Dye Station vs. Outfit Station

They both do the EXACT same thing right? Am I missing something? One is 35 master writs and the other is 500 master writs. Why in the world would one be soooo much more expensive?

    Dye station only dyes...it's what the "outfit station" originally was.
    Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
    Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
    Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
    Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

    Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
    House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
    Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    I believe it's all cosmetics. You're paying a ridiculous amount of writ vouchers for the "updated" appearance.

    IIRC they do the exact same thing however.

    I know the old ones which were purchased for 35 writs were upgraded if you already owned one. A new Dye station - has anyone actually purchased it recently (i.e. now that there are Outfit stations) and had it work for outfits.

    And if you are going to tell me that "the guild hall one works fine" most guilds have been around long enough that it's an old/auto-upgraded one, not a new one.

    I personally am not going to spend 35 writs to check this out.

    On the other hand, feel free to buy and gift me a "new" dye station, and I'll test it out, and post what I find. I'm on PC NA as @newtinmpls

    IIRC, I bought my dye station specifically to be able to set up lighting around it in my home, so it was after introduction of the outfit system and it works for outfits. But I may remember wrong.
    Tooltip says "and customize your outfits" though.

    They are the same. Just like the Provisioning stations work exactly like the more expensive Elsweyr model.
