Are we ever going to get the ability to scan learned furniture plans and see the 'finished' product?

We used to have the ability to see what a product would look like before crafting it, but they closed that API and the add-ons that let us preview stopped working.

It's just stupid that we can't see what something will look like before crafting it.
I'm not a completionist, I don't want to load up my learned recipe pages cache with stuff I don't ever want to actually make, because scrolling thru pages of mystery crap is too freaking annoying, and time consuming, so I just don't bother to learn most stuff based solely on the name of the recipe.
I just want the option to learn stuff I'm actually willing to make.

No, those tiny thumbnails on the recipe just don't cut it.

Weak rant, I know, but it annoys me no end.

Sure, if I want to scan thru my list and compare what I have to what they might have listed.
But thats still a multistep process with additional open app windows in a browser to view my available items, and a big time waster when I just want to craft some stuff to put in my houses.

We had the ability to see what our recipes would make just by scrolling our list of known recipes.

    Now we don't.

I'm confused. Please correct me if I'm misreading here, but you seem to switch between talking about previewing furnishings you have learnt (which you can do at the crafting station, but am understanding that maybe you wish it would be one list rather than checking each individual station), and wishing for the ability to see what a furnishing looks like BEFORE learning it (which I really wish we could). You say known recipes/plans, but then say that you want to avoid learning plans you'll never make anyway.

    What am I missing?

I'm talking about both of them, because either one being implemented would reduce the annoyance of the other, but as it stands, both avenues are blocked in game.

There used to be several addons that let us see what a furniture recipe would craft as a finished product.
And we used to be able to see what a crafted item would look like by hovering over the recipe or the list of learned recipes.
The addons lost the ability to query the game and show what stuff would look like by hovering over the recipe before learning and by hovering over the list while at a crafting station.

I don't want to jam up my learned recipe lists with stuff I wont ever want to craft because it makes finding what I want to craft more difficult without a visual representation while standing at the station.

There is a significant number of furnishing recipes in the game.
I can't be the only master crafter in the game who feels this way, there have to be many master crafters in the game who can't possibly have every item's picture memorized and associated with a 'name'.
    • I don't want to have to learn junk recipes so that I can craft them just to see what they look like.
    • I don't want to have to scan through a list of learned junk recipes to find the items I want to craft that are buried in long lists of stuff I never intend to craft.
    • I don't feel WE should have to ALT-Tab back and forth between the game and a browser window over and over while standing at a crafting table trying to find the particular furnishing we want to craft for housing when the game could just show us while standing at the table, or while standing in a house deciding which piece to craft for a location. As above, it becomes a more annoying task when the recipe list is bloated with furnishing recipes that a crafter doesn't want to ever craft.

To look up the design and see if its something I'm likely to make, then look at the MM price and see if I bother selling it instead. Now then you craft you get an preview who works well.

That makes me feel better about being confused then. :'D
While I personally enjoy feeding my crafter any recipe I possibly can, I do agree that previewing an item from a recipe should have been a feature in the first place.
The crafting station thing still makes less sense for me though. I pretty much always browse through my furniture in preview mode, barely looking at the names at all. I don't understand what significant change there would be if the preview appeared from hovering over the name, rather than being a giant preview on the left. Why do you not consider this feature to be a visual representation? Does it not do exactly what the part in your list that I bolded is describing?

I must be doing something wrong, then, because I don't get a preview on the left.
Add-ons used to do that, but the add-on authors stopped updating the add-ons with the explanation that since the API changed - they had to harvest the preview pix from the game, to keep the database working, and they just weren't going to do it anymore.

To be a little more clear - the preview used to work for me in the same way that clicking on a recipe in the master writ turn-in vendor still shows what a crafted item will look like.

Again, thats a lot more ALT-Tab manipulation to see which lamp or candle or misc item to craft to outfit multiple houses.

Using add-ons is acceptable in game, having to keep swapping back and forth for views that have to be typed in and searched for is a PITA, and more so if someone hasn't uploaded a pic of the item to the mmo-fashion site.

I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, so please forgive me, but it just doesn't have to be this annoying or take this much work to see something in the game that the game supplies in the database.
Especially since it did work, and they decided to make a change to stop the info from being available.

(I have to edit so often because I type to the forums on a separate computer from a different location when not playing, and I just can't type worth a damn on the laptop KB.)

So I just logged into the game to test this because I figured maybe it was always an Add-on all along and I just haven't tested it since the API change. :D Really thought maybe I've been talking out of my own ass there. But no, it still works for me.
I use the crafting station, go to the furnishing tab, and then press T. At the bottom of the screen it says [T] Preview, which switches to [T] End Preview as you toggle it. It displays the finished furniture item on your left, let's you turn it around, toggle light/effects on or off, etc. Normal furniture preview stuff. As long as Preview Mode is toggled on, going through the list on the right keeps showing you the different items. No need to do it for every single one.

    Yup same here.

And as of yesterday I also have this ability when looking in guild stores to see what potential furnishings look like.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    Any time @BisDasBlutGefriert

Now that I've got furnishings on the brain, I've been making a list of nifty things that I totally need for my "pirate" character.

Starting (of course) with the Pirate Banner achievement furnishing from Betnikh
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
