Nightfall Crates are very disappointing

The same bat pet 4 times with a slightly different color. The Frosthaunt skin that is a slightly darker version of the already free ingame for years now Crystalfrost skin. 3 plain normal looking mounts in the legendary rewards. The Greymoor Tapestry, Harrowstorm thumbnail looked kind of neat but the actual item looks like someone turned down the color saturation by 70%. Only the Radiant Apex mounts even look special this crate season but the drop rate on those are too small to even care about trying for.

There is a reason everything is bland apart from the Radiant apex mounts. o:)

Disappointing is a subjective thing. Imo, this season had some nice stuff.
    • They finally added a new hairstyle
    • There was a new dance emote
    • Skyrim-themed costumes so people who didn't preorder Greymoor can get some too
    • The fountain furnishing looks very special with the animated bats
    • The bat pets are great
That said, I do agree that the skins were a cheap copy-paste. And it would have been nicer to have the hair, emote, costumes and furniture in the Crown Store directly than gated behind the gambling crates. And yeah, most things are a hard pass for me too, not really into the whole half-cadaverous vampire aesthetic. But I'm sure many people will totally love items that we hate. Tastes differ, and that's all right.

I love the bats and spider, but I already have bats and spiders and I'm not sure I want to spend for a different color.

I like the bardic markings but am disappointed that the face is only on the right side, which is covered by my character's default hairstyle.

I like the new hair but it does not reflect my character's hair color.

Really? What reason would that be?

It makes a huge amount more sense to make all of the lower level items in crates also desirable if ZOS actually wants to sell more crates because people who are contemplating buying crates will figure whether they get a fancy mount or not they will still get some cool stuff they like.

Furthermore if you want 15 items in the lower tier crate items and get 5/15 in your first 15 crate purchase you are more likely to buy again as you still have 10 lower tier items you desire. Once people don't want lower tier crate items anymore they rarely buy crates to chase only for a mount.

Making everything in a crate crap on purpose except apex mounts would be dumb from a purely business standpoint, and everyone here seems to be on the same page that these crates are pure business to ZOS.

I found them highly disappointing on a far less subjective metric: Most of the content in the Nightfall crates are extremely low effort to produce, noticeably lower effort than previous crates. Also the Epic/Superior tiers are extremely lacking in the kind of quality that those tiers usually have, while the Legendary rewards feel more heavily stacked than usual.

It is important to remember when you throw down $50 (or more) to get a Legendary/Apex/Radiant Apex item, NONE of those items are worth what you're putting in. Those lower tier items - the Superior and Epic things - are what you're mostly getting, and they bridge the value gap between what you put in, and what you ultimately spend your crown gems on. Without a reasonable bridge between those two marks, you're getting scammed.

I want to express some very particular disappointment with the new line of hats. They're nice hats. Shame they're ruined by removing your hair.

Yeah I gotta say I was pretty disappointed in them, and I was actually looking forward to them originally because I love vampire/spooky monster stuff. There's too many recolored items, the hats all make you bald, and a lot of the items just seem to be of lower quality than usual. Just got the new hair and the sphynx cat with gems because these aren't really worth buying unless I decide to buy crowns for gold sometime.

Totally agree, @Lilly_Elessa ... there was nothing in the Epic tier that I wanted to buy even though it's only 40 gems per.

Another indicator that this quarter's Crates are underwhelming is the Crown exchange rate ... which at the moment is around 150-175 gold per Crown on PC NA. Back at the beginning of Gloomspore it was 225-250 gold per Crown.

The majority of people that have commented on social media are looking to attain the Radiant Apex mounts, hence the many forms of advertisement from ZOS showing those mounts compared to others.

It's a very sneaky form of gambling..

Buy 15 crates, don't get the item that you want.. Leave it for a few hours.. go back and buy another 15 crates thinking you will get that item. Same as you would with an online gambling account, hence the spend limits on them now in some countries.

Rinse, repeat until you've spent £500 for a coloured mount on a game.

I feel the same. I really like the 'year of the vampire' theme they have going, plus Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 comes out this year (not sure when, delayed because of working from home/covid 19 reasons) Got around to playing Vampyr while I waited for Greymoor. I even pre-ordered the Greymoor chapter, something I haven't done for a video game in a long time since I was burned a few times. Enjoyed the story and the reworked vampire skill line very much.

I feel like I am the target audience for a vampire/monster themed crown crate and honestly nothing in the pack seemed worth buying crates for. That vampire fountain, maybe, but since I'm sitting on 700 gems already I don't even need to buy a crate to get it, I'll just pay for it in gems. Plus the fountain from the as yet to be released Furnishing Pack: Vampiric Libations seems to look so much better.

This whole crate season seems very low effort.

idk, I find all crates disappointing. While I realize Zos makes bank off them I have no interest in random occurrences that cost that much money.

Tame lightning emote should not cost 100 gems, it only lasts 4 seconds , what a ripoff.

Makes sense for you and me may be or even the majority of readers. Which would make them buy and extra $5 - $10 in crates? Maybe even $100? There are people who drop stacks, racks, buckets, gnotes, thousands on the crown store.

The whale is the reason the radiant apex exists or the 'regular' fish wouldn't even try for it. Its a system marketed at the 1% of the buyers to milk the most per whale they can.

    Ezpz.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I learnt my lesson long ago - only buy crates where you like and want all the apex mounts.

Which, in my case, is very few of them.

Nothing worse than winning apex mounts you will never use.

The hairstyle and some of the tatts are the only things I like... won't say no to one of runed mounts though (cursed?).
