Hi, I am not seeing any recent discussions on this so starting a new thread. It is my understanding that maul is the best overall from a pure damage standpoint but I am wondering how much better it actually is than greatsword. I am trying out the new sword-singer and the ultimate and 5 seconds after maul provides zero benefit. That being said, I don't drop the ultimate every fight and will spend more time without the ultimate buff than with; in which case I am sure the maul is better.

I used to slot onslaught as well. I was using nirnhoned greatsword since I was getting penetration from ulti anyway. If you have decent crit you should try precise greatsword with shadow mundus.
Also using balorgh on onslaught build is wasted too fyi. But the other morph, berserker rage, combined with balorgh works quite well. You get penetration from balorgh and armor-immo from ulti, fun defensive/offensive ulti.

You kind of answered your own question. It really depends on your build, whats skills you use, and where your stats are lacking. For a dot build axes are great. For damage you have nirn and then mauls for penetration.

Like you said how often is your ult up? Is it worth losing the penetration for a small damage boost vs having the pen all the time? There is really no simple answer when it comes to pvp because the variables are constantly changing.

Personally i go with mauls since penetration is not affected by battle spirit and i can still hit 5-6k weapon damage. I run nma with spriggans and an additional 4700 penetration in cp and major breach for tankier targets.

Ultimately find what works best for your play style and don’t let people tell you that you have to run a certain set up.
