So, haven't been playing the game for about 6 months now. Just returned and learned that animation cancelling is mostly dead. What is considered high dps now that animation cancelling is not a big part of rotations? Is it still about the same or is there a significant drop?
I've been trying to do block cancelling like before on some skills like, Endless Hail, Hurricane, but didn't work. Is there some kind of guide for new mechanics out there?
If by optimal you mean the best players in the game playing the best builds you're looking at 100k+.
However, realistically an end game player looking to do HM DLC trials, etc. should be aiming to push 80k+ on the trials dummy, anything above that is gravy

20-25k on 4kk dummy, self parse. Imo. Bufs will come from group, not much, probably will get you to 30k, which is enough for most vet dungeons. The rest is mechanics.
For vet trials i would say 30-35k+ and from this point DPS measured as the bigger, the better.

Afaik nobody block cancels these skills ever, not in a PvE rotation. The whole "animation cancelling" in PvE is merely stopping light attack animations with a skill press, called weaving.
In most content doing the mechanics, prioritizing targets and not dying is more important than static DPS. But I would say 35-40k self buffed and self sustained on the 6m dummy is decent. Or 60-65k on the 21m - that throws shards so you don't need to break up your rotation to heavy attack, and it has most group debuffs on it.

20-25k individual dps is more than enough to clear any vet DLC content, provided you can stay alive and follow mechanics. Higher dps will only help your group have more chances to skip mechanics and not wipe.
