Fellow tanks, how are you able to see anything when you have 4 pets and 2 orbs on top on Boss?

Hi, returning player here.

I usually play tank in vet dungeons and it is being difficult sometimes because the tons of pets and orbs that other players pop on bosses. Yesterday, I had two ultimate pets (sorcerer and necro), small pet of sorcerer, some big nasty pet of someone's monster set, blue orb. I ended tanking ranged with an ice staff, but sometimes I needed to be close to the boss and I had the impression that shield blocks better. I tried turning the camera on full zenithal, but I cannot see all the Bosss animations that way.

In other games, pets spawn and attack the back of the mobs so I haven't had this problem before. Here, they see to spawn on Boss' nose and attack always frontal.

I appreciate any tips.

Cheers!

some big nasty pet of someone's monster set

    Cheers!

That's Timmy aka maw of the infernal. And yes it's a pain as it spawns directly in front of you. But it's also pretty good dps if you stack mag. I just move round about 90 degrees and it's ok.

The other pets you just get used to. Tormentor/matriach is ranged so not a problem, the scamp is only knee high, it's just the bear that can get in the way. Oh and the necro ulti. That's insane.

I'd agree though, there's a ton going on on screen sometimes and it's hard to see ***. I've often thought about turning settings down, but not sure which does what and I inly tank occasionalyl now. Would miss the fireworks the rest of the time. I gues if in doubt, block!

I couldn't imagine tanking something like vSO or vHOF with all the fireworks going off, AOEs, and the pets.

Yeah, but then again I also am able to counter NBs gank attempts before I ever see them just by guessing when I will get ganked and gut feeling...

When obscured or too many crazy things happening, stick to the basics only... blocking, taunting, debuffing and heavy attacks. Take a couple steps back to see if you regain sight. Also try fighting with your back to a wall, that often forces the camera to move closer to you and may help or hinder.

Tell them to drop the Sorc Ultimate Attro near them so they can access the synergy. It's ranged, so it really should not be in your face as the tank.

Ditto with most, especially orbs; only when I started playing as a tank did I modify my healer's orb input to off-centre - orbs in the face are s-l-o-w blindness.

I find the spawning deadroth to be worst offenders as they appear literally right in your virtual face. Suggestions by @Larcomar et al are all good - I prefer the 'when in doubt: block' approach.

But it is awkward when a tank has to watch out for 'friendly fire' too.

Because nothing gets past my Sharingan.

Nah I just rotate my camera or change my view so I can see what's going on; I don't usually have issues with it unless I'm in a very cramped space and that doesn't seem to happen often enough. Untaunted is about all I need to keep track of what I'm doing when I tank.

If you mean ground effects and such I changed mine to be bright blue/pink because nothing in the game I've ran into uses those colors outside of water, here's an example below taken in broad daylight just to give an idea of how bright these effects are.

To many boss abilities/player abilities have a "red" glow on them so the "stay out of red" logic didn't really work all that well for me.

Was tanking vCR yesterday and oh boy... we had like 4 or 5 maw of infernal in the group. Tanking the main boss is fine (she is big enough) but the side bosses... no chance. You stand there with 4 daedroth blocking your view (plus other things like necro ult etc.) and the bad part is: The daedroth are bigger than the side bosses... so no chance of rotating the camera so you can see again. Plus, the daedroth stand all around the boss because they usually don't stack on each other. Without addons like combat alerts its pretty much impossible to know when they charge a heavy attack...

Sure, I'll just stand there doing the absolute minimum and beeing in perma block but that is just no quality of life. it sucks.
There needs to be an option to turn off other players combat pets.

You don't get to see anything. Playing a magicka Sorc tank with twilight and lightning backbar, with two magicka Sorc DD's using lightning, and a healer also using lightning.. I've had that blinding experience once before and my eyes had to suffer through it all because that's just a tanks' life.

They liked to drop ultimate right on me because it does damage to enemy, and I'm always having to move away from it to see what little I could.

That’s why I have so much respect for tanks.

Last night we were rolling through Cloudrest with our Templar assassination squad. The pets were less a problem compared to the overall blindness from the bling bling. At one point I hear the main tank talking to the off tank, “Can you see anything, because I can’t see anything?” “Nah man I’m gonna stand behind you in case but just keep stabbing the boss and whatever happens, happens!”

At some point the main asked us to hold ULTs for execute phase. Fortunately the DPS was very high so it wasn’t an issue, but I think I’m still a little blind myself from all the action last night.

You can hard target the boss so you can always see that outline.

I have noticed this issue lately too. Imagine how bad it would be if we could still see everyone's AoEs.

Thank all you for the good ideas. The "Hidegroup addon" is really funny :-P

With ground effects, I do not have issues. Maybe because my monitor is not too big (standard 21.5") and it has good adjustment of bright and contrast. I will try to change the colors anyway and see if it helps.

Crowded pets/ orbs are sometimes a problem because I do not know by heart all the bosses.
    - Guessing and blocking all the time is an option, but l think is less fun. Moreover, sometimes I dodge instead of block to avoid death AoE or heavy attack.
    - Rotating my position does not solve anything most of the times when all is crowded. If there is only one or two pets and no melee player, it works. Else, not.

    Cheers all.

I wasn't trying to be funny. It is a great add-on. Only problem with it is when you have a group member getting knocked back, then I get screen freezes, but that doesn't happen in 95% of game content.

Some add ons tells you when boss do heavy attack or certain attack. You can basically react to boss without even seeing the boss. If you won't use add ons or still struggle, you can alway repostion yourself abd the boss for better view, or use first person view. I personaly used first person view quite few times in situtions where visual is not possible in 3rd person.

Zooming the camera out more and tilting it up to get more of a top view helps me. It's a compromise because I prefer keeping my view closer to the action on tank than I do in other roles, but if all else fails it's my go-to.

No, I'm sorry I have to totally disagree.

    That's Dave

One of the many Dave's that we know

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

A common issue when tanking, especially in trials!

Basically you don't see a lot of the time. You work on instinct, experience and repetition of your rotation. There are absolutely been times when I literally cannot see anything, and I am simply executing a rotation that makes sure taunts & debuffs/buffs are kept up.

There is something quite comical about this situation when it happens.

The thing is that in WoW rotating the camera and zooming out worked for me.Besides, many times I just needed to wait for a certain mechanic to pop a CD in between a defensive rotation. I find that ESO is more dynamic and if I totally zoom out, I end moving or rolling in the wrong direction.
