Stadia will eat up your monthly Data use really fast.

I know that I said I would not invest in Stadia but curiosity got the better of me so I signed up and got ESO on Stadia free of charge with the Pro Membership. Then I started digging and found out how much Data Stadia would use. Folks to run the game in 720p it is a little over 4GB of Data per hour and what I got was 1080p using a massive 12GB of Data per hour. Those that are able to make use of the 4K technology the Data usage is skyrocketing and I found that some internet providers are dropping their customers who use this and that much Data. Just saying you need to check with your internet provider on what kinda Data plan you have because Stadia could drive your bill way up depending on what you have. Needless to say I terminated my membership and will not go back because of this issue. I don't care if I was getting 1080p resolution. The cost for me would have been staggering.

On handies or whatever okay, but if you know you are often online in games at home, you just get a provider that charges once per month or quarter year with unlimited Volume.

Yeah I know. A lot of internet providers are considering new policies for services like Stadia. I have Spectrum and I will look into what options they have. If they have one that doesn't cap Data usage I will switch to a better plan. What we have now is a bundle of internet, cable and telephone service and well if I use too much Data I incur extra charges on my monthly bill. Stadia would do that to me with my current plan.

Unfortunately, not everyone has access to packages without a fixed monthly limit. Stadia is not for you if you don't - that's for sure.

Most ISPs will take some action if you are in the Top Percentile of the Data Usage. This is known as the Top Talkers Report. Note, i work for a very large ISP.

This action may very well be to just monitor the amount of traffic on your circuit, not content, but just volume. But some may go as far as to throttle your pipe or bump you to the next data tier and a higher monthly charge.

Now, with Netflix, Hulu, Prime etc Streaming these days, getting into that top talkers report is harder than 10 years ago. I know I have downloaded over 500 GB one month and my ISP did not even blink.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Not that I would touch Stadia with a hundred foot pole to begin with, but my only available connection other than dialup is satellite - and my monthly data limit is 20 GB with a 50 GB bonus zone from 2am - 8am. It would be lovely if everyone had unlimited data - but rural US for sure does not. So I closely monitor my usage, and when people from away sit outside our fence trying to break into my system, my husband goes out and tells them to beat it (not that they could figure out my passphrase anyway).

I have just found that Spectrum now offers plans that don't cap Data. I have had my current service for a long time and it caps at 200GB per month. When we get close we get a warning call from them about it. I will be looking into these better plans to find one that fits my budget. As for Stadia I don't think I will go back. It's just another real life cost on top of what I already have.

Any more intentional bashing of me from another player and I will have ZOS close this thread. There is no need for this kinda thing to be going on on a thread that was just meant for information. I never blamed ZOS or Stadia/google for the issue. That much Data use is new to me because I have never streamed anything much less a game. I learned something new that maybe wasn't new. No need to knock me down for it.

And not everywhere (even/especially in the US) has access to Awesome Internet For Cheap. And there's always stories about ISPs selling "unlimited" service and then throttling people when they show just how much bandwidth they can suck up in a month.

You would be surprised. Rural US, and not even that rural, still doesn't have great access. Some places do, some don't, and some have zero competition creating zone monopolies with no options for residents to choose from.

In my area until just this past year the only option for internet was satellite or a data capped service through phone lines. And I live less than an hour away from metro Atlanta, GA. I now have an unlimited service that offers just 10-15mbps. Plenty for ESO and streaming for just myself, and a serious improvement on the 3mbps I used to get at my old house less than 30 minutes away from where I live now.

Not everyone has access to good internet.

Now that I've got decent internet I just need to get Amazon/UPS/FedEX to deliver to me... I miss buying stuff on Amazon...

Where I live, Amazon only uses USPS for delivery, since about a year ago now. It's okay, but because this is the back of beyond, "free 2 day" with Prime is generally 3 or 4 days.

Stadia even recommends NOT using the stream system if your on a limit. The fact you think it will NOT use it up amazes me. Your basicly streaming an entire console/pc.

I'm glad this thread is here because I didn't know about this.
I really like Stadias Game performance, even though its 30 fps but the game play is better then what I typically have. But if it has a cost like taht then well I got to be wary of that. That kinda worries me and well I need to be careful on something like this after seeing this thread I felt best to close Stadia and relaunch through steam.

Any user with satellite WILL have a pretty stringent cap. I know I'm not the only one on satband.... though like me, most on sat will be saying "no" to Stadia.

Friend of mine tried it out on HughesNet (my provider) in back-of-beyond Arkansas. It wasn't good. And it didn't even come close to "optimal" or "affordable". Her 20 GB of data (same as I have) tanked to nothing in just a couple of hours. So she's on bonus zone for the rest of her billing period. Or will have to buy 3 GB of data for $25 US....

Ugh - I would tank on that with normal internet usage. I am still researching it and what we have. Our service is so old. We've had it for I don't know maybe 10 years. Might be time to give Spectrum a phone call.

I would consider buying the game for dirt cheap on Stadia to connect on a laptop when on vacation and away from my desktop. I'd rather not install on my work laptop when away and our Surface Pro 3 has always stuggled. It would be nice to be able to briefly connect over hotel wifi.

I doubt I would ever subscribe to Stadia.

you must live in a large city or something like that. in majority of US, you are doing great if you have high speed internet available at all that is not satellite.

I'm lucky enough to have a choice between horribly outdated slower DLC and okish Cable. lucky because I have a choice at all. unlimited data is NOT an option here. as it is I'm already paying $110 to have a datacap of terrabite and decent upload/download speeds

I'm using Stadia non-pro because it doesn't actually stream at 4K as promised and claiming games in Pro locks you out of those games when you stop paying for the subscription. I found it better to just stay off their subscription as the incentives don't outweigh the problems caused when it lapses. As for my connection, $65 a month for 1000 Mbps Up/Down speed, no data caps.
