Jewelry Crafting

I know this has been brought up over-and-over but will you EVER fix Jewelry Crafting? 40 Chromium Grains to upgrade one ITEM to GOLD that is outrageous especially with the drop rates!!! I have hundreds of Jewelry Writs I cannot afford to do! Please FIX it - Do AWAY with GRAINS, you can still make the gold plates a lower drop rate, but the GRAIN system was broken from the START!

    It's working as intended, @mrtrask23.

The easiest way to improve your jewelry materials is to do your daily writs on multiple characters.

Other players do it ... you can too.

If it was working as intended you would not take a net profit loss on almost every single Jewelry Writ you do! The materials cost far outweighs the benefit of doing the actual writ. You statement is just wrong and because you enjoy spending countless hours on multiple toons just to finish a simple writ does not mean it is 'Working as Intended" for other players!

I agree with writs not being tuned right.
I don't mind the price and effort required for golding jewelry though. Nobody needs gold jewelry, it's just extra.

    Writs are not great
    Grains are fine

If they were to do anything of the sort, they could probably remove Green/Blue grains, but Purple/Gold grains are there to compete with trial runners. Why bother running a trial for gold jewels if you had Gold Plates raining from the sky. Daily writs sometimes drop full Gold plates. You can still get them in abundance if you do your dailies and refine mats. It is only time.

I'm sure many are sitting on over 1000 of the other Gold mats, I'm sitting on about 150 Gold Plates. I sell about 4 full plates each week. I can gold 1 ring per week (some weeks, more) if I wanted to, that is fine how it is.

I have enough gold mats, but I don't have enough blues to do all the writs I have.

Exactly the same here, which is the reason why I delete all blue writs instantly. Yellow ones are rare enough, so I usually do them to get some more vouchers. This is probably not very cost efficient, but trying to sell gold platings hasn't worked too well so far. I guess that most people who do crafting writs on several characters are in a similar situation. Thus the only people buying gold platings are most likely those who really want to upgrade their characters' jewelry or others who don't care too much for the money and only want to do as many writs as they can.

I don't mind gold jewelry being hard to acquire...whether through crafting or PvP....however I believe that the stat increase from gold items should be higher. Right now the difference is marginal enough its not really worth upgrading from purple to gold.

For me it's not only gold grains that are pretty short supply, but the purple grains/platings. Gobs of green and blue platings....

"working as intended" (ha) Jewelry crafting is simply a ridiculously stupid grind (a major disappointment), the Chromium Grains drops you receive from refining materials (Platinum Dust) and deconstructing gold jewelry is incredibly low, anyone can compare this when refining Rubedite Ore, Rubedo Hide, Raw Ancestor Silk and Rough Ruby Ash to refining Platinum Dust.

I'm always stopping to harvest materials I come across while adventuring in Tamriel and I have a ton of Tempering Alloy, Dreugh Wax and Rosin but I'm always low on Chromium Grains/Chromium Plating. ZOS likes the fact that its a major gold sink (an important part of any MMO economy so they say) for players visiting vendors or time spent in game to farm the materials.

All ZOS needs to do is modify the RNG percentage a little more in favor of the player but they wont do it....all for the the ESO economy I guess. Whatever, its a constant thorn in my side really......

    You're definitely doing it wrong.

I make tons of gold from having all of my alts at max Jewelrycrafting and doing the right writs will net you a large profit versus the raw materials.

You really need industrial-scale commitment on your characters though; if it is only on your main then, I agree, you will never have enough.

I wouldn't say "wrong" ineffective method, Yes....but you definitely have a work around, I have one master crafter doing writs out of 19 characters (2 accounts) but if all I did was doing writs, I'd loose my mind ;) I don't mind the usually grind that comes with MMO's but this current method of jewelry crafting is too much for me, so I run around with purple jewelry. Besides, by the time I save enough to craft gold jewelry, they'd probably neuter the gear.

    ~ Cheers!

The jewelry writs are just bad compared to other writs the amount of resources needed to complete vs writ value.

And unless you’re running an airplane hanger full of alts with max jewelry crafting doing dailies religiously for months jewelry crafting prob won’t seem that useful.

What is outrageous is the small difference in stats between Purple and Gold. I have enough Gold Platings to improve 3 Sets of Jewelry, and I have not done one piece yet.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It's how Z wants it. We asked for a change, and they made a small change which made it slightly better. No more changes.

I don’t mind the jewelry grind being harder if sets stayed the same, but it’s infuriating when you upgrade to gold and then they nerf the set out of existence.

... IF you've bought the Platings Expertise passive skill and upgraded it to Level III; otherwise it takes 100 Chromium Grains!

@I_am_Groot I agree with your phrasing, 'wrong' wasn't quite the right word.

I really dislike doing writs as well, so my method is simply to pre-build a bunch of rings and necklaces on every character (as much as inventory permits since they aren't just mules, usually ~25 rings and necklaces each) and then just log in to them, pick up the writ quest and immediately turn it in for the grains.*

The time spent logging in is the largest single time-waster but with that method I can do them all in about ~20 minutes. Every other week or so it will take a little longer since I'll have to actually build more rings and necklaces, but that isn't so bad. Hopefully with the much-touted "Cold Storage" database update will cut down on some of the load times for characters.

*I say 'grains' but really you can get entire bars from the writ box. Several times over the last few of months, I've had 2X Chromium bars drop. If you are farming writs on all characters you will be able to upgrade to gold at least one piece per week. You will also receive giant materials boons whenever you get around to using all of the surveys that also drop from the boxes.

I've never seen a plating from the writ rewards. I wish....

It is pretty much this. Zos stated that they intended jewelry crafting to be more special than the rest of crafting which is why it takes much more time and effort to get the upgrade matts. So not broken.

In this case 'more special" == WAY less fun.
