part of what made feeding useful was that it would heal, great for leveling as you could feed, kill enemies, stealth, repeat.
but now you cant do that unless you slot vampire drain because you do no heal in between enemies when feeding. this severely hinders the player needlessly :(

Because the ESO vampire is reverse vampirism. Instead of drinking blood to become more mortal blood is now like a poison/drug that destroys your body(increased damage from sources) and mind(increased cost to known spells). Advancing the stages is like an addiction that grows so strong that your body no longer heals on its own. They effectively gave us a blood fiend simulator.

umm...vampirism has always been a disease with severe drawbacks in the elder scrolls universe. For that matter, vampirism is presented as a disease in ALL fiction. How anyone could think it would be anything else when you are essentially turned into a bloodsucking tick is beyond me. There is nothing romantic or powerful about ticks. In fiction the only real advantage vampires ever had was eternal un-life.

it is not exactly per lore.

Book Vampires of the Iliac Bay, chapter II:

I also found my weaknesses. I could no longer stand the light of the sun -- exposure to it for longer than a few seconds burned me terribly. It also pained me to enter temples and other places of worship. The worst effect, of course, had to be my blood lust. If I did not kill a warm blooded creature once a night and drink its blood, my hunger would gnaw at me, and any wounds I suffered would not heal no matter how much I rested.

exactly, rested but the thing is ES lore has always given vampires absorb health effects built into their main "blood drain" feeding ability (morrowind has the feeding touch, oblivion feeding touch, skyrim that blood sucking beam that closely resembles drain life) yet all of them after drinking blood bar morrowind because that wasn't an option gave you health restoration after FEEDING because your siphoning the life of another creature for yourself.
no health regen from natural healing sure that i can get its very lore friendly but not healing from blood sucking defeats part of the lore of why vampires dont have natural regeneration

I felt quite powerful as a vampire in previous ES games and the drawbacks were more than manageable. I cannot say the same for the blood junkie ESO version. But have at it if it’s your cup of tea.

...but not healing from blood sucking defeats part of the lore of why vampires dont have natural regeneration
The problem is with the "condition", or "properties" of being a Vampire.
Healing means = restoring lost health, or negative health, etc...
Vampires do have hit points (health), but the current version prevents any health regeneration because, (ZOS)reasons.

    What the key distinction is:
    • Vampires have a Health-Pool
    • Vampires have a "Blood" Pool (not the same as Health-Pool, though if a living creature loses all it's blood it will die)
    • Vampires have a Stamina-Pool (Ridiculous really, since undead beings are not subject to metabolism, and should therefore never fatigue from any amount of physical exertion)
    • Vampires have a Magicka-Pool
    So what should happen is:
    1. Vampire suffers damage to Health-Pool, which does not regenerate based upon stages because, (ZOS)Reasons
    2. Vampire must spend (use) blood from their Blood-Pool in order to regenerate their health pool
However, as we are well aware, Vampires in ESO or in any Elder Scrolls Lore do not have a "blood" pool.
That and, in the world of Elder Scrolls, Magick is ever-present and used to cause changes in reality to produce just about any effect including the Vampiric "Drain" spell which is presumed to restore Health-Pool, not Blood-Pool.
But with both previous and newer versions of ESO's Vampire, feeding actually does drain the target of their blood, advancing a stage and now killing the target.
