Why are past hairstyles removed?

I was looking at pictures from hairstyles I noticed aren’t available in character creation nor are they available in crown store. Where are they? Why aren’t they available for purchase?

Need the mullet.

    Sorry, it just felt appropriate.

The hairstyles tab in the store is probably one of the most forgotten ones. In the past year, there have been two changes: last July brought the Adorable Assassin back for just over a week during the TG/DB celebration event, and the 'Standing Wave' style disappeared without notice sometime around February, with no comment from the devs on whether that was intentional or not.

This despite the fact that there have been several styles people request that haven't been seen in the store for ages, like the Heroic Poet or Casual Rascal. That's not even getting into the styles which have been seen on the PTS or on NPCs in game, as detailed on this list in the forums. That's where that mullet style is, and sad to say it's never been available to anyone but NPCs.

The store is based around FOMO in a really bad way. I get the idea of trying to get us to buy things with limited time offers, but I really have to ask how much money they're making from extra sales versus how much they're losing from things being unavailable. I know there are a few costumes that I want to get eventually, but if I saw them get a '7 DAYS LEFT' tag then I'd jump for them. If they disappear without warning (like the Standing Wave did), then the net result is that I don't spend money. And while I may not have used the Standing Wave, I did just get a character that would rock it but now I can't buy it, so I guess I don't need to buy crowns.

With the other styles though? Most people have already missed out at this point, so what's the goal of keeping them exclusive. I've seen loads of people with the monkey pet, so I know there are people who have been playing since beta (or at least had active accounts as long as the crown store's been active), but I see very few people with the hairstyles that aren't currently available, which means that if they bought them, they're not advertising them. How much money is ZOS making by those styles being completely unused and collecting dust in some USB drive on a shelf? Doubly so for the NPC styles, which people are practically begging for, and yet are not being offered.

I have a feeling that if July's showcase had "Hairstyle Pack: Short Mussed Wave, Unruly Bangs, [Dagrund's werewolf mullet], and [whatever Velsa's hair is called]" for like 2000 crowns, people would be jumping over themselves to buy them. Bonus points if they wanted to throw in another two styles like Zeira's or the Warrior Topknots or Wavy Triple Braided Updo, and then make the whole bundle for 3000 crowns - exactly the number of crowns you get from the $25 pack.

I bet that the sales of those hairstyles would sell on par with about a month's worth of 'buy this costume for these three days only' that we get in any other showcase. People are literally begging to spend money for hairstyles. And the latest interview (May 27) with Rich Lambert said they were interested...

Q: Would you think to add barbers to the game?
A: Really gone that direction, you can kind of already change your hair at will as long as you have these collectibles. We are interested into adding new Hairstyles, but we are not thinking about adding new systems in that direction.

So... why not release some of the ones we've been begging for?

Wow thanks for all the information! It’s a shame they are just letting these all be in limbo.
