Would I be stupid to use a Gamepad on PC, or is it viable?

Controler got enaught button to normal play, skill, switch bar, potion, horse etc. and much more, it's much better move then mouse and keyboard (better control where to move)... not everyone can play good on keyboard sooo if you like PAD go for them... i play ESO on PS4 (friend account) and my PC, the same class and almost same skill, play on PAD was much easier.

I can only play with a controller/gamepad UI. People say it's a disadvantage, and the camera rotation is annoyingly slow, but I don't mind, and I like the UI more than the m/k UI (even though some elements overlap). I'd say give it a try OP if you already have a controller.

ESO is not a reflexive FPS game requiring l33t flick headshots and uber-high accuracy, so gamepads will not offer any less than a keyboard + mouse combo can in regular ESO gameplay outside of quality-of-life things such as quicker menu access.

Some of the top players here in ESO use a gamepad, and as long as you still have a keyboard in reach for quickly accessing certain menus and keybinds (especially for addons), you will not be hindered at all.

My wife uses an xbox elite controller while playing on PC. She usually games with a controller except on games where you really can't. I usually use keyboard/mouse when gaming except for some sports games.

Keyboard is better for things outside of game play imo. Like using the text chat and various other interfaces within the game. For game play however, they are pretty much the same. There probably isn't really any difference. I like using mouse and keyboard over controller.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the gamepad itself. Unfortunately the problem is the UI.

That was what got me off my Xbox controller and switching to my Razer Naga.

MMO mouse is your best compromise for a long-term gamepad user IMO. Trust me, it is exactly why I use one for all games, not just MMO's.

I have a couple of issues with a controller: I have to click the left stick three times to sprint more often than not (same on the Xbox and with different controllers) and you can’t select different characters with it. It still suits me better than k/m.

I started playing the game with a controller, but now I use a combination of both controller & kb/m depending on the situation

    1. Controller when doing serious combat stuff such as dungeons, trials and pvp (in combat)
    2. KB/M when doing overland content such as story, writs and other random things. KB/M is way easier in many of these situations, I have a key bind which lets me switch between controller & kb/m so I make good use of it

You don't even need a key bind for it. I have mine set to "Automatic" so the UI automatically changes itself based on whatever source the input is coming from.

Damn I hope you can recover swiftly! :)
Good to hear you can still play the game in spite of your injury.

Awww....thank you!!! Trying to get the bones to heal back together without surgery. We'll see what the x-rays show next appointment. Sledgehammers can really eff your hand up if you swing hard enough....
