ESO main page performance worse than the game itself

Going into ESO's main web page (https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/home) causes insane drain on computer's resources.

With just Vivaldi running with one tab:

With Chrome:

I don't know what kind of nonsense was added to the site, but I can't even scroll properly though it anymore. Even blocking some of the elements like that auto-playing video in the background does not help the situation much.

Here's task manager with ESO running for comparison:

I'm no computers expert, but I'm pretty sure that page should not be doing that.

The ESO main page is composed of node interfaces and yes, it's very poorly optimized.

Firefox usually has less memory issues. I'm sitting at a comfortable 21 MB memery usage at maximum.
That doesn't mean the page doesn't have issues.
A single resize+scroll event (caused by ctrl&+ for example) takes up to 50ms of processing time, which is absolute bananas.
