Game Play Tutoring

rustyrimes
Hello People,
I believe it would be nice if players new to ESO were assigned a game play tutor for 30 days.
1: That way they can be taught not to make common mistakes like improving normal non-set drops.
2: Taught how to use the chat box for communicating with other players, Groups, Guilds.
3: New players would be taught the meaning of magnifying glass, and ribbon, icons instead of just selling everything to merchants for gold.
4: How to join environment guilds right away, then joining Player guilds.

As a new player (age of 63) I made all of these mistakes which cost much frustration for me. I finally learned after another player took mercy on me, and started tutoring me.
I would gladly do the same for any other new player, if ESO had an area for such to happen.

Try joining a guild aimed towards supporting new players. A number of social guilds are very welcoming. Or just ask zone chat. It won't help with everything, but some things you only learn by experience.

No offense, but no one is going to pay for tutors for every new player.

There are plenty of guilds out there that are willing to help new players. Perhaps they could add a few more filters to the guild search to make it easier to find. Filters like "new players welcome", "teaching guild", "dungeon training", etc.

You’re asking people to give up what little free time they may have. Between dealing with school and working, my me time is precious to me.

So yh @VaranisArano is right for assuming compensation for such an extensive service.

I don’t mind helping here and there but not at the cost of my play time.

    It’s a video game

    Not a another job

Though good on you, if you have the time to help people like that, Cx :)

Don't know why that has to be some kind of official service. That sort of thing should be just a standard part of the community. Frankly I think it would do everyone some good if it were, both in and out of the game.

Pretty much this. Though it is not about tutors getting paid. It is about Zos having to create a system to screen tutors and paying someone to approve players for tutoring others.

The guild system has worked wonders for many years across many games as a place for new players to discover more about the game.

If you want it free, guilds already do that.

If you want something official that has standards for the tutor and aims to match a tutor with every new player, we're getting beyond volunteer territory here in both quality and scale desired.

I know what you are talking about and think it's a good idea in general but ZOS is never gonna do that because they probably don't see the value in it.
I used to have guild that helped new players on PS4 and it was a lot of fun at first but as time went by, more and more players came that pretendet to be newbs and just wanted the equipment I crafted for them and when I did, they left shortly after. So I stopped doing that.

But you can try your luck and create a new guild just for newbies. I believe there are a lot of players out there who would appreciate it and maybe also some veterans who would like to help. ;)

Visit Dotz Gaming or Alcast's websites. Dotz is great with giving advice for pvp, and Alcast is more towards pve. Between the two, there is a lot of information that could help you getting started. Both have sections with beginner guides.

Honestly, you can just ask for help in zone chat. There are hundreds of players out there who are happy to help explain things.

When I first started the game, I had no clue what I was doing (I only tried Wow for a bit before). I got my High Elf NB archer with points spread between evenly Stamina, Magica and Health to level 14 and hit an absolute wall when I died over and over again to minotaurs in Gold Coast.

Even after watching You Tube guides I was still lost until I asked in zone if someone could help me and explain what am I even aiming for (the game was already vast in 2016). One player whispered me, grouped up with me and took me on an adventure, explaining things step by step.

Unfortunately now I can not remeber that players name but thanks to them I got so drawn into the game, that now I'm sitting with 6500 hours on the clock and CP1200 and there is still loads of content I haven't explored. I now always jump at the opportunity to help new players, even if it's just answering some questions.

So I understand what you mean about tutoring (especially for new players now) but there is no need for a system, when you already have the best community in any game out there, always happy to help

Most if not all of us made those same mistakes when we started the game. Truth is those mistakes in part makes the game fun. I know it doesn't fell like fun when you are making the mistakes but we get all kinds of threads where people admit their mistakes and most look back fondly.
You should enjoy the game and if something doesn't seem right or you get stuck you can ask for help in game or do the online search. Personally I like to do new content at least one time without any outside knowledge. Just kinda struggle through it for a while. I'm not in a hurry to get to the end.
Joining a guild really is a big help. All kinds of guilds out there that are really good at helping new players.

And just a quick heads up on asking for help in zone chat. The first response or two are often (not always) going to be some smart @$$ but it doesn't take long at all to get a real answer to your question.

Again for me all those mistakes are just part of the game and most the time the game is fun. Golding out crafted armor I forgot to trait wasn't fun when I did it and it wasn't fun the 2nd time I did it about 15 minutes later. But now I find it funny and am amazed I had to sweat finding the material to do that twice. Guild members provided me material for the third try and I got it right. Now I can provide materials to new players and not worry about cost so all is good.

New guildy: Uh, what's the fastest way to level or how do I get rich over night?

I give you my gratitude, and appreciation for this conversation thread. Though here are a few issues unresolved.

1: this is the first MMORPG I have ever played, and was totally lost as to how to play,
2: I had no clue on how to use the chat box, or even what chat areas like this could be accessed for.
3: I may have started using computers in the days of DOS, but it was always for work, not leisure.
4: Finding a person online helping me to learn, has taught me both the social interaction, and social conduct required in playing this type of game.

Now, I was just wishing for an area where I can return the kindness to others in the online community.

Probably the best way is to join a social guild that does a variety of activities. I'm right up near you in age (58). I took one course on coding in BASIC during the summer while in high school then didn't take any computer courses in college because I didn't think I would ever use one.
This isn''t my first MMO but it is the first that I really participated in group stuff. The others I quit really early into the game when it became apparent I needed to group. The first two weeks in this game were a confusing mess. Then I saw a message in zone chat from a player starting a new guild that needed members. I joined. THe guild has long since disbanded but the guild leader is on my friends list and still playing. Joining that guild helped me a lot as it finally got me started joining some group activity.
If you want to help people kind of random hanging out in the starter zones is a good place to start. When I was trying for my master fisherman achievement I would watch zone chat and answer in questions I could and go help any player that needed help with world bosses or whatever. Broke up the tedium of fishing.
A couple of times I have decided to see if I could help someone in every zone in one night. I go to a zone and goof off until someone asks for help with something. I help then move to the next zone. So far I've not got close to finishing all the zones in one night.
I've also gone from zone to zone sending the first player to correctly answer a question some new player asked 10,000 gold thanking them for helping. Some send it back some really appreciate it.
Anyway all kinds of ways you can help. Best way is have fun yourself and share that fun with others.

It would be a good start if the game had a decent tutorial. But it doesn't.

There is no way new players will learn about LA weaving for example. Mentioning Light Attacks on a loading screen does not count as a Tutorial and the game does a terrible job of explaining itself.

Let's consider the crafting introductions for example. The two NPCs that certify you for writs do explain the basics of crafting, deconstruction. Ok, that's great. But what about Traits and Research? And Sets? And the fact that you require knowledge of a certain number of Traits to craft a Set, even if you don't want that item to have that Trait? Many ESO systems are convoluted and just go unexplained.

Sometimes, the game actively misinforms players, rather than just leaving them ignorant. Like on the character creation screen, when they assign specific armor types to the classes. How would a new player know that they can be a squishy ranged firemage if they go DRAGONKNIGHT, when the game gives Light armor ONLY to Sorcs and Necros, and puts DKs in heavy??? Plus the description of the class also talks about martial arts and battle spirit or whatever.

ESO is one of the least noob-frienldy games out there.

As we have suggested, there is already an area for where the kindness of others can be returned to the community. Both through Zone when someone asks a question (unless they are trolls) and through noob friendly social guilds.

Guilds are the best place to learn. Searching online for information is also helpful and most people are familiar with Google and other search engines.
