To those who sell lockpicks for more than 9 gold: Why???

I truly want to hear the reasoning for this, because I'm at a loss why anyone thinks people would pay more than the game sells them for.

For those who do not know: every merchant in the game sells them for 9 gold each. You can save your gold now.

People need to make some spare coin, so selling them at 10gold per pick adds up when you sell 100 at a time

I've now resorted to posting chat messages: "Buying lockpicks at 1k per stack". I get 5 stacks instantly and save gold. :)

I want to know why people sell Potencies for 3 to 5 times the price you can buy them at an NCP Vendor.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I have been playing this game for 5 years. I have never once, ever bought a lockpick. I steal more than enough from drawers and furniture. My current thieving character has 250 from just stealing stuff.

    Why would anyone buy them?

The same people who buy soul gems instead of stealing them I guess.

Too slow at the rate I'm breaking safeboxes. I run to Bahara's Gloom daily and I get about 10 picks, but I break into around 15 chests when I do my crafting writs.

    I'm heading to a loss! ;)

Hey, I've got some lock picks I'll let you have for 20 gold! Deal of the day!

There's a running joke in my guild. If you ask for lockpicks in guild chat, your mailbox is going to be destroyed with lockpicks. I'm regularly destroying stacks, because the game just *hurls* lockpicks at you.

Its very simple, they are in guilds that damned X amount of gold sells a week, lets say the gold is 100k a week.

If I have 1k picks sitting around, that's 10% less I have to sell this one or I have to pay a fat fee.

Any gold I can get to reach the goal is worth it.

I tend to sell them in little stacks of 10 or 20 and I charge usually 3 or 6 gold.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I give them away if someone I know needs some, or sell them at a low price. Stacks of 50 for 2-3 gold each. Better than throwing them away.

I've never even thought to try selling lockpicks.

Mainly because I have so freaking many of them (several stacks of 200 in storage, plus near to 200 on all of my characters) that I have a very difficult time conceiving that someone would ever need to buy them.
I don't even bother to pick them up anymore, and I destroy the ones I get in chests and troves.

But thanks for the idea. I could use the inventory space.

I bet most people don't know the NPC prices for most of that stuff, because we're so conditioned to go to guild traders when we need to buy things (and much of what NPCs offer is grossly overpriced compared to prices in guild traders, so we learn early on to ignore them). So on PC, at least, people list things based on MM and TTC data and don't even think about visiting NPC vendors to see what they carry and how much they charge. If your data shows you that people will buy lockpicks for 10g, or enchanting runes for however much, why would you not list yours at that price? Especially if you don't have all of the relevant NPC prices memorized to use as a price ceiling?

I see lots of folks selling basic style materials (bone for Wood Elf, moonstone for Khajiit, etc) for more... sometimes way more... than the 15g you can buy them from a vendor for.

Blows my mind. I can only assume they either do not realize you can purchase these from an NPC vendor and are pulling them outta their craft bag and listing for whatever... or they are trying to purposely prey upon buyers who do not realize you can buy these from an NPC vendor for 15g per.

And this is on PS4, so it isn't about hitting a weekly sales requirement for any trading guilds here. We can't track individuals' sales, so anything mandatory comes in weekly flat dues like "pay 15k weekly" rather than sales requirements like "sell 100k weekly or pay X amount in dues for falling under sales requirement".
