which pet would provide me the best heal for myself? I know both pets can heal, but what are your thoughts for pve?

For normal magicka builds, matriarch heal is the way to go.
Clannfear heal is only useful on some stamina builds or for tanks.

Surge. All you need. But keep your shield ready.
Matriarch can help with Oblivion damage or other mechanics, but most of the time it's just very expensive and unnecessary. I prefer Tormentor for extra damage (don't activate the ability, though).
If you're using Blood for Blood, use Degeneration alongside Surge. Usually enough to offset the health cost.

Matriach typically scale with high max magicka and spell damage, clanfear scale with max health. Check your build, if you have a high max magicka and spell damage, use clanfear. If you have a high max health, low magicka, or you are a stamina build, use clanfear. That being said, if use critical surge while you have decent critical chance, you probably do not need any pet heals.

So.. Use the Clannfear or Clannfear. Got it! I think that creature is really attractive anyway, so I certainly don't mind one as my companion.

As a PVE DPS, the only heal you should ever really need is from Crit Surge. Assuming you are spec'ed for magic dps and need a little more, twilight matriarch is the answer. Unless running backrooms in places like VMOL or VCR, you shouldnt need the matriarch. Surge and a shield is plenty for VMA or any 4 man content.

I'm sorry, that was a typo on the first part. If you have a high max magicka and spell damage, use matriach. If you have a high max health, low magicka, or you are a stamina build, use clanfear.

I hope this clears the typo.

You really dont need anything other than Crit Surge as a sorc. When in combat Im virtually invincible. Especially with a damage shield.

Id argue for pve, having a pet healer is overkill when you can use Crit Surge instead and gain more damage from a damage dealing pet.

Crit surge does fine on a sorc and is even better when coupled with a shield as @Grianasteri points out. Unless you are a healer I would not worry about the matriarch in most cases.

Clanfear for Tanks, heal scales off Max health, and the dragon/chicken will pull some aggro.

Matriarch and Power Surge for healers.

Crit Surge for DPS.

Don't forget Dark Deal/Conversion for resource management, it includes a heal, and activating any Dark Magic skill gives minor prophecy to the group.

Also, don't forget that you heal for 8% of your max health whenever you hit an enemy with any dark magic skill.

I use crit surge and the degeneration heal morph and it is more than enough for most things. Keep a shield on backbar for ohh sh— moments. Your crit should be >50% to do this. The higher the better.
