Enemies shooting through walls and hills

Since Summerset, enemies are able to shoot with fireballs etc, through walls and hills.

Good example pre Summerset:
Using pickpocket on a Mage-NPC inside a building but you fail. You don't want to kill him, you're running behind a wall and he has to stop casting to get you in sight again.
That way you can easly bypass the "being infight" time to escape through a door.
This could be applied on any wall/stones/hills or anything what would be inbetween you and a enemy. It's logic and i always loved that this behavior was used in ESO. It made it a especially good game.

Since Summerset:
You use pickpocket inside a building on a Mage-NPC but you fail. He will shoot at you no matter what, you can't get out of sight, not even a bend wall will stop him looking and shooting at you, he just shoots straight through.. This applies on anything what could be inbetween you and a enemy. A archer just shoots strait into your feet through a hill, he dosn't care.
This is complete unlogical and rly stupid.

I don't even know, if developers inteded this behavior, or if it's a mistake.

Will this be changed back/fixed any time soon? It's one of the reasons i stopped playing ESO.

I hate the heat seeking ability of ranged attacks in PvP. All of a sudden everyone’s Angelina Jolie from Wanted.

I rly want them to patch it back. Especially as a sneaky character, who wants to hide behind a wall/tree/stone to get out of sight, it's completly confusing.
You can't even hide from enemies while questing, they just see through anything. It's so stupid.

It probably won’t ever get fixed. They’re too concerned with so called “blancing”.

Yeah, I had case in dungeon where I couldn't loot a treasure box because some mage kept shooting fireballs at me through the ceiling...

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_RobGarrett Any chance this could be looked at? It is still a problem. I notice it mostly in delves when try to run past mobs and get tagged through walls with fireballs.

I was doing skyshards in cyrodiil and some npc mage sat 5 feet away from me preventing me from completing the shard with repeated fire staff attacks - from the other side of a solid stone wall.

Be happy you never played EverQuest then LOL
Player 1 "You all suck, dont you know how to play this game?"
    Player 2 "Huh?"
Player 1 "just run passed everything!"
Player 3 "We could just kill them on the way"
Player 4 "Why am I 89% of total DPS, one of the only ones that Qued as DPS, and yet in a group with 3 other DPS that cant seem to kill the basic mobs in a normal dungeon, and being told I suck?"
    Player 1 "Whatever, GFL"
Player 1 has left the group...

Has this actually worked properly at some point? Like its a bug and not a feature of the outdated engine? I've assumed the game is not even supposed to mind obstructions and just dealt with it. Also those seeking missiles are WoW level disapponring. (I quess game decides it's a hit before starting animaion, not after.)

Worked properly for quite a while, several years, then broke. First was just NPCs, then players, then both, then NPCs but only some player attacks...etc.

Bump, would like to see a developer commenting on this.

It's pretty much game breaking, because you can't even do sneak missions from DLC's as it was intended, when you can't hide from enemies anymore, because they plainly just look through the wall you tried to hied at.

Hmmm, I also thought that it is just a very poor fight design. Strange to know that is a bug, not a silly feature. Because looks like devs now think that is a feature, not a bug (they don't fix it). But that is a very bad feature...

This is incredibly annoying, I can't put down my liquid lightning if there's so much a bump on the ground, but npc archers and mages can hit me when I'm well out of range and behind a house! I do feel like it's something that's got worse over time, I don't remember it from the early days.

I really think there was just a developer who turned off obstruction collision with console to test some thing and never turned it back on again, but also never told anywone about it.
Since I'm pretty sure the developers of this game don't play it themselves (because many things would change then, seeing the silliness), noone of them ever mentioned it.

Agreeing with the last sentiment - looks like a botched dev move, not collateral damage from another change. VERY irritating.

I like that image... but gosh this is irritating
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

ESO has always had a "soft lock".
Meaning that if you and/or a NPC had LOS at the time of the attack, the target can't outrun the attack and it will go through obstacles.

That's because the game engine determines the success of an attack the instant the attack is triggered.
And in order to convey that successful attack, especially for ranged attacks, they made the projectile follow the target until it hits, no matter what.

It's been like that since beta.

    Noone is talking abaout that.
I was talking about enemies looking and shooting through obstacles whenever they want and not just 1 attack what's already shot. Sure a projectile what's already on its way, can't be blocked anymore in a online game.

If you carefully read, you can see that i wrote, that you for example, can't sneak away from enemies anymore, because they just see through obstacles and follow/shoot at you however they want. This breakes the whole Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood DLC as well as any general gameplay.

    You probably should re-read it.

    Edit: grammar

I've been doing DB on a new (low lv) character and do not recall being this clumsy in hide and seek last time I did it. But I've had frequent mini lags last few days which can also contribute.

Na it's not you, they just see you everywhere, you can't hide anymore.

There's no line of sight collision after someone has been targeted. I don't see them having the netcode to handle this in a reasonable way, so this is how its always been, and probably always will be.

    Blocking though, that helps.
