Loot Crates - Spend $150 = Pick a mount

As title says.

When you drop $150 on crates - you get a prompt that allows you to pick any mount. Except for the 3 shiny ones with laser eyes.

You can still get the rewards per usual from however many crates you buy, but there should be a failsafe.

As a wise man once said; (I believe under legal duress in fact) - "I spin more rhymes than a lazy susan, and I'm innocent until my guilt is proven."

You can already do that. It’s called “spend crown gems you get after opening $150 worth of loot boxes.”

Yeah, that's kind of the idea behind gems and similar currencies in other titles. It's a stopgap so you can get the specific item you want without spending thousands of dollars hoping to get it by random chance.

Would be ALOT less of a scam if people could chose, when oipening a crate, whether they want to activate the reward or trade it for gems. Because I sure as heck don't give a rat's bottom about any camel mount I'd be unlucky enough to get, or that emote, or that ugly skin...

If you could just say "no thank you, I'll have gems instead", you could get what you actually want faster, still with the nice feeling of opening a gift instead of a ripoff mechanism. And it might even be more profitable for ZOS, as people might actually consider buying those more often.

But it’s a loot crate. They work the same as in any other game that has them. As @HappyTheCamper said, if you’ve spent an inordinate amount of money on them, you should already have enough gems to take your pick of the available mounts by trading the rewards for gems.

So you're really ok with a virtual mount that has no additional perks besides it's looks costing $150? No wonder the crate scams continue [snip]

I have seen so many peple on that amazing radiant apex mount... I actually.shudder to think how much money they had to spend to get it 🤭

I did spend my monthly crowns on 4 crates this month, but I wouldn't pay more than that. Like it has been said, it offers nothing to your actual gameplay. They have done an amazing job on the cosmetics this time a round though 👍

Disclaimer: This post is not directed at anyone or a reply to anyone including, but not limited to, any posters in this thread, forum, or general community. All instances of "you" are general uses of the word. This post is intended to provoke thought into how you might view a situation such as crown crates and how you might want to try to view that situation from a different angle.

Just because someone sells something doesnt mean you are entitled to own it. If you play games of chance expecting to win, you will always be disappointed. If you think people/companies should change the rules for you, you are being naive. If it REALLY bothers you that there are things in the crates that you must own but you cant afford to spend the unknown amount of money to obtain them, then the problem isnt the crates. It is an issue on your side and you should talk to someone about it so it doesnt manifest into something more serious and more life affecting than pixels generated by a computer program.

Crown crates are a "fun" game of chance for mentally healthy people. They know how much money they can afford to lose and understand that any money they put into any virtual item is money being thrown away for a brief period of instant gratification. It is not the fault or responsibility of any company if you are not mentally healthy, have a gambling addiction, cannot afford their product, or did not get the desired item out of a game of chance that you knew was a game of chance before you bought into the game. Nor should they have to tailor their business to accommodate everyone. It is perfectly OK in life to be a "have not". We are all a have not in something.

Better idea... sell the mounts in the Crown Store for a couple thousand (2000-4000) CROWNS and skip the loot boxes!

Wise man say: Just say NO to Crown Crates.

If they did this they are assigning value to a specific item in the crate which then assigns specific value to everything in the crate and now you have tiered gambling no longer a random equal value surprise only changing due to scarcity and not evaluation.

Veeeeeery different things in the eyes of Johnny law.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

Crown Crates sell you a chance at the item you want and a chance at gem currency to eventually buy whatever non-radiant apex item you want. Because profit.

If ZOS wanted you to just be able to get the item you want, guaranteed, they wouldn't be using loot crates.

I got *** so hard this season that am ashamed of myself. For the sake of knowledge, I spent nearly $200aud and got a bear mount. Nothing else but gems and pretty dresses. I will be setting limiters on my spending per month on my card now. This has made me question a lot, I know, its my own fault, but I am ashamed. Been playing 5-6 years, i just wanted a radiant apex for once. i blame noone but myself.

Please, listen, dont get hooked on this junk. Its predatory.

I opened 30 Nightfall Crates and didn't get a single mount which is annoying as I usually get 1 mount per 15 crates.

    Same. 30 and no mount.

After like the 9th or 10th crate it seemed like I was getting almost all duplicates and it was minor stuff worth very little gems :/

Sometimes things are like an episode of the Twilight Zone. World depression before us and folks are fantasizing about throwing money away on loot crates. Eventually this downturn is going to hit our microtransactions and I'm curious how they'll respond. No doubt we'll see many just close down due to "creatively finding an end". No judgement but I think we should just wait till the slashing of prices that will eventually come. I don't doubt we'll find these crates slashed to $2 long before they reward large expenditures.

If ZOS wanted you to just be able to get the item you want, guaranteed, they wouldn't be using loot crates.

It is more complicated than that.

Honestly, I expect that they don't really care what players spend the Crown on, or even if they spend the Crowns, so long as they line up to buy Crowns.

The random nature of the loot boxes invites the "just one more try" mindset, which helps to deplete Crown stashes, which is the desired effect. This is driven by psychology commonly used in carnivals where they dangle a desired item and a chance to win it. If you play enough, you will win it. Just one more try. They can give the player a fancy Radiant Apex mount without the player fully realizing how much they might have to spend (real money) before that happens.

The thing is that, along they way, the player collects a vast amount of valueless stuff that ZOS gives them for playing the Crown Crate game. Piles of potions, scrolls, a few costumes and pets, maybe a personality, come from these loot boxes long before the mounts come. On average. They also encourage play Crown Crates by handing out Gems for duplicates, and then Gem exclusive sales, because then people have to play Crown Crates to get Gems. They have sort of built an entire valueless economy around Crown Crates, which are built around the psychology of "just one more try".

It isn't that ZOS does not want to sell Crown Crate mounts guaranteed, it is that no one would buy it if ZOS used the current Crown Store mentality of selling mounts. It is because of all of the other loot that was collected on the journey to get the mount.

ZOS could easily build packages of loot crate rewards and sell them for 21000 Crowns. They could contain a fixed and known set of items from the current Crown Crate season, with duplicates awarding Gems. This would represent an average collection of loot from the same amount of Crown Crates (50). People might actually buy them, but they would not contain any Radiant Apex mounts. This is work for ZOS, so I doubt they would be interested. People can just buy 50 Crown Crates. That already works.

If they had the decency to remove items outta the loot pool after you’ve acquired them once it wouldn’t be as bad but to get two of the same mounts when you wanted a specific one is just heart breaking.

This. I want to gem things right in the flip card phase. Especially mounts. I haven’t liked a mount design for so long.

I bought 4 crates and got the senche. I wish I could gem it.

I had to buy three of the four crate packs to get enough gems to buy the Sabre. The game gave me the Bear in the very first crate. If I hadn't just bought the Sabre with gems I'd trade you.

It also gave me the Vampire Horse. I'm never riding that thing.

Not as much as you might think, People don't really understand how rare these mounts are, on average, because the probability of getting one is a distribution. Some people will be lower (lucky) and some people will be higher (unlucky) than average. (average is ~250 crown crates if my calc is correct) Social media tends to skew the results and make the lucky people seem more common than they should be.

Its not predatory. You have gamblers remorse and want to put part of the blame on the business. A majority of players play this game every single day without ever once worrying about what is in those crates or obtaining it.

In fact ESO has one of the least predatory MT systems of any game ive played and i play A LOT of games.

No, I’m not blaming them. I chose to spend what I did, I’m remorseful for that decision because the odds were too low for me to “win” anything.
