Im kind of hoping for correction, but more likely I think they tear things down even further to where it becomes a real scramble.

Of course; I could see the same logic here go toward housing of some sort to double down on just selling cash shop items to see if they can just survive on that and let combat rot.

I'd have done enough to get to the point that I am doing something I truly enjoy.

I'm always excited for new stories most of all. Preferably with a couple of old faces too.
For the rest of new content - I'm curious, of course, but that's it. For tweaks and fixes - as long as I can play at all, I'll adapt to whatever changes come.

I just wanna ride with the guys and get some Orange Mocha Frappachinos.

Hmhm, that's the obvious question, isn't it? And yes, just leaving would be the easy solution, wouldn't it? But, unfortunately, that's not how humans work.

Okay, so first, the investment. After five years and thousands of hours invested, not to mention the dedication, you are very cautious to just give that up. This is why people often cling to toxic relationships. Letting go, even though probably the best solution, also means throwing away all you've invested. No one wants that.
Next, competitors. Alternative MMOs. There are none. This doesn't mean ESO is better than the rest, the rest is just equally bad. I hear good things about FF XIV, but that's Sony-exclusive and I'm on XBox. Which has even less of an MMO pool than PC. So if I am forced to choose between faulty games, might as well pick the one I'm most familiar with.
TES connection. Short but important point. I love the Elder Scrolls franchise, all five main games. Having an MMO in the same universe is an immensely strong draw, as the RPG aspect works - I am already connected to my Altmer sorc from previous games. Neverwinter and Tera, for example, don't resonate with me.
And, lastly, hope. And FOMO. Even though there is no realistic reason to believe things'll get better, for the slight chance they WILL, you don't wanna miss out on stuff while you were away. Like missing a furniture, falling behind the curve because you missed a meta set when people farmed it, stuff like that. It's easier to keep the game on life support than to lament missing something.

So, that's why MMOs don't typically die in an instant. They wither away, slowly. For me, I am very dissatisfied with ESO, but value the few fun moments I can have with it. Smashing dungeons with friends and decorating my home keep me afloat, to be precise. I've kept the game in this state, on life support, for about one and a half years now and will continue to do so until something changes the situation so drastically there'll be no point in even that. I guess the arrival of Elden Rings might be that gamechanger, but we'll see if that game will be good.
All I can do in the meantime is to give feedback and try to help the devs improve the game, but it's pretty much futile. So, stuck in limbo for now.
