Dual Personality Gear Sets

OrionPriest
I'm looking for some gear set recommendations for a Nord Warden tank, who also solo's (Quests, Delves, Public Dungeons) a bunch as a wanna-be Stamina DW DPS. Ideally I don't want to carry around 2 full gear sets and do a 100% swap of 14 items each time but I'm thinking it might be the best way.

Currently I'm wearing a full set of Ebon + Torugs with Tremorscale monster set, and swapping Torugs for Hundings when I'm soloing (I like to keep my health high and the floating red globes). But I'm looking for other suggestions. Still new-ish (CP 250) and just starting to get into DLC (Cleared Unhallowed last night for the first time due to a very nice PUG) and Vet dungeons. I can't even spell Trial or Maelstorm yet......

What suggestions do you have?

Just to clarify before I answer.

You are wanting to do overland content while still being a meaty tank correct? Not switching out for damaging medium sets/magicka sets?

I want to minimize the amount of gear changes needed to bring my Stam DPS up a bit (and I realize it'll make me a bit less meaty) so it doesn't take me 10 min to kill a overland boss solo. Currently I'm doing that by swapping one set (5 peices - Torug to Hunding and equipping DW) I'm just curious if there are other suggestions.

I know the most optimized answer is a full gear swap, I'm just lazy :) and seeing if anyone has an idea I haven't thought of.

It's a somewhat silly setup and not that much more damage but my tank will usually use Leeching Plate which is relatively good anywhere for a tank. If I'm running around questing on him I'll usually use Frozen Watcher with Swarm Mother so it pulls everything to me and gets hit by the ice swarm + leeching.

WB's I'll just swap out Swarm Mother for Maw of the Infernal for the extra DPS; it'll hit hard and be up relatively often more than enough to notice the difference. Then I can just spam block/LA when I want and get resources back when I need em while still not really paying attention.

Eternal Guardian on both bars for extra DPS as well, Gripping Shards for a bit more. And just puncture/low sweep/la with whatever supportive abilities you want to take that you like. Frozen Watcher adds around 2k single target dps while Maw will add I think 4k or so when it's up.

Interesting idea pushing the passive AOE DPS. Thanks!

Have your tank sets and add a medium pure damage set in your inventory. When you decide to play solo overland, switch to medium.

You can buy cheapish dd sets that are not BiS. Divines are not must have, actualy they give less dps with a tank's mundus.

Thanks I have a crafting alt so I can craft most sets, I crafted the Hunding's I'm using when I switch gear. Would Ancient Dragon guard be a second good one, I have half a set of spriggans and gryphons ferocity that I need to complete.

I can suggest considering werewolf form. That way you can keep all the meta tanking gear on you and just jump into ww for soloing, it should give you enough damage for overland.

    Can confirm.

It's just 1 skill you have to change and ww gives no disadvantages outside of ww Form. Base dmg is high, a lot of aoe hard hitting single target skills and with increased magicka pool u can heal enough.

The WW thing sounds like the best option or you could try....

I picked up a full set of Leeching last night in ICP so I'll give that a try. I've never tried WW (or Vamp for that matter) so maybe I'll look into that.

I like the xynode build, it's another twist on @Kittytravel AOE focused damage from gear sets concept.

If you aren't tanking Vet DLC dungeons, you could probably get away with a DPS build (maybe use health enchants on armor) and just set your back bar up for tanking with sword and board and defensive skills. Front bar DPS and solo play, back bar, up to medium level tanking. I do that all the time when I'm leveling tanks no matter what class they are.

I like Leeching Plate, think its an all-around solid set for dungeon tanking. But I think you should check out Bani's Torment, a heavy set from Icereach. Maybe pair it with Ancient Dragonguard, like you said. The damage set is going to be the tougher one. My first inclination was to pair it with Briarheart. Splits the difference nicely between stamina pool and damage that a tank and DPS can use.

Would Leeching pair well with Azureblight for proc damage? Between the plate, and DoT skills (Gripping Shards, Fletchr Infection, Polar Wind, Arrow Barrage, and Caltrops) I think there may be enough DoT to proc azureblight frequently enough to be fun.

It's a similar thought to the Xynode build but using Leeching instead of Frozen watcher. What would a good DoT Monster set that would go with that theory?

Id recommend Bahraha's. Beats out leeching plate for both damage and heals unless you've got a lot of mobs on you, and purchasable from guild vendors.

Id suggest grothdar as monster helm - useful in any melee range situation. I like it tanking as it helps on trash packs and is another damage tick for agro.

Just use an addon like alphagear to change your whole build (skills and gear) with the press of a button
