t mean it’s not possible.

It is actually ZoS fault. They could easily implement system for these transactions ingame.
You can try and blame ZoS or GM's or other people, but the truth is, if the buyer/seller gets scammed, it's their own fault.
There is ALWAYS a risk in buying/trading/selling items person to person in any MMo.
Scamming has been going on in MMo's since the early days of EQ, and as long as there are still "suckers" out there, scammers will continue to thrive.

I am guessing the people that monitor these forums are not the same people that respond to in game problems. Even if by some chance they are this still isn't the place to get their attention. You need to file a report in game and then make sure to follow up on it a few times. Posting in forums is going to do very little if anything to remedy the situation.

Provide screenshots when you report in game.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

This hasn't been possible at all last time I looked. Where is this gifting option in the online store?

I wasn't saying the option is there, I was asking if it's there.

Agreed, but using the platforms (XBox, PSN, Steam, etc... ) still requires more information than just the ingame ID, so that means it's not possible to do that for a stranger you've just met in zone chat. Besides, a total stranger offering you something sounds very nice and all, but it still looks quite fishy. I mean, logically, either this person is on a generosity trip and offers stuff to everyone (which, while being very nice, is also pretty nuts AND expensive), or there's some hidden agenda.

I have never been scammed in-game and never will be. I only do secure trades and do not go forward if the other person suggests doing the trade in a manner I felt uncomfortable with. This starts with the common sense approach of not trading with strangers as that is asking to be scammed.

BTW, I think Zos should change anything they have set so it can be gifted so it comes to us as a token. That way we can sell and buy it via trader guilds which is a great way to trade securely. If some choose to trade directly then that would be on them.
