I simply have one of each class to play. I don't especially consider them alts as they are full builds. I just choose which to use in a given circumstance based on group composition or what feels like the most fun for a given activity.

I've been playing the same little wood elf since 2007 as she has grown, learned time travel and moved from Oblivion to Skyrim to ESO. She is skilled with both bow and magic and eschews melee weaponry. To support our needs, she manifests in ESO as numerous variants. All look the same and the only real differences are the class and spec. She may go to work in ESO as a templar healer. The next session, she might grab her bows and play as a sorc archer. She approaches which class/spec she plays for any given session as casually as she selects her hairstyle or outfit.

This is basically driven by ESO's unfriendliness to our desire to play as a mystic archer - an archer who backs herself up with support magic instead of melee. Oblivion and Skyrim were friendly enough to bow-wielding mages that one character sufficed. So. . . rather than abandon ESO as unsuitable, we came up with this rather unique approach.

All are fully geared, 8 trait max level crafters. They all do writs. My alts are for multiple roles (PvE tank healer and DPS) plus multiple PvP toons. Some patches Warden just isn't viable as a PvP DPS (my primary PvP) so I can switch out as necessary.
E.g. - when gap closers were broken in IC I could use warden or sorc instead of templar.

I initially tried building with a Stamina or Magicka for each class. I do use them for daily writs when low on cash, but that is tedious at times and have found myself doing other gold activities lately (or staying broke).

List in sig with how I typically use them below. (2 of each class, with an extra DK.)

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

With the set collection system, the requirement for mules just got neutered.

I wonder what people are going to do with all their mules when they are in the unemployment line.

I'm hoping ZOS lets us merge 2 (or 3) characters together to make 1 robust character that has load out profiles, the option of 3 different racial passives, CP, Att loadouts and no longer requiring a shrine to change morphs.

Meaning, you can have 1 DK that could be a MagDK, StamDK, Tank, PVP loadout, Solo loadout.

3x daily writ cost, 3x reward.

Obviously some people want quantity, I prefer quality, 6 robust characters, 1 for each class, would make them more meaningful. Less relogging too. If most would use a system like this, it would contract the character server down substantially freeing up room for more character slots for other players that want more. Or a new class eventually.

All 18 of this one's alts are 7 prof master crafters. 6 are stam dps, of each class, 6 are mag dps, also of each class, and 6 are tanks. Since it has been made clear that they are not adding any more slots, this one has been having his magdps also level up in healing.

This one logs into every alt perhaps 5 days a week, if not more, for daily crafties and TG missions, and Karth plays at least 5 or 6 different alts every week doing actual content, such as dungeons, quests, or trials. Perhaps 14 of this one's 18 alts have done at least a few vet trials (at least in craglorn, which this one knows hardly count heh).

Mine all serve the following functions:

    -Writs
    -Storage
-Testing classes and builds that my primary doesn't have
-Roleplaying (I mostly just RP solo in my head, making ESO versions of my original characters and having them perform in-character during normal gameplay--this is my favorite use of alts)
-Farming quests for future events so if I don't have time to actively play, I can just turn in a relevant quest each day and still get my tickets. This is a lifesaver during the PVP events where I could spend all night trying to get anything done due to all the jerk players camping quest progress points. I have characters from each alliance sitting on town quests in Cyrodiil so I always have something to turn in, no matter who owns which town.
-For my "joke" characters: making players laugh at their names/outfits when we're waiting around at bosses or world events

I have 9 geared and ready for action. I play them all, though 1 of them I haven't been on in months, I feel like he's got kinks to work out and I haven't gotten around to it. Even he's not terrible though, mDk wearing BSW/SotS/Illambris, so could be much worse, I think his kinks are mostly on my end. The rest I've played on in the past couple weeks. I don't log into them all everyday, but when I do it's not just to do writs or for storage, I'm actually running content with them, vet dungeons, cyro, ic and BGs, as well various solo stuff.

I have 8 under 50, one of them is 48.5 and has cp160 gear waiting for him in a chest at home. I mostly chip away at these slowly. I'll log into one one day, do their writs, maybe a dungeon or two if they have any they still need the quest for, maybe run the undaunted or mage's guild delve daily or a BG. Then the next day I might do it with a different one. Eventually one will click with me and become my next project to focus on until they hit 50.

I enjoy theory crafting, all my characters start with a general theme in mind at creation, sometimes inspired by outside sources like other games or movies tropes, other times by things I saw in game and thought would be fun to build around. That theme evolves as I play around with them and try to make it work within the mechanics of ESO until I eventually have a solid idea of thier eventual build. That's when it 'clicks' and they become my focus.

They all play very different from each other giving me incentive to use them all. I even go so far as to try not to use the same set on more than one character, which makes building them fun since I'm always looking for new set combos to try. It helps that I mostly focus on PvP so I don't have to try and fit into the meta, it's just whatever gets me kills and keeps me alive.

    Same here... sorta.

I have 17 characters on my main account, all are 50 except for one that I like ... but it's just not been the right time for her.

I have a second account with currently 7 or 8 characters (heck I'm not completely sure) one is about 20th and has done the entirety of her leveling in the Wailing Prison. Another is a NB that I love the character, but struggled with the class. I will come back to her at some point. I think all the rest are 50th.

I don't use anyone as a "mule"; though now that I'm using Alpha Gear (PC NA so I can play with addons) I'm having each character keep a "full set" (full body, 3 jewelry and 2 "weapon slot's worth") of the sets they prefer. There is some duplication there, and there are a few sets that I am "collecting" but haven't worked a lot with (scathing mage is one).
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". This is exactly what I do. Keep a written list so I refer to for quicker time looking up who has what items. Looking very much toward the new sticker book idea. More excited for it then I should be but managing bank/bag space is just unfun and a pain in the @$$.

18/18 all maxed and leveled in all most skill lines. In fact, only 3-4 do not have all weapons lines maxed to 50. All have armor to 50 in all weights. Guild lines are at least level 10 except for two who are level 7 and 8 on mages guild but other 16 are level 10 mages guild. Alliance and support lines to level 10 as well on all 18. Bank/horse training/legerdemain maxed as well on all. 17 of the 18 where max vamps before they were gutted as well. Number 18 is a werewolf maxed out.

Also just finished research all crafting lines to 9 for each character but only one grand master crafter. Not doing the motif grind for each. Main is up to date as yesterday on all motifs release so far. My 2nd character does know over 25 full motifs.

Not planning on doing Scrying/Excavation on all 18 just my main which is maxed out. Psijic Order broke me doing it 18 times for about 3 hours each. Figure Scrying/Excavation would take 5 hours each and I am not doing that grind.

Would like to have 3 of each class but have 1 to many NB’s and templars. Wish I could class change one templar to warden (Only have 2) and one NB to a socr (only 2 here as well). Have not and will not delete a character just to change race because I have to much time invested into each.

Curious note is all have done the mages guild quest line on all 18 mostly for the few lorebooks you get doing the quest but only 2 have completed the fighters guild quest line.

Jesus, I play too much. All 18 get played not daily of course but over time they do. Even more insanity I wish they allow us to have 36-character total per account. 1 Stam dps, 1 Mag dps, tank, healer, 1 pvp stam, 1 pvp mag for each class or 6 for each class in game.

Be safe and have fun :)

I have 18 chars maxed out and fully geared and mount training complete. I like to play alot of diff roles and classes so i made alts for each. I have 4 tanks,4 healers and 10 dps( stam and mag for each class) with my tanks and healers also able to throw out some dps with gear swap.

It started out as mule for hoarding all my gear before craft bag came out, then slowly started to level them. I love being able to play basically any role or play style I want. Each is geared but the goal is to give each a pvp and pve set on hand, and when the set collections update comes out then i will really be able gear them all even better. 90% of my playtime lately has just been a nonstop grind for gear for all my chars, glad it will be nearly over.

I'm addicted to alts. I love leveling them and the sense of achievement as they gain skills.
