Regarding Animation Cancelling & Weaving

I think this is something a lot of people on the forums need to hear.

It's amazing how someone that has been playing ESO for like 2 weeks has a better understanding of the game & it's mechanics than people that have been making "REMOVE ANIMATION CANCELLING" posts for the past 5 years.

Eh, weaving as it is wouldn't be possible if you couldn't cancel the animations, dude is wrong, the 2 weeks of playtime shows

This clip does not really really give a lot of context, but it seems to me that he is talking more about the terminology established in the community then the exact technicality. Separating "weaving" and "animation canceling" is for the most part something the community has largely agreed on, but on a mechanical level both are a form of animation canceling, just a different one. So removing animation canceling from the game can also include removing weaving depending on the exact execution. If we are just talking about the canceling of skill animations, it should not affect weaving, but if we talk about animation locking for everything or GCD for everything it would remove weaving as well.

Saw him trying vma and I'd say that's pretty neat to see newer players actually getting how to perform and not complaining on forums about "bad combat system". Props to him on that.

Ye but then again he ragequit because he got the *** kicked out of him in cyro. Like what else do you expect after playing 2 weeks...
Also I saw a clip of him whining about how much smaller the dk shield is than the sorc shield.
So yeah, the understanding of game mechanics isn't that good either. ^^

[snip] It's Block Weaving, Not animation cancelling....

If you stop an animation early by any means to begin the next attack before the previous animation completes, that is canceling the animation.

I elect to call it Clara. Not weaving. Not animation cancelling. Can you measure now my understanding of the game please?

Weaving is animation cancelling, but animation cancelling is not weaving. Weaving is a specific form of animation cancelling, just like bash or block cancelling. We just decided to call it "weaving", probably because it felt nicer to say than "skill cancelling".

And since I like drama, I'll add on to this...

Animation Cancelling and Light Attack Weaving need to go away. It's inconsistent throughout the game, it's unintuitive, and accounts for far too much of a player's overall DPS.

Weaving occurs because la and skills are on seperate 1sec gcds. Animation cancelling is when you use a skill right after a light attack to cancel the rest of that la's animation(this is built in the in-game engine). So no, even if they remove animation cancelling, weaving will still be a thing, as long as la and skills are on different gcds. Animation cancelling and weaving are completely different things and not at all related.

You literally cancel the light attack's animation by casting a skill. There is no difference. All light attack weaving is animation cancelling. All animation cancelling is not just light attack weaving. Now remove both. /end.

They have made some nice changes to the animations though, so that LAs still visually connect now (most of the time) when you weave into a skill. And that was always my biggest issue with this game's concept of "animation cancelling" - that cancelling an attack still dealt damage even though it didn't connect with an opponent (clearly a dumb system). Now though, the LAs do still visually connect as you weave into a skill, so I've reached a point of not minding the system too much. I'll still continue to laugh at anyone who claims it's a sign of skill to press two buttons rather than one though
