Rings of Mara question

So on my main character I have my Ring of Mara bound to a friend, but we've gotten so out of sync that its hard to level together due to the phasing that occurs when you complete a quest. My question is, is there any way to unbind the marriage on my one character so we can bind it together on alts that we will play together at the same time. Or is there any way to get the ring to our alts?
Or are we stuck, unable to take advantage of the ring's effects any longer.
