material refining error

material refining is supposed to be 10 units per refinement when using the tool setting the quantity to 1 instead of 10 units used 20 are used with the outcome of 7-10 pieces of refined material, at a higher rate of refinement the ratio stays the same twice as much material is used. am I missing something here or is there an error in the refining process?

I'm not sure if I understand your question/doubt...

When in refinement, the number of raw mats used is always constant (1:10 ratio): each time you refine a raw mat you will spend 10 raw mats.
Eg: 10 refinements means will spend 100 raw mats, and so on.

The ratio of success is variable: -30% in the worst scenario, each time you refine a unit - 10 raw mats.

I understand that but when I refine the ratio is 1/20 not 1/10. when I use the refinement tool is I set it at 1 20 unites are used up not 10

the only one I can think of is "trait Buddy", ill check it out to see if it has any effect
