That all you need to know about questers, PVE-ers and their etiquette. Any moment when they see they have higher numbers, they will attack you.

I've been on some guild runs and every time the leader tells us not to chase because a solo enemy is often trying to split up the group and isolate a few at a time and/or lead them into an ambush a bit further along.
And Vlastarus might be considered a default AD town, so they might have been trying to protect it so other AD questers can use it for the event. And in the end they were right because you did take Vlastarus.
Don't think you can play the victim card here.

You know; I've killed players and I have gotten hate tells and that just encourages me to troll respond and laugh. I gave had responses where someone asks me a question like " does vamo ult make you see stealth" and I just respond "I dont know but detect pots in mist form does" or just "what's that glow," "good fight" "damned this lag" and we have a friendly exchange.
It's really about attitude. If they initiate with a bad attitude; that's just what they are. No need to sweat about it any more than that.

Didn't happen this event but a couple of quick stories.
Was fishing Imperial City to get the achievement. Saw an enemy player run by and he saw me. He kept going so I thought that was nice. Then he came back with three friends. I got two of them before I died though.
The other one from last year I was farming Tel Var and came across two enemy players. They just stood and watched as I was fighting some evil doers by a chest. I kept an eye on them expecting an attack but they didn't seem interested. As soon as I went to pick the lock on the chest they tried to jump me. They died. I'm not real good at solo PvP so they had to be PvE'rs.
Okay three stories. Another I was fighting creatures in Imperial City and an enemy player jumped in intending to join me in the fight. Unfortunately he joined in after I put down AoE and he ran right into it. He assumed I attacked him and attacked back. After he died he messaged me asking why I attacked and I had to explain to him even though we were working together to bring down the same things our AoEs would still cause damage on each other. He had no idea that was the case. Worked out okay he understood after I explained it.

That could be due to them suspecting you may be planning to attack them cause I've seen a lot of pvpers targeting pvers and ganking them and to the point of even got zergs going round attacking the alliance with highest pop in imperial city then taking all their spawn points and camping their exit to kill them off that it's gotten to the point that most will just expect you to attack them. I actually got a hate whisper from one of these after he died. I've had failed gankers who got upset. But some who were in powerful gear or full on zerging the map somehow even with lower pop than the alliance with highest though the high one was mostly pvers I tried moving to another alliance map that had higher and mostly pvers and tried waving to some and most of them when they realised I wasn't trying to attack left me alone some attacked before I could make it clear I didn't intend to attack but I didn't try to kill them just got away. But I think the point is it's gotten to the point of some many targeting pvers and even before the event many on this forum were bragging about how they'd do exactly that so now most pvers expect other alliances to just attack them cause well...most have been doing just this.

Some chests are near delve bosses so you need to kill them. He would engage the boss and someone from his own alliance would sneak in and take the chest. That's just a crappy thing to do imo.

Sounds like your friend is trying to get The Heartland. That is dropping everywhere in Cyro and IC. I got mine from an IC District boss.
