Are solo builds still viable in groups?

So, I’m currently running the Alcast group build for stamina Necro. It occurred to me that other than grinding for the necessary gear for build and the occasional trial I don’t do much group content.

So, I’m considering switching the build to more of a solo route. Will this be a a negative impact when I do choose to play in groups? Most Hardcore content I’ll probably do is normal trials.

A solo build will be just fine for normal dungeons and trials, and even for non-dlc vet dungeons. For vet trials and the harder vet dungeons you’ll want to optimize for group gameplay, but for lower difficulty you can pretty much do whatever you want.

yeah works fine you could also just run 2 builds and switch out certain gear pieces/items depending on the content ur doing.
you dont have to stick with the same gear forever..

Solo build will definetly mean less dps however it'll nearly guarantee you succeeding even tho it might take longer, sometimes you even end up dragging ur entire group because they were unprepared while you are prepared to survive.

Just dont bring it to vet trials you'd just be annoying the entire group cause the lack of dps.

I run a solo build for vet everything i just cant trust the group finder to find me a tank , healer or dps that doesn't know what a tank healer or dps does.... or the usual runs around in heavy armor and shield doesn't own a taunt... so i run a high damage high sustain solo stam sorc pretty much just eats damage dishes it out and self heals regardless of the rest of the team licking windows or backpack fishing mid boss fight.

Hmm so could you explain where the loss of DPS comes from between a group build to a solo?

Generally speaking... When I solo build, I never run glass cannons. There ain't no one around to heal me if I get into trouble. If I have a healer to keep my fragile highness alive, I can devote more to DPS.

When you build for solo play, you need to consider how to set up your character so they can do everything they need to stay alive and do sufficient damage. That means building for resource sustain, damage mitigation and self buffing / enemy debuffing. The more you need to be able to do, the less well you tend to be able to focus and any specific thing extremely well.

When you build for group play, you count on other members of the group being able to fill holes in your setup, allowing you to focus just on what you really need: maximum damage output with whatever the minimal level of resource sustain and survivability is that you can get away with.

Also, often times, gear and skills that help you perform better in a solo situation end up providing a redundant buff or enemy debuff already provided by another member of the group better suited to do so.

For the most part my solo 'builds' are the same as my group builds in terms of gear, so really it just comes down to swapping out abilities. If you are on PC the addon Dressing Room has been updated for Greymoor so you can change abilities (and gear if you want) with the push of a button (out of combat though).

But even as a magicka character in light armor I really only need to slot a damage shield and maybe some sort of class heal and I'm good for most solo content, even most world bosses pre-Summerset.

I don't know of any solo content that would require actually changing CP, attributes, or mundus stones. If I wanted to play stamina in solo and magicka in group or something I'd just roll another character. :p

Solo builds are definitely viable. Don't expect to beat high scores, but you should be able to complete content. A lot of mechanics are one shots, and players just need to memorize/anticipate them. Practice (with build and content) makes perfect.
