With talk about the new group mount, and even discussion of flying mounts, can we talk about something else that is missing? Combat while mounted!
Why isnt it a thing? Can it be a thing? I personally think it SHOULD be a thing. How would you like to see it implemented? Or would you, even?
I don't think it needs to be anything crazy, or elaborate. Maybe only allow the use of weapons while mounted? PvP-wise, any grounded players would have access to their skill bar, giving them the better advantage. Maybe even add a penalty for "falling off your mount" while in combat, a very short stun period, where you get off the ground.
Overland, it would make venturing through hostile territory less... idk... annoying? Lots of us just run straight past monsters because we don't want to deal with them. But if I could flip around backwards on my direwolf and shoot my bow at the monsters chasing me?! I would engage with overland monsters much more often. So how do we make this happen?
1) Weapons cannot be used while sprinting.
2) Players, and monsters, need to be able to separately target players vs mounts.
3) Either only allow players to face forward, or animate a short jump where players will flip around and ride backwards if they aim backward.
4) You cannot use abilities, or maybe they can only be used while standing still? Maybe only class abilities?
I miss shooting my bow while mounted (Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Skyrim) and I've always felt like ESO would work well with mounted combat. Our characters already rotate their waste when running/walking during combat, so why can't we do it on our valiant mounts?
