Homestead Character Pathing? Yes please!

So I just saw this in the upcoming patch notes...

"Homestead Character Pathing:

With the addition of Character Pathing to the Housing system, you can build paths for your abode’s many residents (including pets, mounts, and assistants) to follow. You can specify many locations (nodes) for each path, and pick their walk speed, add delays, and even decide whether they loop through to their original location, ping-pong back and forth along the path, or travel between nodes at random. With this new addition, your homes will feel more alive than ever before!"

Yes!!!

This has been a big request for quite some time and I believe an awesome QOL addition for housing.

No longer will we have to watch our poor mounts, pets and assistants be anchored to the ground like sad sacks!

I also like to see that they've not just "called it a day" with housing! First big change was the addition of the "fine tuning" options for placing items to now this!!!

Gotta give props where due....

Excellent job ZOS! Thanks you for another awesome housing addition!

This makes me so happy. Finally something to make our houses feel more alive and less empty of life!

I hope they will soon add various placeable npcs aswell, to go along with this.

They also mentioned something in the livestream about new "houseguests." (Collectible? Rewards? Purchaseable? I watched the whole thing, but may have missed a couple of details.)

"Houseguests will also be added. They’ll be collectible characters that you can include in your house to grant it more life."

That's the exact quote they gave so while there isn't anything concrete we can assume we will see the additions of NPC to collect either through Crown Store or more ideally maybe through old quests we've completed; maybe those people we saved in all those zones end up wanting to live with us.

I have been planning for a while to make a kind of live carousel thing using all the Indrik that I have. Now that they will be able to walk in a circle I guess I should quit planning and do it. The carousel is going to be part of an outdoor bazaar I kind of sorta have a little bit laid out. Just gotta start placing stuff.

I would also like to see the addition of a guestbook.

Just a book we could place somewhere in the property that we could look at and see a list of who's visited and when and maybe how long they hung about.

It'd be nice to see how much all your hard work making a beautiful property is being visited/appreciated while you're offline or running about in Tamriel.

Seeing that they are, in fact, updating the housing experience, it gives me hope that we'll one day see this added as well.

NPC's can already interact with doors, so the assistants and "houseguests" shouldn't have a problem (though I imagine ZOS will only allow this pathing to be either "all" indoors or out) thus not having to deal with this.

    The pets/mounts...

well, most don't have opposable thumbs so I don't imagine doors are gonna be an issue for them as they don't use them anyway.

    My guess: Crown store.

It would be nice though, to have some guards patrol in front of my mansion, just for decoration.

Sadly, it's what I guess aswell. But it would be nice, along with some servants. So weird not having personnel in the mansions.

I've wanted a guest book for a while now with an option to allow guests to leave a short note. I usually suggest this along with a drop down menu that would be attached to each house when you got to maps then homes. To access the menu right click on the house name and it would give you a short list of players homes you can port to and visit. The names would be random so each time you access it you get different options. Players would have to opt in for their homes to be on the list.

Perhaps pets and mounts (and merchants/bankers) could be given a "wandering circle" where they are able to move around and perform their actions - have it so you could see the circle outlined while placing them in the house, and it would be up to players to place them appropriately (using the outlined circle as a guide) so the npcs could move freely.

    Would this be possible?

Would really like to see the placed pets and npcs showing a little life.

    Better yet. . .

It would be nice to be able to select the npc/pet and then select "record" (or some button of that ilk) and then while holding the object... walk the path you wish the npc/pet to follow! Once you've "pathed" the course to your liking, place the npc/pet down and it will follow that course, stopping at intervals to emote, etc., until it is removed or edited!

This would give the houses life as these things would be moving about the property and whenever you arrive would be at different places all the time. These things just standing rigidly stationary is off-putting and not very realistic of what they should/would be doing naturally!

They're even calling it "Pathing"... sweet!

So now we kinda know about how long it takes to implement a thing in the game! lol

That's unlikely to happen, but it would be so cool if guest "furnishings" could be NPC we actually met and not just some new characters. Just imagine, you come home and...

I hope the pathing will allow walking along made structures, so if we have built a staircase, or multiple levels, for eg., they can walk there as well.

Some months ago, someone suggested you should be able to put your other chars in your home as "guests". I'm not sure what to think of that though. Seeing them idling around would be one thing, but if they don't react on you at all (just continue what they are doing and ram you when you stand in their way), it would feel a bit weird and unrealistic, actually.

From NPCs, I would exspect that they give some random comment or greeting (as it is with regular guards when you try to talk to them), but getting a random voice and random lines assigned to player chars... I'm not sure about that. I have an exact idea how my chars sound and what they would say or wouldn't say, and I think I'm not the only one (which probably is why the player char is not voiced in dialogues?). So - yeah, what is it for when they just walk through the house like ghosts? I have the same problem with AC games: Masses of people but not interactable, like a cardboard backdrop. It's immersion-breaking for me.
